Oh wow. We lived in Binsfeld from 88-92. I went to Bitburg HS from 88-90. This brings back so many memories. Especially getting stuck in the snow trying to meet my curfew and some amazing Germans pulled my car up the hill before the cops left my mom’s house to go find me.
Couldn’t have asked for a better teen & young adult experience. ❤
Germany is still my favorite place in the World.

Great Video! I'm absoluty loving it. I live in Bitburg right next to the housing area. Always wanted to see how it looks/looked over there. The whole housing complex has been sitting empty for at least 20 years now. Hopefully the city will go through with the latest attempts to use this huge place for something

Glad you enjoyed it, it was definitely nostalgic for me. It does seem a shame all those buildings arent being used for anything at the moment.

Thank you for the upload. My mother is from Bitburg, my dad was stationed there when he met her in 1950s and if you were there in the late mid late 80s,an 90s and you bought alcohol at the base liquor store likely you met my uncle Paul who ran the liquor store on base for decades He’s my German uncle. Just dropping some member berries 🤣 Again awesome find and thank you for sharing.

My father worked for GE 1963-1966 at Bitburg. He was an electrical engineer. We lived off base in Pruem. I was just a kid 8 years old but i have such fond memories of Germany and the countries we traveled too. Met my maternal grandparents when they were in Scotland.

93-95 at Spangdahlem, I've been back and onto Bitburg, the ops side is alive and well and thriving w/German businesses, I used the bowling alley. The Caserne side was pretty abandoned and closed off, the high school w/weeds pushing up through the cracks. Great assignment I miss.

Thanks for posting this! I lived at Bitburg when I was in grade school during the time this video was filmed. I remembered a lot! I was a little bummed that you didn't drive by the elemeary school, and twice you went by my building and the camera was pointed the other way! Ha! But that's fine, I'm thrilled to see ANYTHING OF Bitburg. We left in 1989 and I don't think I'll get a chance to go back so this is very appreciated.

I live near the air base, my mother once told me what it used to be like there. It's a shame that everything is so empty there. Great video!!!

Thank you for posting this! at 1.30 minutes in I saw my Toyota Landcruiser. We lived in the building next to the base hospital. Who was your dad, and who was Dale? I worked in the Wing Headquarters Bldg when he was there and my wife worked in Accounting and Finance.

He would have gone by Lt. Colonel Berger, the commentator was Paul Batt (unsure of rank), but my dad said he got the special boots with his uniform.

Final years of the Cold War. A decade past the peak of "That '70s Show." Beginning with the "Era of the Eagle." 🦅 27th to 29th April 1977. 🦅 Eifel Eyrie's "Glory Days." Gone forever. 🍻

Thanks for sharing. I bet McDonald's is cheaper over there in 2024 than it is here Lol. I'm amazed at how they make it like home. Not something every ordinary citizen realizes. Although they should. After all, it is our money.
