I used to have some of these back in the day ! Solo the trooper the safari trooper safari hunter and the mauser and the pathfinder and of course the obligatory GAK versions ! The were good knives and the scales seen to last forever? I have never seen one without!
I have a Safari Model I bought when I was about 12. It still has the metal guard on the saw. It's in the plastic sleeve inside the original box with the price tag on it. I was shocked how much these sell for now. I'll never sell mine.
I think they are a good size and a sturdy build. One other limited 108 I can think of was the Walther. Great review- made a complicated subject simple!
HobieonUA-cam, you are correct! I forgot about the Walther. The Walter was similar to the Mauser; having black nylon scales and the Walter crest instead of the Mauser crest. It also lacked a blade etch. Less than 5,000 were made according to SAK-Wiki. Great catch! I’ll need to add it the description.

Thanks. I really wish Victorinox would bring the 108’s back and expand the line. Despite its size, if you keep it at two layers it is pocket friendly (albeit at the extreme limit). I could also imagine them developing a pocket clip that could be snapped into the lanyard hole. The knife has so many positive attributes. It’s a pity they dropped the line. Thanks for watching. I always appreciate your feedback.
The Swiss Shark. It’s not a question of spending a ton of money as you say but it’s a question of finding one and then if you are lucky to find one then you can spend a ton of money. There’s also real stag handles about 500 where made if I remember. 2 safaris fireman etc Great video very informative thank you.
Thanks. I got my first GAK off a German Soldier in swap. It was by CCM. It would be several years later before I even knew they were made by Victorinox. When I learned the bulk of them were made by Victorinox all I could think was "Why is the German Army buying knives from Switzerland for their soldiers? LOL. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for this great video, I love all your videos. I have a 108mm GAT that has a clip point blade. Has all the same tools but the blade is clip point. Has a tang stamp that says victorinox rostfrei.
Merkel123456 DAC, That’s interesting. Did you mean GAK or GAT? If you meant GAT, could you explain? I’m unfamiliar with GAT. I wonder if the blade was modified or swapped. I know Mauser and Walter commissioned three blade versions with clip blade. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Merkel123456 DAC, I was checking some sources. In 2008 Roger Remund of Swiss Bianco made a version of the Solo Plus with a clip point blade. Word is, less than 30 were made. I’m curious, does yours have a saw blade?
I meant German Army Knife (GAK, sorry). Here is my e-mail address (crocdiver64@aol.com), If you want send me an email and I can send you a photo of it. Im retired US Army living in Germany so if there are any knives I can help you find here in Europe just let me know. Thanks again for all your videos!!! David
Yes, it does. It is just like the GAK 1 but the blade and tang stamp says "victorinox rostfrei. I will keep my eyes open for a 2nd one and let you know!!
I never noticed before this video that the 108mm SAK looks to be their only "jack" configuration; very cool! Could this pattern also carry the moniker of "SAK Jack?" Thanks for another great video!
JJ Cahill, I guess some of the single blade knives are technically jack knives . Glad you enjoyed the video. All ways appreciate your comments and support.
Hello Tobias, very good and informative video. There is another 108mm Vic; the Victorinox Walther. It is identical to the Victorinox Mauser, but with black handles. About 5000 of these were produced. By the way very nice channel! Like & subscribed 😊 Best regards Joe
Great video - thanks for posting it. I learned a lot and I’m going to dig out my Solo (I didn’t even know it was named that) and see if I have the corkscrew or not. Can’t remember. Thanks again!
TheChimera 37, if it lacks a corkscrew, it was originally called the Adventurer and then renamed the solo. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Tobias - finally got it out and I have the Solo Plus. I looked on eBay & web in general and I don’t see one Solo or Solo Plus for sale. I’ve always liked this knife Simple, slim and lightweight. Have a great day.
Evan, you’re right about that. You don’t see the solo or solo plus for sale that often. I agree, it’s a terrific knife, especially in its simplicity. It’s a great find.
I know it was discontinued shortly after the German Army switched to the 111mm Trekker for its new knife. I'd hazard to guess that with the chief purchaser of the knife no longer contracting for it, sales saw a drop. Not to mention Victorinox launched the 111mm line in 1986 as an ergonomic replacement for 108 line. The design of the 111mm allows more flexibility in blade choices as many of the early tools were came from the 91mm knives. I think these two considerations led to the demise of the 108s. Kind of a pity. Hope this helps. I agree, the 108 is fantastic design and layout. It may not have as many options as on others SAKs but it covers the basics quite well! Thanks for watching.
A pity yes, but there also wouldn't be as much collector appeal to them if they were still available. Some of their allure is derived from finding one in mint condition knowing it's just not that easy to find.
Reason "Some don't have the saw cover...": The cover is Exceptionally Exceedingly easy to misplace and/or lose when removed. (I hope you remembered to put the cover back on yours off camera, before you put the knife away, so it hasn't become "one that doesn't come with/have a saw blade cover.")
The blade isn't much longer but the bit it is I find useful whether cutting an apple, making cheese and crackers or peanut butter and crackers. Also I have sliced bread with it and the length helps. I've never filleted a fish with tnis knife but I'd rather use this than a shorter one. I have many SAKs but I favor this one just for the little bit of added length.
A classic in its truest form, shame it's so darn hard to get a hold of, really wish I could get a hold of SAK 1961 Soldier, I find the Alox model very appealing more sp then the nylon plus extra compound non-slipping grip on the 2008 Soldier model for some reason, and perhaps if I am lucky enough, which I really doubt, a 1951 Soldier and Officer official licensed replica, with an oak or cherry wooden handle too,
anybody got an idea why tf there is a corkscrew on such a army knife ? The German Army one should have a Beer Bottle Opener -not a $"§$"$ Cork Screw ?!

Great video! Very informative. Thanks for boiling all the specifications and facts down into a useful level. Very well done. Keep up the good work!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it!

No doubt, there are SAKs that are as scarce as hen’s teeth!
I have a swissshark and payed a fair price. Just spent years searching for it. I am looking for a real stag horn and Walther if anyone knows please
Just found two of these , one green one red brand at a shop in Freeport Maine , both new never used one with the box , lucky me
Great video!!! I have two GAK's; one an Adler the other a Vic. A trooper and also the safari trooper. Love the video though thanks!

Many examples of army model with tool crash blemish stamped on scales next to German crest.

Knife Chats with Tobias yes, and I bought it new long ago.
Do you have any for sale?
Do you know why the 108mm was discontinued? My opinion in both looks and function the 108mm is the best.

Sorry. It is not for sale. I'm actually trying to find other versions of the 108mm
