- "It's a Good Life" by Jerome Bixby, read by Mattie Overall
Today's story is a chilling tale made famous by the Twilight Zone TV series. It's about an ordinary town in Middle America, filled with ordinary men and women...ruled over by a small boy who is anything but ordinary.

Thanks Jess 😀 Great story, isn't it?
This story made my stomach sink... I haven't seen the Twilight Zone versions yet but I have seen the Simpsons version! Haha. Thanks so much for reading!
Thank you KA, I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Twilight Zone version is pretty great (as, of course, is the Simpsons version 😄).
Absolute fantastic and chilling reading. I enjoyed it so much and you did a great job. When you said have a good day at the end it gave me an extra chill. Thank you Mattie for using my suggestion, feel honored and thank you for letting me know you had uploaded it.🧡💛💚💙💜👏👏👏
Thanks Crystal, I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the recommendation! It was a pleasure to read.
One of my theories is that Anthony was possessed by a Deity or an extra-dimensional being. And that would explain why he was able to break the laws of physics. He didn’t come from our Universe. The short story described him as having a purple gaze & an unusual shaped shadow, indicating that he wasn’t human.
Either that or he was just some extremely powerful telekinetic.
That is certainly an interesting theory, Preus. Bixby kept the descriptions of Anthony purposely vague, but based upon the purple gaze and shadow that you mentioned, as well as the immediate and violent response of the doctor who delivered him, I agree with you that he was either extremely mutated or not human at all.
He’s a reality bender, technically human but ascendent in such a way that reality is to him as dreams are to us. His mutated appearance is a result of his latent effect on local reality. The fact that the town exists in a void implies that the story may literally take place inside his mind and all the characters are either made up or are facsimiles of real people that exist outside of the dream
Thank you 💗💗💗💗💗
You really saved me!!
I have this story on tomorrow’s exam
Thank you, LaMarslen. I hope you do well on the exam tomorrow 🙂
The scariest story ever !! !
It is rather wonderful, isn't it?
