    Eric -
    13 handicap here. From time to time, this dark cloud of muscle memory creeps in that causes 40% of my driving range shots to go short, low, and to the right, exactly how you describe.
    It's like living in a bad nightmare where you forget everything. What drill do you recommend that helps reinforce solid contact and avoids spraying everything sprays 60 yards short, low and to the right.

    I've said this many times, but if this instruction knowledge was available 25 years ago, I would have been a scratch player a long time ago. I live by this delivery now - it is just so easy to square the club early and then enjoy the benefits of being able to be ultra-aggressive at impact for more distance - and then you get to do this with a driver and play a power hold off fade like DJ (minus 40 yards).

  • @Godric56

I changed my backswing exactly as you mentioned and on video my swing looks pretty good and well on plane (it took me about half a year (a lot of practice on the driving range) to have this changed settled in, however I am now overdrawing the ball with all my shots. I am able to compensate somewhat by aiming more to the right, but it doesn't fully correct. Any idea how to fix this overdrawing? Thanks!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      Hey Erik!
      Yes.
      The solution lies in the part of the video where I did the opening vs closing math example.
      You need to learn to close the clubface less during the downswing.
      More passive.
      More shaft lean, less, roll, etc...
      Also can improve pivot likely.
      Would need to see to say for sure...join www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted so we can work together!

    The aim is to deloft the club to get max compression. I get that. But it makes me think--why not manufacture each iron with 2 or 3 degrees less loft in the first place?

    • @CogornoGolf

      Well you can.....but even if its 2-3 less to start and you open it too much you still have the same problem.

    That’s funny your doing this lesson. I just got back from the range hitting balls and working on this same problem. Played the other day and hit weak shots to the left I’m left handed and just couldn’t figure it out. I’m a big guy at 375 lbs and 61 years old I started to wonder in Father Time was getting to me...lol I don’t turn real good anyway and that was what I through I wasn’t doing. I’m a 10 handicap and can figure things out most of the time so after watching your lesson I have to head back to the range because I think this is what I’m doing....I wish I get lessons from you love your teaching ...thanks.

    I am brand new to this channel and this was terrific. I have a terrible habit of hitting an iron weak, low and to the right. I need to get out there and not only try to do what you are teaching but get in the habit of practicing as hard and long as you suggest.

    Do you grip first and then set up with the shaft leaning forward? Or lean the shaft forward first AND THEN grip the club with the V pointing at trailing collar bone?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 роки тому

      Great question.
      They happen SIMULTANEOUSLY.
      Not one before the other.
      Just like you are settling your grip as you shuffle your feel into place.

      Check out this video-should help with those answers and visuals: ua-cam.com/video/sJd-0eEQU0w/v-deo.html
      The answer is no.
      Hands stay pretty much inside left thigh with all clubs.
      As ball moves forward and feet get wider with longer clubs.....even though the hands will be in the same place....there will be less lean....bc the ball is more forward and feet are wider/more tilt of body.

      Sorry for any confusion.
      The camera reference is essentially behind you or away from the target.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  4 роки тому

      Hey David! You answered your own question there!
      Said differently...
      "How do you create lag and speed?"
      Answer: By tilting your club face down in takeaway and delivery.
      Go ahead and watch slow motion down the line videos of best players in world and see what you see.
