  • More gourds!
Why? Because the seeds are good, they’re fun to grow, and there’s a good spot for them to cover the ground right here at the southwestern corner of the garden. Gourds have always done real well here, that’s how we got the seeds. These seeds came from the 2021 gourds.
Birdhouse gourds are great for, you guessed it, birdhouses. They’re also good for making bowls and utensils and even musical instruments.
They harvest at the end of grow season, fall time. We leave them on the vine until it’s time to compost the vines and clear the fences and ground.
I don’t know if they can be eaten, I haven’t ever tried to make a food out of them.
They turn to wood when they’re wintered in a dark and covered area of the tractor barn. After one wintering season they can be cut, sanded, painted, finished into whatever unique and personal version of the item you’ve desired. They’re a great craft item!
    Get down, get dirty,
    God bless!
