  • The decision for a captain or pilot to release their hands from the throttle at a specific speed called V1 is based on established aviation procedures and safety considerations. V1 is a critical speed during the takeoff phase of a flight, and it is the maximum speed at which the pilot can abort the takeoff and bring the aircraft to a stop on the remaining runway.
When the aircraft reaches V1, the pilot must make a decision to either continue with the takeoff or abort it, depending on the prevailing conditions. At this speed, the aircraft has gained sufficient velocity for it to be unsafe to stop on the runway in case of an emergency. Releasing the hands from the throttle at V1 allows the pilot to focus on other critical tasks such as monitoring the aircraft's performance, handling any emergencies, and ensuring a safe takeoff.
The decision to continue the takeoff beyond V1 is typically made in a matter of seconds and requires both pilots to react promptly. Once V1 is reached, the pilot's attention shifts from aborting the takeoff to ensuring a safe climb and managing any potential issues that may arise during the initial stages of the flight.
It's important to note that the specific procedures and protocols may vary slightly depending on the aircraft type, airline policies, and regulatory requirements, but the concept of V1 and the decision-making process associated with it remain consistent across aviation practices.

(As promised, my later comment!) This was thrilling!! I love the nighttime arrivals and departures. Seeing all the lighting of the airport and cockpit lighting is really cool. I love hearing the landing gear come up -- can hear that perfectly with my headphones! What an amazing machine the Queen is - so powerful and beautiful. With the best crew at the helm, she performs perfectly!! Kudos to both of you! It takes teamwork to make the dream work!! Cheers and blessings always - to both of you!! 💕✈✈💕

Captain! I know that 4 engine aircraft will be banned from landing at Ben Gurion! What is your plan for this?

Thanks Captain, just a quick question: how many G's approximately be to passengers and crew to go from v1 to stop in the remainder of the runway if, God forbid, that maneuver had to be executed?

Actually the statement about V1 is partially correct. At and after V1 you are committed to the takeoff when in a balanced field length condition. However if your BFL is 6800 ft let say, and you’re operating on a runway that’s 10,000 feet then you have plenty of margin of extra pavement to abort the takeoff and come to a stop above V1 and up to Vr. It’s just that the test pilots don’t figure or provide this data.
