There's something that Justin Trudeau has that no other leader has in this election. Fire and Passion in his heart. Real hope and optimism for a better Canada can be heard in his voice. And I believe his answer as to what is it about him that makes him feel that he's ready to be Prime Minister was perhaps the defining moment. 20:05 Now compare that to Harper's response "I think we have the right plan for the country."

I wish Canadians would look at how the leaders behave throughout the years. Not just one lucky night at the debates. Mansbridge is right, Trudeau should have stood up for Canadians on the c51. In my workplace many people do well in the interview but do not do very well in the job. Ontario's debt problems are getting ever so serious, so I would caution against any politicians who campaign on putting us into debt.

That is why I am voting Liberal - a party that will focus on the economy, not socialized child care systems and minimum wage like the NDP. As a once Harper supporter, I have had enough of his poor economic planning and blatant lies and deceiving to Canadians. I am voting for what Justin is standing up for, not for how he looks or talks...

LiftedX Trudeau plans to hike taxes all across the board. Giving to the poorest.
Letting in a bunch of Syrians by Christmas.
Running deficits and leaving the country in a mess because business will be closing doors and laying people off. Less foreign investment because of higher tax.
Trudeau is the worst choice. Canada is the highest taxed now. Our national debt clock and trudeau is suggesting deficits over 50 billion.

I'll speak to my experience, and the specific experience I'll speak to are my deployments to Afghanistan. When Justin Trudeau speaks of training forces to defeat ISIS, he is spot on.
When we first arrived in Afghanistan and went to speak with local leaders, they knew who the terrorists were in their villages, where weapons were stored, when attacks were going to occur but they were afraid. They were afraid of losing their lives and the lives of their loved ones. They were a suppressed people, and only near the end of the Afghan war did we see local leaders and villages begin to arm themselves, speak out on the critical information we required, and in the end, they were the ones fighting for their future. We cannot go in to the middle-east and impose the change we feel they need. They need to arm, train, and coordinate themselves and fight for their own future. The vast majority of Arabs want something we can all empathize with, they want their kids to have a better life than they did. We just need to enable them, and be there to guide them when the dust settles.

+Canadian Apistevist I don't think you have a good grasp on the reputation of Canadian Army personnel. The adage that the best army in the world would be Canadian Soldiers with German Officers is a reputation we've earned and consistently demonstrated. While some people may mock our lack of up-to date equipment or size, the ability and acumen of our soldiers are world class. Any involvement in a mentorship mission will only expedite a favourable result and lead to less loss of life.

+013Burke - Trudeau isn't unique in this viewpoint--we're currently deployed doing that very thing. It's hardly a "Trudeau Doctrine" - after all most of our tenure in Afghanistan was under a conservative government.

Everything needs to be turned on its head and I believe that he will try more than any other candidate to listen to the average person and I believe he will try as hard as he can to do so. There will be ups and downs as in everything and I believe he is the most human of the candidates with the most open minded approaches. The system has not been working ... its time for change and i am taking the chance with Trudeau. I have never voted before and his candidacy is what is compelling me to for the first time. He gets so excited when he knows the answer to a question; it's actually kind of endearing. But when he's hit with a follow-up, though, it's all BS talking points or arrogance. His answers on C-51 and ISIS were particularly awful. I really don't understand why people trust him: he's not at all thoughtful or principled. Anyhow, I guess people will see what they want to see, and that's politics.

Les Zsoldos The world economy was effected by the Arab oil embargo. That affected the world economy at the time. Trudeau and Canada's was tied to the US and UK at the time. He built Canada's manufacturing, tried to separate and keep Canada from being taken over by the United States. (Thank Nafta and the canadian conservatives for that one) and finally why have a problem with Cuba? It is it's own nation, let those people determine there future. It worked so well with the US turning their backs to Cuba no? Oh thats right, after 50 years America realized how stupid they looked and followed Canadas path of live and let live. Remember the reason there are soo many refugee is because of war moron conservatives like you, WHO LOVE to fight someone, but when you cause instability and then those people need a home, you complain. Trudeau warned us about you imbeciles.

      @tintin613 8 років тому +4

      "Why?", you ask.
I was serious because Peter Mansbridge seems to have shown himself condescending towards Justin Trudeau. And, at the same time, if you pay attention closely to Justin, you can tell that he is lacking confidence and self-belief, such that his "energy" may have invited upon himself that condescending finger on part of Mansbridge.
Having said that, Peter Mansbridge's questions throughout this entire series have been above-impeccable. Amongst journalists, he is probably one of the best we have in Canada.
As for Justin, he is now competetive and more and more credible in this campaign.
He's a fighter, he doesn't give up, and I'm sure everybody has been underestimating him from the beginning.
Imagine what he will look like in 4 years at the next elections. He may be as politically-savvy as Harper or Mulcair. His learning curve proves it.

A bad grandfather would want to destroy the futur of his own spawn.
Anyway, I found that finger morally wrong.

They are very related, when government increase spending beyond revenue its limiting the growth an economy. This is because governments now are using tax dollars to pay interest, thrown away to the banks at the same time saying politicians can spending money better then everyday Canadians, just look at how high taxes were during P.Trudeaus term we had 14 tax brackets with taxes as high as 61%.
Canada had very little growth are dollar tanked and Canada was struggling. Its not rocket sceince.

COGS's CORNER You can't back your currency by the Gold Standard and grow your economy in an industrialized country. By creating Debt from the central bank to YOURSELF, you create a demand of your currency, thats how banks make money. Being in debt to someone else is the problem. The government owns money to itself. When the countries grows and continues, investment and development will ensue. Stop listening to fiscal conservative morons, who say hey were in debt, we have to cut taxes (cut government revenue) and balance the budget (cut public expenditures and programs that benefit the public, you create even more deficit, because the government officials are not going to cut their salaries, their benefits, and those benefits of the wealthy. You see?

+COGS's CORNER So far the other guy hasn't done any better, though. He's all debt and deficit, too. I mean, he says the budget will be balanced this year - but just this year after 8 years of trying (and a deficit he created by reducing revenues too fast) - but we don't know if that will be any more true than his lines on the F-35, or Duffy, or accountability.

So his mantra is: we HAVE to grow the economy - at all costs. But why? Why are people so obsessed with economic growth? We're already a nation of fat and apathetic consumers. 30% of our food goes directly to waste. Per capita, we consume and waste more electricity than any other nation on the planet! The question I would like to ask Trudeau is: until when will we pursue infinite and unlimited growth in resource consumption. It sounds like a silly question, but think about it: we would already need about 5 planets to sustain our current Canadian way of living in the long run. When will it stop? We can't keep growing our economy for another 500 years without triggering catastrophic consequences. But Trudeau doesn't even care about what's gonna happen in 50 years. October 19 is his only concern right now. He thinks Mulcair and Harper are wrong about balancing the budget at all costs, well, he's wrong about growing our economy at all costs. After all, if not changing our wasteful way of living is bad, getting into debt to do so is even worst.

I do hope that Canadians realize that balancing the budget is probably one of the least important issues facing us today. We need to invest, not merely continue signing free trade deals thus making us more and more exposed to a market that is proving to be more and more unstable.
The funny thing is, The Conservative Party of today is NOT a party that believes in conservative economics. They believe in the doctrine of neo-liberalism, radically so. Not social liberalism, but economic liberalism, to the most extreme extent. The scary thing is they still hold complete faith in that idea despite the fact that the IMF (an organization that has generally upheld the same belief) has been releasing reports about how it just doesn't work.

An omnibus bill is a proposed law that covers a number of diverse or unrelated topics. Omnibus is derived from Latin and means "for everything". An omnibus bill is a single document that is accepted in a single vote by a legislature but packages together several measures into one or combines diverse subjects. Bill C-51 is such a bill. Created by the corporations for the corporations this bill has nothing to do with terrorists, and everything to do with control over Canada’s resources. This bill was created for the extremely wealthy. Harpers media will only focus on select parts of this bill. There are many parts to this bill.
Bill C-51 takes away the law of trespass so any corporation that wants your land already has more privileges to that property than you have. Bill C-51 also takes away your right to court intervention that means you can’t fight them in court. If you put up a fight you can be charge under Bill C-51 for hindering the progress of Canada, under Bill C-51 you will be subject to a secret court case and be treated as a terrorist.
Liberals supported the conservatives in passing this bill. Bill C-51 was put in place for corporate reason and it wasn’t to make Canada a safer place for us. Why would they be concerned that terrorist would come to Canada to buy properties, and then use our court system for judicial intervention?

These kinds of non-committal propositions are the reason why Canadian people know more about American politics than we do of our own country's. We need a leader with the courage to make real commitments, not one who feeds us standard political lines taken right from a textbook. Our only option this election is to follow the history of each political party, rewarding those who have minimized recession damages, avoided scandal, and met their promises. Ignore all of these open ended promises that leave the politician a back door to run through when the plan falls through. I am disappointed to say that we do not have any leaders running for Prime Minister in 2015. Harper will sell off parts of the country for oil, Trudeau will alienate the job creators, and Mulcair will enslave the working citizens to social programs. Choose your favourite evil.

I believe that Trudeau is a viable option, whether that means he is my choice for prime minister is another story entirely. As it stands, the attack ads on Trudeau are incorrect, he's proven his own kind of maturity throughout this election process through debate and his communication with Canadians. This interview demonstrates his ability to get through a tough questioning process (this isn't a full indicator, but it's showing he's far from "not ready"). That being said, though I agree with his stance on political reform, and I agree with him on his economic plan (having to go into deficit) I disagree with him on not increasing the corporate tax, I would have preferred a minor one, and I still disagree with his stance on C-51. All of this being said, I have no choice but to vote for the liberals, my riding lacks an NDP candidate, whose action plan I agree with more.
