    Thanks. I only play doubles and i wondered about my racquets...I use a pure drive and ezone DR. I always end up going back to the PD
    Very stiff volley, strong serving and approach shot.

      Yeah I also play only doubles and use the Ezone DR 100 or the newer Ezone. I also have a DR 100+. It’s not as maneuverable at the net to me.

    I am using the Clash 98 - with some added weight at 12, works well in doubles - has enough plough through for fast volleys and pop for serve....

      Seems like weight would be valuable for taking balls before they land, like a serve and volley. Like a ball that at the service line.

    For me stability is the key for doubles: returns (blocking and chipping), volleying (when you are there not on your own terms) and overheads. That's why I can't go anything lighter than 320g static weight. Plus, less head lightness is always preferable (Volkl C10 Pro over Vcore Pro 330 2018). This week I'll start to experiment with archaic Yonex RQ 150 and 190.

    I usually play with speed MP and it works fine for me! I am currently doing the demo of the Prince Phanton 100X 305 is a beast in my opinion on the net, really a lot of touch and precision on the net! I really liked playing with Ezone 100! waiting for 98 to do the demo

    Excellent Video Jonas thank you for your recommends. Playing with a Prince 03 and nearly happy. Only then did I just learn Head & Prince void their warranties if you string without hybrid. Specifically stating there must be 4 knots in the string pattern or your racquet is not covered. I might have resolved a long standing disappointment with Prince 03 line. Super arm friendly so reluctant to change. I must say though intrigued by the Yonex Vzone '98.Can see a pattern though here, continually getting attached to the wrong doubles racquet! Prince isn't marketed that well here but Extreme Tour does sound interesting. Pure Drive is not arm friendly to my knowledge. Pro Kinnetix is never seen in any local stores as are Vokl, usually special order racquets. I'll restoring the 03 with VS Gut and Alu in the crosses. That might put me in the pink, if not Yonex Ezone 100 is likely my next racquet of choice.
    Thank you for another highly useful video, much appreciated. (don't forget to play some tennis) 🇨🇦🎾

    Agree, my doubles game suffer when using low powered control racquet i.e. 315+ grams 95 sq inch 18x20 string pattern. Prefer 300 grams 98 sq inch with 16x19 string pattern for doubles with 3g lead at 3 and 9 for added stability.

    Have gone back to my slightly modded Angell k7 limes recently for doubles. 315g static weight for stability but very headlight for good manoeuvrability at the net, I play with thinner gauge polys 1.10 to 1.15mm to help generate some extra bite on the kick and slice serves and help get the extra bite needed to get the slice backhand approaches nice and low and get the weaker replies, seem to be having better results than the Angell tc101s I started the season with at the moment.

    Great vid Jonas. My personal preference is that I’ve actually enjoyed low powered, heavy, midsize and soft racquets for doubles. So it’s almost opposite of what you said except the stability aspect. But that is my personal preference.

    Very good and informative video. I found the latest model Ezone 100 much better for net play than the previous Ezone model.
    On a UA-cam coaching channel there was a short discussion on grip size, and that a smaller grip was useful for net play. Is that something you have heard before?

    Nice video but I actually like using my Head Pro Tour 2.0. Has a lovely soft feel at the net and nice weight on the serve. I played my best tennis as a youngster with Dunlop Max 200G so newer frames probably wouldn’t suit my flatter hitting style

  • @Fernwald84

    I think 'maneuverability' for a doubles racket is a bit complicated, Jonas. It seems that a light racket would be an advantage because you can manipulate it more quickly for volleys, where fast reactions are needed. The complication, I think, lies in the fact that most volleys only require a short preparation movement of the racket. Swingweight, then, plays a less prominent role than for the serve and groundstrokes. Also, a heavier racket tends to be more stable for volleys (where racket instability can be more of a problem). I actually played doubles with the Wilson RF97A for a few years and I didn't find volleying to be noticeably more difficult.

  • @RossBayCult
    @RossBayCult 3 роки тому +1

    I think the RF 97 Autograph is also a doubles monster. The mass and stability at net is out of this world. Since there’s less fatigue in doubles the weight is not an issue.

    • @kilmoretimmyg
      @kilmoretimmyg 3 роки тому +5

      Manoeuvrability at the net reacting to fast volleys kills the RF in doubles.

    As a quick and easy way to check the SW impact of different string weights, could you compare a frame's SW with and without a dampener or two please. Given the potential insensitivity of the machine, I think two heavy dampeners (4-6g) would be best. It should be interesting to see how the SW changes if there were one dampener at 3 and one at 9 to mimic the centre of mass of the stringbed. My guess is the SW will increase about 1.5-2x the weight increase, and if that is shown we could infer that a light and thin multi of 14g installed could have a SW 9-12pt lower than a heavy thick poly of 20g installed. Would be great to find out. Cheers.

    one thing that is noticable is that the wilson ultra is almost nonexistent on the singles tours but present on the doubles tour. an 18 x 20 racquet brings to much touch and stability on volleys. i bet some of the prince and head racquets with 100 sq in and 18 x 20 are good choices

  • @markmoore5981
    @markmoore5981 Рік тому

    I currently play doubles exclusively with an Ezone 100 (2022) which definitely checks all the boxes outlined in this video and I play well with it (although on occasion I lack a little control on shots with the high launch angle and a gut/poly hybrid in the string bed). I am a fairly powerful player who hits flat most often, I was toying with the idea of trying a 18x20 string pattern to improve my feel and control - something like a Solinco WHITEOUT 18x20, Head Speed Pro, or Head Gravity Pro. What are your thoughts on this? Would this benefit me in your opinion? Thoughts?

    dont play too many doubles either but I have had issues playing with 100sq inches for doubles, as I didnt have enough control and it effected manuerability.. 95 maybe too small I agree, but for me at least mid-stiff, 97-98 inch and thicker stable rackets work the best...

      They are no équivalent racquets, 100 square inches racket with 16x18 string pattern but yet lot of control, great manoeuvrability yet stable, great comfort in à 310g package. Don't know with which other racket you can compare.

    I played in my ladies league last night.
    In the last two weeks, I’ve bought two vcore game rackets. I’ve been playing with the pure drive. I personally didn’t like it.
    My red racket has hybrid strings, polyester & multi feel 16 gage. I use this racket when I’m not serving, as it helps me with my top spin and volleys.
    The black racket has only multi feel. I only device with it.
    It was annoying last night because all the women were like,
    “ ohhhhh snap, she’s bringing out the other racket “
    I wanted to snap back and say, “I don’t spend $1,400 a month on drills and privates, 13 hours on the courts each week, for me to lose/double fault.
    I just keep quite and beat them with my tennis skills instead
