Hey Joey, Cheng here. The reason I sent you signed copy is because I love Bugs of Phonon so much that I bought 4 copies and signed all of them lol. Hope you will like my CDs! Also, thanks for sharing your music taste with us, your taste is amazing, made me discover a lot of bangers bands! Last but not least, let’s keep on rockin 🤘🤘
I like how Joey is shifting from The Anime Man to The Music Man with some anime sprinkled in, but I'm sure it's nothing to complain at because you can tell he's passionate about his music
Wow, that Takanaka Masayoshi album is sick! He along with Casiopea reinvented music. If it weren't for them, there would be no Nintendo music for example. Great gift Joseph, this person really love you ❤️
Some of my staple recommendations for citypop/ 70s and 80s Japanese music: Kiyotaka Sugiyama, Omega Tribe (that includes 1986 Omega Tribe and Carlos Toshiki & Omega Tribe), Shinji Tanimura, Anzen Chitai, Koji Tamaki, Akira Terao, Fumiya Fujii, Alice (Shinji Tanimura's old band), Kei Ishiguro, and Shizuka Kudo. I hope someone readin this could use those recs! They're some of my favourites.
@@galaxy_kitten95 I mean, my answer is "everyone", but that's probably not the answer you're looking for. My personl fave is Shinji Tanimura, but for a true citypop sound, I'd probably go with Kiyotaka Sugiyama, or any of the Omega Tribe bands.
It's unfortunate that Joey doesn't have an Anilist account so we know what he's already watched/read, like how he has with his record collection. Besides that it'll be fun to see what he gets next and how long this goes on before Joey goes insane and stops this. 🤣
@@marlonnassajpoor3560 Yeah, I used to keep up with it as well, but he stopped posting on it 4 years or so ago because it was hard to track. So, I was suprised to hear he did a music version out of nowhere. 🤣 Also, I use Anilist because MAL doesn't track, Manhwa, Manhua, Webtoons, and Pornhwa, so I had to switch over to that. I hope he makes One again, and maybe even hire someone to get his new lists up to date so he can just add: Read, Completed, or Dropped, unlike me where I put all the scores and everything else in. It could be a good thing for Mail Time.
@@potsuaye69 Oh, that's good to know. I've been tracking everything I've watched or read since 2015, so I'll have to check that out. Do you have an Anilist?
Your collection on Discogs still isn't viewable 😉 Go to settings, privacy and add a tick to "allow others to browse my collection". If you want to personalize your collection fields, check out the collection section in the settings: there you can add a bunch of fields with either text or dropdown values.. I use it to track the stores, date, prices and specials about my vinyls (e.g. signed) 👍
You should make a video about what you think about some of the albums you get. I really think it would be cool to get some of your reactions and thoughts on them.
All these albums kinda makes me wanna see a DJ Jelly channel with Joey just talking about a band, a song or music in general. We have a tv program here around new years eve where a guy just picks a song and dives into the story behind it, talks about the origin story, find funny trivia and just talk about interesting facts of that song and artist.
Hope you enjoy the Takanaka album Joey! One of my favorites and when I didn’t see it in the original video I had to send it over. It might not be exactly what you’re expecting, more of a concept album built around the story of the rainbow goblins. Ends up being a really cool jazz / psych rock fusion album that shows off Takanaka’s technical skill, creativity, and style. Would love to know what you think after you give it a spin or two!
Yeah it is not easy, but some Discogs sellers ship from Japan. Once in a while there is a cheap shipping option without tracking which is how I got my copy. Many of the Japanese copies are mint too which is a nice surprise! Keep an eye out there! It was easier to send to Joey with him in Japan than it was to get it myself tbf lol
Having this video on in the background while working and having a game called "Mail Time" in your work rosta was a very surreal moment hearing Joey sing Mail Time 🤣
Warning to everyone to please be careful with gifts from PO boxes; there have been cases of people trying to send in small low powered GPS tracking devices. Please do your due diligence before hauling items back to any private area that you'd rather not risk being exposed. It sucks to be suspicious of people's goodwill, but unfortunately, it's best to be safe.
Hey Joey, great video! I checked out albums that were sent to you. They are pretteh rad damn. Only thing is, that the discogs link does not work, maybe it's just for me idk
Not super familiar with Shakatak but the title track of that album is immaculate,a friend showed it to me and I thought it was brilliant, definitely a great thing to have
Shakatak are one of my favourite bands, having celebrated 42 years in the music business, they are quite popular on the Japanese jazz scene and were playing live in Japan just a few weeks ago. 👍
Hey Joey, check out the Ukrainian band White Ward. They're a Post Black Metal band that fuses Black Metal, Post Rock and Jazz. Their last album False Light is amazing.
Hahaha. Joey says in a trash taste episode, that he doesnt really like suprise gifts ( for understandable reasons). After that makes episodes about gifts ...
He sounds like The Anime Man. He looks like The Anime Man. He smells like The Anime Man. Guys, I think this man is the best cosplayer for The Anime Man

Hiya Joey, I heard you were looking for some city pop recommendations. (Whoever sent Masayohsi Takanaka, you are definitely a goat because Takanaka-san is by far one of the best city pop guitarists for me at least) A couple of albums i'd totally recommend for you is "Insatiable High" and one of the best tracks IMO is titled "sexy dance," and another album titled Seychelles (best track is "Oh! Tengo Suerte" Imo). Another slew of city pop artists i'd recommend is Miki Matsubara(kinda obv for some people, also fav track from her is titled "WASH"), Anri(Timefly! is definitely one of the holy grails of city pop albums imo), Toshiki Kadomatsu(Best album imo is "Sea is a Lady"), Casiopeia(if you haven't heard of them, they are a jazz fusion band but with a huge city pop sound, best album to start with them is "mint jams(personal preference)" or their self titled album "Casiopeia"), Himiko Kikuchi("Flying Beagle" is a good album from her), Tatsuro Yamashita(fun fact, he's the husband of the composer of plastic love, and the album you should start with him is titled "Ride on Time"), and Omega Tribe("Never ending summer" album). Aside from that, I hope at least some of these recommendations are somewhat new for you Joey and hope ya have fun listening to them.
Damn you got good taste. I recommend Naoko Gushima. She's pretty underrated since she's in the 90s era citypop. Most people remember the 70s and 80s city pop and not the 90s, Naoko Gushima's music always calms me down. Its not upbeat but its not sad either. Its really calming and chill with the minimal instruments and her breathy voice. I recommend songs like Candy, Dear My DJ, No No No and Tell Me Oh Mama.
Actually I bet it’s /super/ easy for you to find an excellent old CD player for very little out there! Oh also I don’t know if anybody mentioned it but I don’t think the discogs collection is shared rn, you’d have to make it public under settings > privacy (or do you only make it public on special occasions...?)

Man, this feels like classic UA-cam all over again, back when opening fan mail was "the craze". Feels comfy and nostalgic.
Dude I LOVE takanaka. The rainbow goblins is probably my most listened album ever
I was surprised joey hadn't heard of him because in the states he's one of the most popular Japanese jazz artists.
Right?!
The algorithm sent us the skydiving happy man and we never looked back
Yeah I totally agree, love Takanaka and am stoked for Joey to give it a listen!
*waiting for someone to send him a complete Dr Jelly manga that explains his origin and backstory*
I wish I had the skill to do just that. Manga Artists - you heard the man, get on it!

rainbow goblins is such a good album
Genuinely surprised that Joey ain't aware of Takanaka, but an absolute best feeling though
Yeah I thought so too
Guys. Drop you bets.

I'd say like 2 months. When hells paradise drops he make a vid about it🗿🍷

You should call this segment “the anime mail” (because it’s by the anime male)
The only name I recognize from Shakatak is Bill Sharpe because he did a single (and more?) w/ Gary Numan.
Masayoshi Takanaka has some very nice music. Only started listening to his music earlier this year but it is such a vibe.
Blue lagoon is goated
So good
"Here's the mail, it never fails, it makes me wanna wag my tail, when it comes I wanna wail, MAIL!!!"
It’s time for the “It’s Mail Time” remix no one asked for
