He's a good teacher, I'm impressed. He keeps things nice and simple and clearly explains what he is doing. Not something I see often in guitar tutorials.
I don't even have a guitar with me right now, this is just so relaxing to watch...the pretty guitar sounds, the close up details of Simon's hand tattoos, the soothing Scottish accent...this is like some ASMR shit. Like a bob ross paint-along video. Totally makes me wanna learn this too
Unfortunately not many musicians in the industry, can play instruments these days, all the talent seems to be working jobs these days while mumble rap is a thing
Will always be one of my favourite bands. Very accomplished musicians but so humble with it all. The fact that he played violin absolutely blew me away.
Already knew most of it, but Simon filled some of the trickier bits that I just couldn't get my head round. Cheers Simon and the Radio One person for posting.
This is what I always say: you want to learn how to play a song the way it's meant to be played? Then learn from the Maestro himself! Thank you Simon! Thanks to you I now know what I did wrong and now I can play the song with my Coverband! Love you Bro and greetings from Germany!
One of the greatest songs written taught by the man himself! This guy has just become a legend in my book! I love this song, I love playing guitar and I love everything about what this video represents! Big up radio 1 for bringing this to us and big up Simon also for doing. AWSOME!
This song means so much to me, I've devoted it to my mother. And as the lyrics would suggest we aren't the best of friends. I made a promise to myself to learn it, thank you for this man.
So good having Simon to teach you! I already knew it but it was a different version and obviously this is the correct way to play it and had fun learning it! Thanks Simon! xx
Absolutely genius coming up with chords like this. This is the song that's written by a true artist. I can't stop listening to every single part! Absolutely wonderful.
Genuinely would love to have more vids of him teaching Biffy songs x nobody seams of be able to show all the tiny details like the man who actually wrote these beautiful songs x
This is magic.. Even if I got my own story connected with this song, and if I'm listening to it in an completely other situation, I'm stunned! Thank you for keeping this feelings alive in my mind!
were stranded in newzealand, locked down here, and ive been on a biffy-a-thon since listening to the live friday vids, i knew i liked them, just didnt know i liked their music this much
This literally gave me chills, awesome.......Currently learning to play ‘space’...... and now I’ve seen this I’m def doing this next, especially when it’s Simon teaching me 👍👍 what a fantastic sound and a great opportunity to learn from the actual person that wrote it instead of a ‘not quite rite’ variant .... radio one nailed it with this.... must do more 👍👍 thank you
I rarely sign in for shite like this... but such patience, and willingness to share what is an awesome lick. I top my hat to you sir. Magic, both in the the lick and the video - people like you make the next generation of guitarists... and keep wee old ones lie me alive :-)
Simon Neil is a completely different guy on stage!! Radio 1 need to upload more stuff like this. Now i officially know how to play many of horror by biffy clyro. T IN THE PARK WILL BE AWESOME!! MON THE BIFF
The full play-through of the song with the close up of the fretboard at the end of the video is probably way more useful than the actual lesson for anyone more than a complete beginner at guitar
I've been watching so many tutorials trying to learn this and somehow didn't come across this video... no wonder the best teacher is the guy that fucking wrote it!
This is Awesome. Some tabs are always different to how they actually play it, i prefer to play the way they (the Artist) play it. I only like the hard work of working out new songs but older songs; a quick video like this will have it done in no time.
We thought we'd use graphics of the strings as you see them on the video (ie top to bottom), rather than traditional tabs! Sorry if that's confusing for anyone, wanted to make it as simple to follow on screen as possible... so hopefully even total beginners who can't read tabs can give it a go!
BBC Radio 1 Can you share a link of the actual tab done properly? (BTW, by teaching beginners to read music/tabs incorrectly is setting them up for failure).
He plays it incredibly slowly so there is no real need for tabs. Plus the onscreen graphics are missing out the open strings so don't follow them religiously. Just rewatch it and match up the sound. Does wonders for your development.
He's a good teacher, I'm impressed. He keeps things nice and simple and clearly explains what he is doing. Not something I see often in guitar tutorials.

Totally makes me wanna learn this too
Wanted to learn a Biffy Clyro song. Wasn't expecting to learn directly from Simon, though. Thanks!
BBC should try to do more of these kind of tutorials with other musician they get in!
if they did id watch n get tv liecence .first would be a Tv
Unfortunately not many musicians in the industry, can play instruments these days, all the talent seems to be working jobs these days while mumble rap is a thing
Its not every artist that takes the time to share their music let alone with such patience.. Well done Simon. :D Monthebiff
i just can't imagine the moment that he said "guys, I have a new song" and played at first this beautiful anthem
As an advanced player i can truly say this is a very good lesson, so laid back and open. really enjoyed watching it, cant wait to play it.
What a legend Simon is. Top bloke.
Superb video. BBC should do more of this - remit to educate and all... Awesome of Biffy Clyro to be so generous.
One of the most individual musicians and bands of the last 20 years. Endearing teacher too.
Not many celebs should be looked up to. Simon is definitely an exception. Such a legend.
Will always be one of my favourite bands. Very accomplished musicians but so humble with it all. The fact that he played violin absolutely blew me away.
he's so genuine i love it. great musician, great tutorial, great man

agree.. unreal
This made me cry tears of love
What a lovely thing to do. Spend some time to teach fans how to play one of your songs.
This song means so much to me, I've devoted it to my mother. And as the lyrics would suggest we aren't the best of friends. I made a promise to myself to learn it, thank you for this man.
This is priceless to fans 😁 there is nothing better than getting instruction straight from the source. Makes the music all the more enjoyable 👍🏼👍🏼
Just discovered this beautiful gem. There is something very special about this one. Tears every time.
So good having Simon to teach you! I already knew it but it was a different version and obviously this is the correct way to play it and had fun learning it! Thanks Simon! xx

yup my thoughts exactly, refreshing to see this kind of vid
I met Simon at a Manchester Orchestra gig in Glasgow and can honestly say he's a great lad. Very humble and generous.
This is so perfect! Very informative and so intimate to have Simon himself doing it! Please do more of these videos, big fan :)
This is magic.. Even if I got my own story connected with this song, and if I'm listening to it in an completely other situation, I'm stunned! Thank you for keeping this feelings alive in my mind!

all the possible tutorials for this song on youtube have just become useless
Precisely.
I know! I think it’s great he shared this with us. More artists should do this.
Brad Delson showed how to play the solo on 'A Line In The Sand', though it's nowhere near as detailed as this.
I actually found it easier to play in standard tuning.
Same goes for the comma in that sentence.
All of a sudden, I feel like picking up my guitar that's in the corner of my room. I love Simon !!!
I learnt this song long ago, I just love me a bit of Simon
Simons actually pretty good at teaching how to play the guitar👌
@Mr Lesir Definitely, there's a difference between being good at something and being good at communicating it
NO SHIT
I could listen to him talk forever.
Love the song . Thanks for the time to show everyone how to play it. Cheers from 🇦🇺 Australia !!

Shit I just fell in love with Simon all over again
I kinda play guitar but my fingers aren't that agile to play this, so I'm basically just watching this because of Simon. Mon The Biff!
What an absolute legend
whether you want it or not! simon you rebel!
Not since the Skwisgaar Skwigelf "Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle" solo tutorial have I been so entertained by learning guitar
Thanks for doing this six months after I spent weeks figuring out how to play it by myself till my ears bled haha.
A great tutorial, Simon seems so humble.
Wow, I love this band. Why don't more bands do this? I would watch these videos all the time.
Brilliant song and very unique to hear how the songwriter wrote it. Thanks
Thanks Simon. :)
wow. he's great guitar teacher :)
How awesome is this!
The full play-through of the song with the close up of the fretboard at the end of the video is probably way more useful than the actual lesson for anyone more than a complete beginner at guitar

Great!!we want more of this!!!!Fantastic.
Awesome.bbc should do a series of these lessons from the bands
I've been watching so many tutorials trying to learn this and somehow didn't come across this video... no wonder the best teacher is the guy that fucking wrote it!
What a great guy, I think I never saw an artist teaching is own song.
I learned it by ear. Works well playing it in standard tuning aswell :) Sounds the same.
This is Awesome.
Some tabs are always different to how they actually play it, i prefer to play the way they (the Artist) play it.
I only like the hard work of working out new songs but older songs; a quick video like this will have it done in no time.
:) "Put that finger on if you want" I love the way he slips that sentence in there.
Love it, nice one Simon. What a tune as well 👍
Well done for tabbing the chords upside down.
We thought we'd use graphics of the strings as you see them on the video (ie top to bottom), rather than traditional tabs! Sorry if that's confusing for anyone, wanted to make it as simple to follow on screen as possible... so hopefully even total beginners who can't read tabs can give it a go!

I think that the tabs are necessary for the originally chorus:) i dont want play a simple chorus!!!:)
BBC Radio 1 it was extremely confusing
He plays it incredibly slowly so there is no real need for tabs. Plus the onscreen graphics are missing out the open strings so don't follow them religiously. Just rewatch it and match up the sound. Does wonders for your development.
Brilliant lesson. Thanks, Simon.
That was incredible amazing teacher!!
so great!
Aero kid I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing as it is HIS SONG
That moment at 3:52 .. Simon Neil is simply the best songwriter!! Period
