Another great video. I have plented word of the day and maintaining an agenda or status f the class board. I am trying something I always do, speak in the affirmative as it relates to behavior I want my students to display. I am doing that on overload.
We did a what does it look/sound like discussion before small group time today and it worked really well. Tomorrow we will put it on paper as an anchor chart. Thanks again for the tips!
Your videos help me so much with hearing more opinions on teaching. I just started teaching after Christmas break and it is so difficult. I'm planning a time this week or next week to review classroom behavior and setting my expectations on a deeper level. It's hard coming in mid-year and trying to get the students to work at the same level you want them to.
I have been teaching esl for 10 years in an inner city elementary school (grades 2-4). It can be so challenging and draining as the years go on. The past few months I've been on maternity leave and found your videos. As I prepare to go back to work in February I have to say thank you! Your videos have sparked my creativity and have given me new ideas to try with my kiddos when I get back! 😄
Thank you so much for taking the time to watch my videos and for the kind comment! I wish you the best as you head back into your classroom! ANNNNND Congratulations!!

This is so helpful! I have my first day next Wednesday with my first ever class!! Grade 1/2. I'm a bit nervous but have loved following you to get advice and tips!!
That book is amazing. I bought it in the fall. I can't wait to get her new writing strategies book. I had mine cut and bound at an office store too which has made flipping through it so much better.
The Reading Strategies Book is one of my textbooks this semester (elementary english/language arts major :) )! So excited to get into it and start using strategies with the kiddos and extra excited to hear you use it too! Thanks for sharing as always, love your channel!
Saw a colleague do the COOLEST thing with her copy of the Writing Strategies book - she had the binding cut off, and had it spiral bound at an office supply store, Staples maybe. That way the book could lay flat. She also had those removable tabs separating each section. Genius!
I feel like you would love doing PAX in your room! It's a program designed to minimize distractions and transition times and maximize learning time. It's AMAZING.
Thanks for sharing your vlogs :) Even if you think they are random, I love watching them ;) May you tell which program you use to make those little booklets for your students? Sarah
The Reading Strategies book is A-MAZING!!! I had a PD a month or so ago, and they gave us each a copy of this book. Love love it. Even if an activity is rated as a certain level, almost all activities can be tweaked to work. You can pre-order the new one by Jennifer S., too (it's cheaper) :)
how do you make sure all of your students are either in your room or your partners room with them freely switching? i feel like i would have wise guys hanging out in the bathroom or something!
Ah... I thought you already had that book, you mentioned it on your channel last year - or perhaps that one wasn't owned by you, but I defo remember you reading it last year. Would be great if you could do a review of some type?
I do have goals, but they do not include leaving the classroom. I enjoy developing curriculums immensely. Being part of those teams and playing an influential role in curriculum development will continue to be a passion of mine. I am also a believer that teachers have value, so outside of the classroom, I enjoy doing UA-cam videos, making teacher products for purchase and working on the book I am writing.
The Lettered Classroom I think I asked that question wrong.. I didn't mean for that to sound like teachers don't have value, only wondered if you ever might move into a different position within the education system (like a principal or VP) because you seem like a great leader and innovator. I think you're killing it inside and out of the classroom, I don't know how you do all that you do!
No worries, I didn't take it that way at all. I was just expanding upon my goals since I do not have an interest in administrative work. I belong in the classroom while also helping other teachers become their own best versions of themselves. It was too vague, but I meant the 'value' comment to lead into how I am monetizing my skills outside of the classroom. My Patreon is a perfect example, if a teacher is looking for more access they are welcome to join, but since it is a subscription page it limits it to those who see value in the service. It's win-win.
What mid-year strategies have you decided to implement? Classroom communities are an on-going process!
Yay! It makes me so happy when your notifications pop up!!
Thank you so much for having notifications 'On'! That makes ME so happy :)
I just love watching you. I have taught math for 20 years but you make me want to teach reading!
I'm 11 but love your videos and want to be a teacher when I get older because of you your such an inspiration 💘💘💘u so much

I love your energy and ideas. The "its" on your chart doesn't need an apostrophe. I think it was something about 'staying in its place'.

I purchased your book club/tasting unit about a week ago and I absolutely LOVE it. I cannot wait to use this with my own class.
Ordering this book ASAP! Wow wow wow. Thank you for sharing this! I never would have found it!

Is it strange that I love your videos, I'm not a teacher and I don't plan on becoming one!
I think its your personality!

The reading strategies book is awesome!!
I wish I had more freedom to teach reading like you do! I am trying to implement as much from you as I can. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas:)

My third graders love anything by the author of Smile!

Love this vlog!! Is there any way you can do take a video of you while you are teaching?
Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to post those videos. Thank you so much for watching!
Okay, thought I'd ask! Thanks!
Thank you for answering my question! I will reset my expectations for tomorrow. I'm also going to snap and stare at them :)
Thanks for asking! I know we all have our own styles, but I find the 'Snap and Stare' to be highly effective AND underrated!

Thank you so much for watching!
Do you think it's worth it to buy the book if you're still working on your education major?
do you use your Apple TV at the frount
Question! Are all of your readers able to read those chapter books?
No, I mention in this video or the last one that I have eight students who are not ready for these books yet. I work with them separately.
Do you have goals for your career outside of the classroom? I.e. Becoming part of administration?
I do have goals, but they do not include leaving the classroom. I enjoy developing curriculums immensely. Being part of those teams and playing an influential role in curriculum development will continue to be a passion of mine.

Did you come up with your classroom expectations yourself? It is necessary to have a set number of expectations or does it depend on your class?
