The Airbus a380 is simultaneously a miraculous airliner and an absolute dud. It’s certainly impressive - as the world’s largest commercial jet, it carries over 500 passengers with ease in a unique double-decker configuration. But at the same time, most airlines that own the jet have bemoaned its unreliability and suspect operating economics.
However, there is one airline has become synonymous with the a380 and has consistently sung its praises. That airline is Emirates, the flag carrier for a small middle east country that’s seen a meteoric rise to become a global juggernaut. It is by far and away the largest operator of the a380, and it’s widely believed that it’s the only airline to consistently turn a profit using the jet. But what exactly is Emirates doing differently that ensures its a380s are an asset, rather than a liability? Let me explain…
If you learned something new today, leave a like and subscribe to keep learning. And, until I see you again, don't forget to look up!
I've flown the A380 in economy several times and I can tell you it is definitely the most comfortable and quietest aircraft to fly on in economy by a big margin.
I know right
Absolute best and most comfortable SUPER long haul aircraft MEL to LAX/JFK and MEL TO LHR. Economy seats were 2 inches wider and more comfortable for 14 hours than 787.
100%.
i totally agree, it is the BEST economy experience in flying.
I prefer 777-300
Flew on Emirates A380, right after connecting with Ryanair's 737. The difference was... quite big.
The reason was: Ryanair doesn't have showers ;-)
@Tediuki Suzuki Ryan Air doesnt even land their planes, they just execute a controlled crash...
@@reconx86 thats the definition of a landing though....
Guys after the controlled landing /crash, the system says ANOTHER RYANAIR LANDS ON TIME... True is 30mins LATE LEAVING 😭😭😭😭😭
In one day, flew first on Ryanair 737. Shit as usual. Then, iberia a321 which was a waaay better, and finally Emirates a380 which was the best by far
The Emirates A380‘s economy is like first class compared to budget airline‘s economy classes.
so agree!!
No!
Spot on observation!
I dunno maybe if you compare to tiny planes on short routes, but much less gap in comfort when compared to other long haul planes of half decent airline. I've flown it 6 times & its just kinda ok? Less noise was only standout & Emirates service (but that doesn't count). Also for some reason I've experienced the most turbulence on A380s sometimes rather rough which was odd. On the whole good, but nowhere near even business class.
Emirates will be holding onto their a380s for a long time, good news for me, i really wanna fly on an a380 before its retired
Me too! But the one in my country retired
me 2 me 2
Oh you want to fly on one... I want to fly one
They are amazing, I’ve been on them, they will stay tell 2030 or 2040
@@adnaanjaunnoo exactly, me too
The Emirates A380 Economy class feels like any other airlines business class. Also compared to other airlines A380s the luxury inside the plane for economy is impressive 🙏🙌
Maybe... you compared too far. Not even budget airlines business is better than this.
*Cough* Lufthansa A320 business class
The Emirates economy product feels like every other airline's economy.
I've flown Emirates A340, A380 and 777 and can assure you it's the same as every other airline.
In fact, Emirates were one of the first airlines to reconfigure their 777s to an awful 10 abreast seating arrangement. At the time most had a 9 abreast layout.
An eonomy seat is an economy seat regarless of who you fly (i.e. cramped and shit on long flights). However Emirates economy soft product is way better than most.
I had my first ever long haul flight on an A380 from Frankfurt to New York on Lufthansa. The plane is amazing, I have since flown many other widebodies but none of them offer the same passenger comfort as the A380 in my opinion
True, I did flights from Abu Dhabi to Sydney roundtrip a few times with 380, and 777. I need to admit 380 was much better experience.
I last flew long haul in 2014 and I still remember how much quieter the A380 was over the 777-300ER
@@77l96 I do need to travel on the 787 or A350 so that I can compare. I am amazed at how far engine technology progressed from the early 90s to the early 2000s.
Peter Charles 787’s are soo quiet. I flew from Amsterdam to Toronto with a 787 and it barely made noise, it was even quieter than my A350 flight from Detroit to Amsterdam.
Agreed.
Having flown on both the A380 and the 787 a couple of times I was really shocked at how noisy the 787 was. The windows were also really annoying, in bright sunlight they don't block out the light enough for me to sleep easily. I suspect anyone comparing the two and finding the noise levels similar is comparing different positions in the plane, the front is always considerably quieter so the front of a 787 might closely compare with the back of an A380. Studies into the two aircraft found the 787 to be around 6dB louder on average, which actually equates to being perceived as over 25% louder.
I would rather hear the engines roar than not hearing them at all. In my opinion, the L-1011 was the loudest. There is something so relaxing about the sound of the engines.
A380 is the reason i fly with Emirates. They are simply the best and comfortable planes around.
The Emirates A380 is the most comfortable jet I've ever flown on.
Vincent Koay astounded how quiet and smooth it was. Flew Emirates JFK-MXP and Singapore FRA-JFK on the a380 for a European vacation with my mom and you could barely hear the engines as we could sit in the very front of the cabin while still being in economy. My mom didn’t even know we took off it was so smooth and quiet I can not reiterate it enough. Tbf the 737 MAX is the most comfortable plane I’ve ever flown on.....so there’s that.
787
A380, the comfortable and safest
I don't disagree. I've only flown on it twice (DC to Dubai, Dubai to DC) and it was one of the most pleasant long hauls I've ever had.
I agree, it is the most comfortable one
Airbus: Nah we stop production
AirFrance: Nah this is a bad plane. We are retiring it.
Emirates: I'l take twice your entire stock.
AF is the worst airliner, completely incompetent. I feel bad for KLM.
@@hodb3906 There's some truth to that statement.
Christopher Mangels nope. No aircraft is in good hands with AF. They have a lazy attitude. KLM feels this and is even planning to ditch these guys.
@@hodb3906 I just remember 5 hours without cabin service on my last trip from BKK to CDG... AF? Never again.
Christopher Mangels they have no standards and no care. I’ve flown them once. In a 777. Never ever going to happen. And when it comes to the a380 makes them equally lost. Instead of a potential hub to hub. Nope. They just work with fixed seasonal routes. Like I said, I feel bad for KLM. AF needs to rework their attitudes. And they never should have purchased a380’s in the first place.
Coby: In 2019 Emirates saw a load factor of just 77%. In layman's terms this means that any given emirates flight was only 77% full on average
the laymen: ooooh, now we get it.
I’ve flown the A380 on Air France 3 times and I absolutely love it. It’s quiet, spacious, and just a beautiful plane
>A380
>Beautiful
Bruh. . .
I’ve flown on four separate Emirates flights on A380s. An incredible experience each time. Two from JFK to Milan, and two from Milan to JFK. The experience is second to none.
I've flown Emirates 380 business class multiple times and it's just quieter and more comfortable than any other single deckers. in my opinion, it's Even better than their new 777 300ERs even though, they have the new business class product with better seats and bigger screens but so far no planes beat 380 regarding noise.
I've heard its windows are quite a bit smaller though, no?
@@cobyexplanes it might be a bit smaller than the new generation jets like the 787 and 350 but it feels about the same size as the ones on their 777s. and also with their signature wood trimmings pattern around the windows as well as having like three windows to yourself really helps
Basically they use the same strategy as budget airlines.... just with A380
I’ve flown on Emirates A380s several times and the service, seating and food aboard is nothing like on budget airlines, so I don’t understand your reasoning
@@fatwombat1 Emirates, just like budget airlines, invest mainly into one type of aircraft, thus reducing maintenance and training costs
@@fatwombat1 Did you even watch the video?
@@fatwombat1 Budget airlines buy a shitton of a single aircraft because it reduces cost, for reasons explained in the video, and Emirates adopted a similar strategy for the same reasons.

Hey Coby, I’m from Dubai and Emirates is my main airline that I fly on, I’ve been on many a380’s, around 20, they are very comfortable and spacious, you must try to go on one🔥
To my utter delight, I have flown on this plane on quite a number of occasions , I absolutely adore it ... when I look at it I can’t help thinking what I feel is somewhat similar to what people experienced when they stared at the Titanic ... and thank goodness the A380’s safety record is quite a bit better, practically flawless : ) Thank you for the video , very informative and well crafted
I have flown the A380 with Emirates from FRA to DXB and it was amazing. Nice cabin and really smooth flight.
Have flown in Emirates a380 in every class many man times as I live in Dubai. First class is awesome, having a shower an hour before landing is super refreshing!
Yes I flew Singapore Airlines SFO to NRT Japan. Its freaking amazing. The best flying experience I ever had. Great Food, service, great seats, full computer/movie entertainment. Dude, you have an Airplane channel, what are you waiting for?!!! Get an A380 Ticket ASAP!
I’ve flown the A350, A380, 787 and newer 777’s. Both airbus models offer a superior comfort and and more spacious cabin over the Boeing competitors IMO. The A350 Beats the A380 because of its absolutely revolutionary cabin air pressure system, which is possible due to the aircraft’s composite construction. Hope to fly the A380 again before its retirement though. It’s quite the experience for any aviation enthusiast.
I agree, the 787 wasn't very comfortable or spacious
Idk about 380, but 9 seat 777’s will be more spacious than the 350. Also doesn’t the 787 offer higher cabin pressure than the 350 (tho it is 12 cm narrower)
I flew on the Emirates A380 twice and now I totally in love with them. I love that plane and that airline. I highly recommend flying on it. I promise you, it'll be a trip, flight, plane, and airline you'll never forget. I honestly get so upset when people say or broadcast negativity about the A380. I know it seems and sounds weird, but I promise you'll understand why.
Completely agree. I have the same experience
@@beautyparadise4832 lololol. Those A380s have a huge affect on people. Lolol
@@lamuelvictorjr3402 Yes, I agree :D
I flew the Etihad A380 a year ago. It was huge, comfortable, and quiet. But the thing that struck me the most was how stable it was. I was at the back of the airplane, and I think I felt two bumps the entire 8 hour flight. Once when we took off, and once when we landed. It’s cute through the sky much better due to its sheer size and power
I've flown on the Emirates A380, it's hands down the best economy experience I've ever had, and the quietest take off I've ever seen!
I have flown on an Emirates A380 and it's the best experience I have ever had on an airplane and it was ECONOMY!
We flew from Dubai to USA on Emirates A380. We were sitting on the lower deck, so they didn't let us visit the upper deck to have a look as the whole of upper deck was dedicated to business and first class. pretty disappointing not been able to climb up stairs. As you know the journey to USA from middle east is very lengthy, so the excitement of been on a bigger plane vanishes after several boring hours.
I just love it when you say "let me explain"
Traveling on the Emirates A380 first class is simply the most luxurious and satisfying way to travel in the world today. I've done it many times. I always look forward to it, the comfort, the service, the food, and the whole experience is simply superlative.
Great video as always. I was lucky to have a flight from London to Frankfurt swapped out from an a320 to an a380 back in 2012 when BA was getting it ready for service. Since then have flown London to Hong Kong - again on BA - and loved the plane. However its more for what it stood for as it's such a beast of a plane. On the long-haul route, it was quiet and relaxing but still prefer the b787 and the a350 for overall comfort. And of course, the b747 will always be the Queen of the Skies. Having said that, much like the Jumbo, it will be a sad day when we no longer see this plane at our airports and in the skies.
I have been on the A380 on a 17+ hour flight from Auckland to Dubai. I have heard that the takeoffs are very quiet. On some versions the takeoffs are very quiet. You really cannot hear the engines (although this may be due to seat placement). On others, you hear the engines but they are in the distance and not loud. It feels like being on a very solid and secure plane when in-flight. The takeoffs are definitely quiet and stable and graceful. Landings are also comfortable.
On the long haul flights, in the front near the cockpit on the main level, there is plenty of space to stretch out and move around easily.
It is a good plane. And on the newer versions of it, which I think are the more quieter ones, the power outlets are high-power and can drive a more powerful laptop.
It’s so unfortunate for airlines like Emirates that have so many quad jets during this. I hope the aviation industry will bounce right back soon.
The industry will never go back to previous levels. I think they should be really happy if it returns to 50% in 5 years. Probably a lot less.
*never* is a strong word - it'll rebound but the recovery will be a slow one
Gerwin interesting thought, but why do you presume such drastic changes?
Nooo! We are dead! ("°~°)
@@cobyexplanes well said. I like this.

@@cobyexplanes haha no but for economy class it was great
The Emirates A380 is the most comfortable jet I've ever flown on. I always order Airbus 380 when I have the opportunity to fly with it. Have around 80 trips with this amazing aircraft.
Flown a few times with Emirates and with their A380’s. They are certainly one of the best flying experiences to date. The aircraft appear to fly smoothly riding out minor turbulence with ease. PS. I love their bar!
I was lucky enough to have been on a Malaysia Airlines' A380 once, it was an unexpected equipment upgrade. The A380 was super steady and quiet in the air. The friendly Malaysia Airlines crew even gave me a tour around the two decks of the Superjumbo. That was definitely an unforgettable flight!😄😄😄
That's awesome, sounds like a massive upgrade :)
I flew A380 from Air France several year ago from Paris to New York. That was the best and quieter flight that I made until today. Low noise and plenty of room in lower deck economy class.
quieter than the 787 or a350?
@@cobyexplanes Yep
Having flown in 1st, Business and Economy in an A380 it is by far my favourite plane. Most of these trips have been with Emirates, but also Quantas and Lufthansa.
I love the A380. I have flown with Qantas, Emirates, British and Singapore Airlines many times in Business and Economy on this fantastic aeroplane and happy to keep doing it. Happy days.
I've flown on the Chinese Southern A380 first class and it was great!
That must be absolutely awesome. I hope I'm able to fly business someday.
and no mention of the ONE factor that defines the 380: PASSENGER SATISFACTION. no other aircraft elicits the same kind of customer approval as the 380. it simply is the best. even for economy.
I've flown on one operating with Lufthansa. I was in the upper deck Economy Plus. pretty awesome! (From Frankfurt to Houston)
We have flown on the a380 twice. It has been the most comfortable flight we ever experienced. The take off and landings are smooth as silk and you feel like you are floating.
The layout of the cabin into pods makes you feel you are flying in a much smaller aircraft with more personal service.
Best aircraft we have ever flown on and we have been flying long haul regularly since 1976!
I've flown in the upper deck ecobomy cabin on Lufthansa. Great experience. Especially the storage between the seat and the wall. Also very quiet.
Very quiet, very solid in the air, even in a storm above Bay of Bengal, once delayed due to technical issues. Always get a wide smile on my face, when I see one. It's basically the Jumbo of our times - and it feels much more "solid" than a 747.
I flew with A380 from Singapore to Sydney in 2013 and it was great expereience. Then some flights to other cities (Tokyo and Milan), but after A350 coming out then I prefer A350.
Hi Coby, my wife and I saved up to fly Business from Dubai to SFO on our 25th anniversary. Best decision ever! Quiet cabin, Great IFE and food. We printed special TShirts and made pictures in the amazing sky lounge!
I flew BA A380 Upper Deck Economy. The Eco Upper Deck (I think Main Deck as well) is so spacious and it’s extremely quiet from there. Probably the most comfortable plane atm. I mean a crying baby kinda ruined it but yeah. A long haul flight isn’t a true long haul flight without a crying baby...
I had no crying baby last a380 flight thank god
I have flown on the A380 almost 15 times with AirFrance and Emirates.
Most recently I flew on an A380 with Emirates from South African to New York City and every time I set up on one of those jumbo jets I still sit in awe for a moment just stunned by the sheer size of them!
The first class experience on A380 and with Emirates is like nothing else anyone else can offer
Flew BA A380 SFO-LHR econo-upper deck. Extremely comfortable for coach. Seat backs tend to recline a lot so FA ask everyone to put seats upright during meal service. Flew Lufthansa A380 business from FRA-SFO spacious and quiet enough to get a truly restful nights sleep.
I flew on it once. We missed a connecting flight and we were put a Airbus A380 to London. I must say because of the extra leg space and less noise there was very less jet lag. I really enjoyed the difference. It is a pity the aircraft will be retired. I highly recommend it for a flying experience but as you say economics are the factors that will decide the survival of the aircraft
Which airlines were you on?
@@cobyexplanes I think we flew , Emiratea, Bangalore to Dubai and Dublin. Our journey to Dubai, got delayed due to a engine problem and we missed the connecting flight. So we were put on a A380 to London. I don't think Emirates have a A380 to Dublin. Usually I think they operate a Boring 777 to Dublin
You asked for it and I am happy to say to you this: flying A380 is a unique experience. Quieter, safer, more comfortable, and spacious. Luxurious if you are flying business or first classes. Do experience the experience once this virus eases out. I absolutely love the technology masterpiece that A380 is. Sad that economics of it are not so good.
.... and I have flown A380 Economy, Business, and First. I have also flown on A380s of 4 different airlines. Nice experience in every sense of the word.
Honestly this whole video really comes down to the cost accounting vs efficiencies debate of running businesses that was settled in the mid 80’s. To see so many airlines fail to understand this is BAFFLING.
Why do you look like "SHELDON" xD

A380 became my favorite plane the first time I flew in it from SFO to Frankfurt six years ago. It’s the quietest plane ever and the the smoothest flights every time. Flown in Emirates 380 from SFO to Dubai almost 10 times and always the smoothest flight. It’s huge so never felt turbulence that much. Hardly remember seatbelt sign coming on throughout the flight. Another reason Emirates use 380 on major routes is the 380 has around 80 business cleans seats compared to 777’s 30 or 32. So they make a lot more money from business compared to economy class.

I flew on an Air France A380 right before the pandemic started picking up, it's by far the quiestest jet i've ever been on. Its take off roll is incredibly slow, I thought we were never going to take off or use the whole runway. But even seating in the back behind the engines it's super quiet and smooth. The thing i found very weird was the way the plane handles turbulances, it seems to shake left and right instead of up and down like most other jet do
Love the new background, keep up the good content!
Thanks! Will do!
got upgraded to an A380 flight from dubai to jfk. Best experience ever. I felt like a kid in disneyland. Endless bread rolls and pure comfort!
I've flown the A380 with Qantas. It's a good plane, it seemed quieter and more comfortable than a 747 or 777. And you can't quite comprehend how big a unit it is until you're right up close to one. I'd rank the dreamliner above it in terms of cabin experience.
Yes, I travelled on A380 twice. First time on Thai airways to Bangkok and second time on Lufthansa to Frankfurt. It's such a spacious aircraft. Feels so big when you enter/exit the aircraft :)
Very intresting video. This was a common question without an answer. Now we know why. Thank you!🔥
Glad you enjoyed it!
Actually Coby talked about average occupancy factor of Emirates versus that of world average (77 and 82%). I think Emirates uses A380 only on the routes where it knows it will be able to sell enough tickets to fill up or nearly fill up the gigantic aircraft. Emirates has no shortage of 777s and is not compelled to operate A380 everywhere all the time. I have seen a number of A380s between Dubai and Heathrow operating everyday. Likewise for other major hubs as Frankfurt, etc. So, I would tend to think that Emirates gets occupancy of more than 77% on many of its A380 routes.
I flew Emirates A380 in 2014. It was the best plane I've ever flown on. The legroom, general spaciousness, lighting ambience and internal cabin noise (or lack of) was remarkable. It was soooooo quiet on takeoff, it was hard to believe you were in the world's largest passenger jet as you sped down the runway. The stats saying it's 50% quieter than a 747 appear correct. The other huge benefit - at the time we had a baby with us - despite being in economy, whe we moved around to wind her, or comfort her, the amount of floorspace around the stairs to the upper deck, and near the doors etc. was immense. You weren't constantly getting out of other people's way. It truly was the best way to fly if you can't afford business/first class. I've never felt so fresh after a 15 hour plus flight in my life before (and I've done loads). I hope to fly them again many times before they're retired out of service in the future. Such a shame the model didn't quite meet the needs of the future Airbus had bet on.

Once I flew on an Emirates A380 few years ago from Houston, Texas to Dubai (hub); it was by far the best flying experience I've ever had, that includes the A30 itself and the service of Emirates!! Emirates, keep up with the A380 and the service! Thank you!
There's simply isn't any other aircraft . I actually book my flights around the A380 schedule. Why on earth would I fly with the old noisy granny if I could enjoy quiet comfort like never before. (I haven't flown in a 787 or A350...yet)
Flew on Emirates's A380 a few times 3-4 years ago and it was one of the best flight experiences of my life. Do hope they do keep them in their fleet till 2040 as I would love to fly an A380 with them again
I flew around 10 times on an a380 (Air France and Singapore Airlines). Each of them was a nice experience. This plane is so silent! I try to book on it each time via the iflya380.com web site.
Agreed! This is the biggest difference you see in the aircraft. The sound in the cabin is so quiet even during take off that they were playing classical music that you could hear clearly. Is so spacious and so quiet!
I’ve flown Emirates A380s on approximately 100 legs, and it’s truly the best flying experience in the world. Whether economy, business or first, it’s so good that I actually felt an emotional loss when I heard Airbus wouldn’t continue the project. Quiet, perfect humidity, smooth flight, incredible service, amazing comfort. Even after a 14 hour flight - given a solid sleep - you feel good.
What about the "rumors" of Emirates, Qatar, and Etihad purchasing subsidized jet fuel from their countrie's government? Cheaper fuel would certainly translate into lower operating costs..
UAE is a hub of oil they can afford too.
It's certainly thanks to UAE and Middle Eastern politics in general, but if it were truly due to Shariah law, Saudia would be the biggest player in the industry by far, not Emirates. It's second in passenger numbers but pales in comparison to the other three in global impact.
The UAE put tons of money into Emirates because they wanted to diversify beyond oil to become a financial and trade center of the region and world. And they largely succeeded in that effort. Not everything Middle Eastern is Shariah and not everything Shariah is Middle Eastern.
@@andrewbeardenbrown Saudi Arabia is a sleeping giant. They are improving their airports, but if they ever think to challenge Emirates and Qatar they would destroy them in every industry. I flew on an emirates A380 twice. the first time, it felt cramped but I think this is because it was a very young plane at the time and people were testing what works and what doesn't. Then I flew it again from Heathrow to Dubai and it was amazing. It was so quiet, spacious and your ears never hurt. You don't even realise how fast the plane goes and how quickly it climbs altitude. In the inside, it is so nice and relaxing even though we were in economy. I really hope to have a chance to fly it again.
The problem is that Airbus didn't built it like the 747 for cargo in mind and that stupid negligence costed them everything
In the 1960s, Boeing expected supersonic passenger flights to replace subsonic flights. However, the also expected subsonic freight flights to stay for a while, so the 747 was designed to be easily converted into a freighter. The A380, on the other hand, was designed in the late 90s
Right now it'boeing that is in trouble
Yes airbus lose a lot of money but i think that even an a380 freighter will not save the progam so the a380 is just a fail. : -)
@@Penny1754 Yes, but the 90s were well after ETOPS certification allowed twin jets to fly over long intercontinental routes. Airbus should have anticipated twin jets becoming more popular than 4 jet airliners due to the superior fuel consumption.
Quite interestingly Lufthansa is now converting their A380 for cargo..
@@AnishAbraham Oh really? That's interesting
I flew on an A380 by Etihad Airways....it was seriously one of my best aviation moments...that experience made me fall in love with the A380 and aviation in general
6:06 is that a dude with wings flying next to an a380?
Cheesy Croissant Jetman
Yep! Check out the full video it's wild: ua-cam.com/video/_VPvKl6ezyc/v-deo.html
Yes, it's stunt performed in Dubai
I have flown EK for several years. I would give thumps up. Trying various carriers, A380 has proven to be better on counts - economy, business and first. This presentation is spot on. Thanks
Isn’t Etihad the flag carrier for UAE, not Emirates?
No Emirates was made before Etihad 2003 the year Etihad was made Emirates 1985 the year it was made
emirates is the flag carrier for dubai, etihad is the flag carrier for abu dhabi
I've flown in an SQ A380 in 2011 from Singapore to Melbourne, Australia. It was a memorable experience I will never forget.
It’s amazing!!!! But, it’s a dud🥺😔
Have flown the a380 on Lufthansa, Singapore, and Emirates. It is by far, the best passenger plane I have travelled on. And among them, Emirates has the best, airiest, most modern, highest seat pitch cabin ever. The level of luxury even in economy is fantastic and Emirates does an awesome job of making you feel loved onboard. Fantastic airline, probably the best out there.
I flew on a380 in economy emirates, the experience was really really good! Better than other emirate jets at the time. The seats are spacious, IFE has too much to choose from, friendly staff, moisturizing cabin, quiet and huge. 10/10.
I just flew 40 hours aboard the Emirates A380 upstairs in business -- JFK through Dubai to Mauritius and back. With the lounge in the rear and those generous seats and good service, it's hard to beat. Hate to hear it's ridding itself of half its 380 fleet due to C-19.
I have flown on an A380 with British Airways from YVR - LHR. I haven't been on a 747 yet, but have been on other planes such as the 787-9, 777-3ER, and I can say that this was extremely comfortable. I flew both economy and premium economy, and right beside the wing, and by far has been the quietest aircraft I have ever been on, making it that much more enjoyable.
Qantas A380 in 2009 when it was a new fleet. Flew Sydney to Los Angeles. I watched the behemoth taxi from the hanger to the gate and was in awe of the size. This bird is crazy big. I sat in the 2nd to last row on the R side (can't recall the row number off hand but it was insane - row 70 something, I believe) in an aisle seat. It was such a quiet plane I was speaking in a low, normal voice to my seat mates. Quantas had a beverage and cookie bar set up in the back for beverages, anytime. Plenty of lavs to pick from. It was well-crewed and the service was great. Upon landing in LAX the flight attendants allowed me to do a quick sprint through the upper cabin. I peaked into FC and that was an amazing area of pretty-much private rooms (although not as Emirates). It was a great flight and I'm glad I got to fly it as Qantas is probably going to retire the fleet, or at least that is the rumor.
I do love the a380 but something you'll notice as an avgeek is that the windows are quite small and recessed from the cabin. I don't know why this doesn't get mentioned more, but it's a real bummer when you're trying to get the best views. Still recommend you try flying one, though!
good to know!
I travelled on A380 from Dubai to London Heathrow and I was quite surprised. As I purchased the ticket on just a lower price, I was not expecting the awesome services they have provided. Loved Emirates.
I have flown one once only from Singapore to Sydney and loved the experience. A week later one belonging to Qantas nearly crashed after taking off from Singapore due to a serious engine malfunction. On my flight my seat was over the left wing and I was amazed that even though we were arriving in Sydney in the morning the wing size was so huge I saw the morning light but never sighted the sun while in the air.
I flew from Madrid to Doha via London for a 36-hour layover at the airport just to be able to fly back the A380 via London!
Hands down the best thing I have ever done, it was a like being stuck on a dream, took me one year to plan, and would do it again in a heartbeat!
Flew on Singapore Airlines A380 multiple times. In the early days they had a 2+2 economy configuration on the upper Deck, those were the best economy trips ever. So much spacing between seats, huge armrest with storage below the window, no 3rd person next to you, separate gate for the upper deck, not to mention best customer service in the industry.
Regarding noise, stability and general comfort I would rate the A380 on par with the A350-900 or 787-8
We had a flight on an A380 from Frankfurt to Miami. Especially my Wife LOVED the take-off! It was sooooo smooth compared to smaller aircrafts
I flew a Lufthansa a380 back in 2016 in my first trip to Europe. Amazing experience! Really geeked out the aviation nerd inside me.
Only once have I flown with the A380. Lufthansa Frankfurt - San Francisco. It was glorious. Most stable and quiet aircraft i have ever flown.
