Confused about the sax solo? Join the club. So was Jr. Walker. This was the first time he ever performed an overdub on a song. At Motown, he always played with the other artists present.
Lou Gramm said in a radio interview a few years ago that the sax solo WAS originally going to be a guitar solo. But they were working on the song in the studio and the guitar solo just wasn't working. Someone in the studio happened to be reading a newspaper and saw that Junior Walker was playing a gig down the street that night, and the light bulb went on over their heads. So they went to the gig and introduced themselves to Junior after the show. He didn't know who they were, but he accepted their invitation to come over to the studio and record a sax solo on "Urgent." What we hear on the record is actually a cut & paste job -- Walker recorded several takes of the solo (off the cuff), and Mutt and the group took the best parts from them and put them together into one. Junior never actually played that solo, in its entirety, as we hear it. And at that time in his career, he had moved away from the earlier, more soulful and aggressive sound that Foreigner knew him for and was playing more smoothly. And his first couple of takes were like that and they weren't working. So the band actually had to coerce him into playing that "honking" style that they wanted from him. Walker was like "Oh -- THAT'S what you want? Okay!" And the rest, as they say, is history. In this Official Music video the sax player is Mark Rivera, not Junior Walker. Mark Rivera was the sax player in the "4 Tour" in 1981-82
I'm gonna keep requesting Peter Gabriel -in your eyes -secret world live version ONLY. It's very tribal and they are having SO much fun performing this.
Dude if you love the 🎷 so much the 80's is your decade. Spandau ballet, Hall and Oates, INXS and Huey Lewis and the news to name a few used the sax a lot in their songs.
Foreigner is one of a few bands I really wished I had been able to catch live..I was like 11 or 12 when this came out. Had already been seeing live shows/concerts for a couple of years by time this came out (first live show was Chicago in 1979..my cousin took me to see them at a college campus and tickets were like 8 bucks..amazing) so my age when this dropped would not have been a problem if they’d have come anywhere close to my city on tour in 1981/82.. I’d have been first in line at the ticket window to get a ticket. I live three hours east of Dallas and three hours north of New Orleans and would have traveled to either city to see them. Just never seemed to materialize. Foreigner sling with Styx original lineup, F Mac before Christine passed and Lindsey was booted and Kansas are a few shows I definitely regret not seeing.
Great reaction as always! Thank you! Please also be open to reacting to our PPop (Philippine Pop) Kings SB19! They have a banger song called Bazinga, Mapa, Mana, What, Wyat and many more! More power to you and stay awesome!
Hey! I was in college when this came out. My roommate had this album. I'd turn record player way up, put on head phones and study while I rocked. Welcome to my time of music honey!❤❤❤
Twon about two years ago, you reacted to a song called Shotgun by Jr. Walker and the Allstars. Jr. Walker sang and played a saxophone. This is the same Jr. Walker playing the saxophone solo on this video with the group Foreigner.
Just to clarify, the guy in the video is not Jr. Walker. He's a stand in for the video. I'm sure you already know that but just clarifying for others that might see your comment.
Are you sure I’m positive that’s him because I remember watching a live video of them doing this song and junior was there and he looks just like the guy in the video

Why it took until 2024 for them to be inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame is beyond me. I had the privilege to see them in the 70's and 80's. They are definitely one of the best Rock bands of all time!❤❤
I saw their show in Philadelphia back in the 80’s and when that sax started wailing a girl beside us launched her bra on stage lol ! The sax guy picked it up and fastened it around his waist as he left stage lol ! She was mad because she said it was a new bra ! I said I hope you put your number in it ! Otherwise it’s gone ! Great shoo!
Junior Walker is making that sexy Sax BURN FIRE!🔥🎷
Can't beat that sax solo!! Straight fire!!! 💯💯💯💯
Junior Walker of Junior Walker and The All-Stars. "What Does It Take" was my favorite song from them when I was a kid. Still love it to this day!!!

Lou Gramm.

Usually in music videos it’s always lip sync so one’s actually playing instruments or singing
I LOVE the sax also!!! This is one solo I could listen to over and over....thanks! :)

Foreigner was never the same without Lou Gram!
JR Walker&the all stars “shotgun” and many many sessions for Motown,if your into saxophone you should know who he is!
I was 20 years old when this song came out and it was fire then and it's still fire now!
Jr Walker Motown legend and Foreigner together it really doesn't get any better than this .
Stay in the classic rock lane and your channel will blow UP !!
You might like Edgar Winter doing his sax bit on "Easy Street".
You should listen to live version played in Dortmunt 1982. Saxophone part done by Mark Rivera is awsom
Timeless... Great song.
I laughed out loud when you got up and walked away when the sax solo started! That was great 👏🏻
Probably my favorite Foreigner song!
This song will actually melt butter!!!❤
Love this reaction. I was a die hard Foreign fan. I never got to see them live. (bummer)
Gonna see them Sept 2nd. It is their 2nd to last show. Retiring. Wish Lou Gramm was on the last tour. Can't wait to see them anyway.
@@bella-xp7qd wow.... I hope you have an awesome time!!

Junior Walker on the sax.... killed it in 1 take

My man went off on that sax!!!
This IS a good song from top to bottom, but yeah, the friggin' sax solo is a screamer...... truly a great moment in 80's popular music.
Yeah. One of the best saxophone solos ever. Money from Pink Floyd is a contender. And some Supertramp songs.
Check out the sax solo in "Move On" by Loggins and Massina. It's in the middle of the track but it is killer.
Good find.

Emergency. Urgent.
Believe it or not, the saxophone was invented by a Belgian man with the name of 'Adolphe' Sax. He patented it in Paris in 1846.
Cool man! Its a classic!
This Guy is Mark Rivera! 🎶🎷🤩✌️
glad you introduced me to this. i like this!
Thanks for the valuable reaction twon.
They are simply fantastic!

They hired the great Junior Walker to do that killer sax solo...not the guy in the band.
Mmmm sax solo 🥰
You're too cute, Twon! Lol. Love your facial expressions.
Junior Walker was the saxophonist. React to his “Shotgun”.
El solo de saxofón es del maestro Mark Rivera.
...get's up and walks away! Lololololol!

Sax, you say? Try this one: Romeo Void - Never Say Never
Killer sax!!!!
I think the sax player looks like Ted Lasso would have looked in late 70s... afro and all
