Since I have been following you through the years I keep a spiral bound 4 x 6 index card book on the kitchen table and it’s my garden diary , 1 new one for each season. I use it to take notes from your row by row show as well as UA-cam videos and then before I go to bed at night I write down exactly what I did in the garden that day. Travis got me started with that and I’m so glad for it! Like you I’m getting older so things keep slipping out of my memory! My 2022/2023 fall garden note book just got started tonight with this show.
I’ve been growing a little garden for years, yet I never heard of growing fall vegetables until this year. I thought once my growing summer season was over I never planted anything after that, so I’m excited to hear what people plant for fall.
I am trying to micro manage my garden now. It is hard! My wife and I tried 5 acres. We are down to 5000 square feet. I have been gardening my whole life, since I can remember!. Start small and see what works. We are reworking our gardens. Our pantry is full, but we don't know everything yet. Keep doing what you do, I watch garden channels because I think other people have the same problems I have. Raising your own food is not an easy thing! Proverbs tells us that a man too lazy to plow shall not eat. Mathew tells us that God feeds the fowls of the air., and that foxes have dens and the birds of the air have nests. Sadly, the son of God had no place to rest his head. Keep teaching people to eat.
The one reason everyone should try to grow vegetables is that it is definitely not easy. You appreciate so much what you get when you sort through all the birthing pains each year! In the end, treat it like an ever changing learning experience and focus on your successes along the way!
Miss Hoss, the fabric called tulle IS the Anwser for bird protection! They hate it on their feet and since using it I’ve not lost a berry or fig ! You can get bulk rolls on eBay.
Great show, guys. Zone 6. I have already planted Jade beans, got cucumber, squash, onion, and zinnia seeds started in trays. All the rain we’ve had has caused tomato and cucumber plants to suffer. I’m hoping they’ll hang in there long enough to ripen the fruit. Will be sowing turnip, mustard, collards as soon as tomatoes come out. Old goat is sitting behind the orange watering can, snacking on a cherry tomato.
Greg, I don’t know if I missed it somehow or if you’ve never done one but I would love to see you do a whole show on growing tomatillos from seedling to harvest this is my third year trying to grow those things and I just don’t have any success at all. It’s very difficult to find good information on how to grow them. I’m in your zone here in Panama City Fl. So if your having good success I’d love to hear about it
@@gardeningwithhoss That salsa Verde that your wife made is an acquired taste but once you acquire it it’s absolutely worth it! Try taking some chicken thighs in your slow cooker putting a bottle of that salsa over the top and cook it for 6 to 8 hours and then make tacos out of it. It is absolutely delicious that way! My son roasts his tomatillos on the barbecue before he makes Verde it adds a nice smoky flavor. He’s the one I’m trying to grow those for. It’s the only plant in the garden so far that has me beat!
Old goat is behind the orange watering can. I am in 6b Southwest KS. My fall garden will have cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, lettuce and first year growing collards.
I am learning Fava beans. As a fall / winter growing, harvest in early spring. (someday I will get more than the animals raiding the garden take) Zone 7 / central Oklahoma
Gregg, I remember when you started selling a few tools online. Congrats on all the new videos and subscribers :) I’m a few hrs north of you guys and appreciated that you were marketing better quality tools.
Starting my seeds for my Fall garden this weekend. Zone 7. Love me some collard greens! I see that old goat hiding under some tomatoes near the orange watering can.

I live in North Carolina ( Davie County ) Zone 7a . I planted 6 - 60' rows of Ambrosia Sweet corn , 7-60' rows of October Beans and 1-60' row of Blue Lake Bush the 13th of July . They were already sprouting by the 19th 😊🙏🙏
Great show, I took notes 😄 I'm excited about adding brussel sprouts to the list for the first time this fall. Old Goat is behind the spout of the watering can.
I'm tryin'! Sowed two cucumber varirties that I just bought from you. Also put in a short row of fall carrots, which might be early, and a gallon pot of leeks to transplant later.

Love the Row by Row show, have my cover crop seeds from Hoss. Finally saw the old goat hiding behind the water sprinkler can surrounded by cherries or cherry tomatoes. Keep up the good work
I plan to plant some beets, collards sweet potatoes, and russet potatoes already in the ground. Hoping the underground critters do not eat them. Old goat is above Greg's head on the 1st shelf from the top between the orange watering can and the small bucket behind the small red tomatoes??? Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

Hello from Jacksonville, Florida! Another GREAT video! I liked your suggestions for seeds to start for the fall garden in raised beds. Think I will give a few a try! Great show, as always! I see that Old Goat! I ain't even playing anymore but can't help but look for that rascal! German White is a hardneck garlic, isn't it? OMG! YES, I need to do a clean up and start "chopping and dropping." Old Goat hanging out behind the orange watering can. 8b Texas. Thank you for the sound advice.
zone 7b central AL, I have a garden in a suburban setting, which has its challenges, primarily limited space and some shade. But I have discovered recently that I can grow lettuce nearly year round. I currently have some nice Muir lettuce planted in the corner that gets afternoon shade. I can't believe it is working. Lettuce in the deep south in August?
I'm in zone 7. My garden is just really taking off. Can't even think of fall garden. Making pickles, tomatoes finally ripening up enough to can. So far my planting plans for fall are on track with your recommendations. I'm going to give brussel sprouts a try this year for something different. Now if the weather will cooperate a little. Also I did start keeping notes on my PC this year so I will have something to reference later. As to summer squash, I tried Smooth Criminal this year and it has done fabulous. No disease so far (still hanging on from spring in zone 8A) and no pests so far which is unusual for us. Probably twice the number of fruit as other varieties I've grown. You can also stake it and it will grow straight up with no problems. The old goat is on the 3rd shelf behind Greg and behind the orange watering can and small tomato bunch.
What is difficult, if you go by growing zones... I am in the same zone as you, but my first frost date is actually... usually... next year... We get cold, but don't freeze until February. I am also in the long day onion zone. When we start getting cold is never easy to figure out, so half the time, I plant stuff, but it gets cold, and stuff never has a chance to grow full out, before it gets too cold to grow... On the other side, I plant stuff in spring, but we never know when the warmth will come.. Then it is just a heat wave, right after the cold.. Can be 60 degrees one day, and 90 the next... So all the brassicas go to seed. I am looking for veggies that can handle the short heat waves and short cold waves... My tomatoes and peppers are barely starting to produce this year..

Oh no! I started my onion seeds last week, based on suggestion from someone else. You're suggesting Sept 1-15th. Should I start another batch then in case the first don't make it? I've only used about half of the seeds so far. I'm zone 8 and started Red Creole and Texas Early White.
Chinese cabbage red and purple cabbages, turnips, purples cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, cilantro, parsley, kale collards, carrots, parsnips, radishes garlic onions, bok choy, red lettuce little gems lettuce green beans and no bugs .cover some of it up with cover cloths you have food all winter to spring.

Old goat is on the shelf behind Mr Hoss that has the orange water can and the old goat is standing behind the plastic orange water can spout and hand full of grape cherry tomatoes
Correct, glad you joined us tonight
Hey Mr. Hoss, those figs look amazing! What kind are they? I would love to have some of those plants .
Not sure but one of the LSU varieties.
Sounds great David, glad you joined us tonight
Old goat by the orange water jug behind the grape tomatoes
correct, thanks

You didn’t cover what kind of carrots are good for zone 9. Are you doing it next week?
In a few weeks. We would recommend the Olympus or if you have rocky/clay soil the Hercules

Oh no! I started my onion seeds last week, based on suggestion from someone else. You're suggesting Sept 1-15th. Should I start another batch then in case the first don't make it? I've only used about half of the seeds so far. I'm zone 8 and started Red Creole and Texas Early White.
You should
Chinese cabbage red and purple cabbages, turnips, purples cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, cilantro, parsley, kale collards, carrots, parsnips, radishes garlic onions, bok choy, red lettuce little gems lettuce green beans and no bugs .cover some of it up with cover cloths you have food all winter to spring.
Sounds great!
