  • Are you thinking about going to NYU or some other expensive college or university? In this video I talk about why I went to a school I couldn't afford (NYU Tisch) and whether or not I regret it.
    ****************************************************************************************************
    I'm Noelle. I'm an over-40 You Tuber obsessed with personal development, self improvement, psychology, communication, and productivity. Y'know...just trying to constantly evolve and be the best version of myself possible. No biggie.
    I'm also a voice over talent by trade so sometimes I talk about that.
    I'm originally from New Jersey, but went to school at NYU and lived in NYC for 13 years before coming to LA in 2010.

    Would love to see a follow up on how you ultimately managed your student loans -- very relevant in these times, when so many are shouldering unmanageable debt!

    The NYU school I got into has an acceptance rate of 9% and I got in, but got NO money. It feels like a huge achievement but also feels like a punch in the gut.

      Oof. Congrats to getting in but I understand that feeling. I'm sure you'll figure out what makes the most sense for you. If you got accepted to such a competitive program it means you must be very smart and hard working so I'm sure you'll be successful in whatever path you take!

    Do you know what the average Tisch Theater graduate earns/year? My daughter received a scholarship, but it is still $70,000/year...which would put her in debt about $300,000 minimum. Thank you!

    Noelle ,
    I am an undergrad BFA theatre student. I want to thank you for sharing your experience. I want to go to graduate school at NYU. How do you pay off your loans while working in the field? Do you recommend me taking time off and work full time to save for graduate? The elephant in the room is the cost. I will have to take out bank loans. Luckily for undergrad I will only have subsidized loans of 22k by the time I graduate. What do you recommend? I have this strong desire to go to NYU for some odd reason. The program is exactly what I want.

      Hi! Yes, I would recommend trying to get a job to pay for school, if that is an option. Perhaps you can get something somewhat related? For years I worked in TV production, working my way up from assistant to supervisor, and I got to work closely with actors... which is how I got into voice acting. That said, it is easy to get "stuck" so just make sure to have a plan going into it. But good luck!

    You worked on blues clues?!?! That’s amazing! I’m a non-traditional student who was just accepted to NYU SPS for digital communications and media. Do you think it would be a good idea for me to go? I’m worried about debt of course, and I also live in Seattle, Washington acrossed the US, but I have a best friend who lives in Long Island who offered me a place to live. I just can’t decide if it will be worth it or not. Thank you for your time!

      I did work on Blue's Clues! It was such a fun job! (and the holiday parties were amazing since they were a part of MTV networks.) Does the idea of going to NYU and living in NYC excite you? If so, I would say try it out. Guessing your friend lives in Long Island City which is a short subway ride into the city. If they are in Long Island that would be quite a long commute. I feel like your major can be used in so many different ways, which is great!

      @@NoelleEve72 so she lives in Ridge Long Island but she wants to move closer to the the city soon enough. The sps program can be part time and also offers classes later in the day. It would definitely be a longer commute compared to being in the middle of the city, but I think it might be worth it since it might not be every day that I have to make the drive. I love nyc, I visit every three months or so for the past two years and fall in love even more every time. It’s just a big change and a lot of money. Especially considering here in seattle we have University of Washington where tuition is very close to NYU tuition for out of state students, but for residents it’s much much cheaper. It’s just a lot to think about haha. I really appreciate the response! 😄 and I bet those parties were a great time! 🥂🎉

      @@Daytondaily Oh I see-- well considering that it's only part time that definitely makes it doable. Would you be living with your friend for free? Or very inexpensively? That's a great opportunity since you love NYC so much. But yes-- taking advantage of the resident tuition is also hard to pass up! Maybe you start there, but stay with with your friend over the summer and take a few NYU classes? Anyway, I'm sure you'll figure it out! Good luck!

    • @NoelleEve72
      @NoelleEve72  4 роки тому +4

      I assisted one of my professors over the summer on a production job, and then I did an internship at a film production company that paid me a little bit. After that I did some odd jobs: personal assistant, house manager at an off-broadway theater, cashier at a boutique in Soho, receptionist at a physical therapist's office, executive assistant on Wall Street... anything I could get to pay the rent, really until I got on a more stable track in TV production.
