Red Hot Chili Peppers Venice Queen By The Way Live at Slane Castle Ireland Concert Jam August 23 2003 Anthony Kiedis Flea John Frusciante Chad Smith Full HD High Definition HQ Quality 1080p
John's backvocal is everything.
So good!
The sheer musicianship of it.. Do you see how fast and hard he's strumming that guitar for several minutes straight?? And to be able to NAIL those vocals so consistently.. What a FORCE!
@@charliekowittmusic Yeah, he's amazing. I also love the musical chemestry he has with flea. Right at 7:07 you can see them looking at each other and John simles because of the little "trick" flea did.
EVERYTHING
John's background vocals during the line, "we all want to kiss her, tell her that we MISS HER....
dude has the voice of an angel! IMPECCABLE, the way john is always right there, harmonizing, melodic.
That performance is amazing, the extended intro, the vocals, the public, if you was go in that show you are a lucky person, one of the best live rock performance of all time.
I was there !
I had just broken up with a long term gf so didn't bother going to the gig coz I wasn't in good form. What a fool I am to have missed it. Gig of the decade😅
was go?
@@John-wn8jsholy shitt how do u sleep at night? 😂
@@lgzynger6405he missed tf out
Slane castle has to be up their in some of best live rock performances of all time.
Not Rock but alternative pop and funk rap psychedelic sex music sounds from heaven
@@surfboarding5058 look like a lot of words to me
@@Andrew-fv4sj alternative pop/ rock and funk rock/ rap rock
@@surfboarding5058 you missed mayhem lol
@@surfboarding5058 yep. among the best of all time for rock it is!
This is one of the greatest performances of all time.
Most Definitely
whoever mixed the audio for this concert deserves a fucking nobel prize
Hahahah you deserve a Nobel Prize
No he doesn't
dckstrat90 no, you can barley hear flea's bass for the whole show
Britt, you need to stop -- i hear it well
so get your ears clean
Criminally underrated song, one of their best
100% agree, totally underated and under played.
+Mike Bast its hard to play this song live but yeah, its incredible
its maybe because its hard to play at concerts, so its not know by many, but if it wasnt hard, it would be popular
This is probably my favorite of all their songs
It is not that underrated, the thing is that many underestimate the By The Way album. But in my opinion the entire album is a masterpiece. The entire band is great, but Frusciante is a genius.
Yep. Can confirm I’ve watched this around 474,783 times to be precise and can confirm it still gives me the f**king goosebumps every time. Genius. Truly feel the emotion every time you hear it. Thank you Chilis for blessing us with this masterpiece.

My favorite song from chili peppers. Sounds like the end of a bitter sweet journey in the middle of the summer. With a thousand memories made and stories to tell of times that never come back, but still, with a whole world to discover. Beautiful.
Like the credits are rolling
Better than the studio version, in my opinion.
mmmaxaz gym
Dude, these backing vocals are so perfect that I can't even listen to the full studio version after I got to know this one.
Tienes razón, 1000 veces mejor 👌👌
@@christiandavid7116 no hay mejor versión que está bro, mi opinión! Viva los red hot forever 👌👌
Agree, Johns back up vocals sounds better here and i also must say the best back up vocals by John in any chili peppers song ever.
John is absolutely unbelievable in this
Whole band actually
This song is in honor of the friend of the band Gloria, who was terminally ill due to cancer. The band along with friends bought her a home in Venice Beach so she could live her last days in the place she liked so much.
You can see the emotion of the band performing the song, so it is so special.
Nice to finally know who Gloria is . ✌️❤️
She was Anthony’s rehab therapist!
Respect to them!
Dam ❤️
Thank you for giving us the back story ❤
LOVE that intro and how John makes the guitar sound like a violin! Truly amazing how music can make you feel inside your heart and soul.
Totally agree! that vibes make me play this again & again! What an intro!!
It is a cool intro! Just be clear though, he’s recording the backing guitars for the track live before they play it. When the song kicks in, you can hear what he recorded in the intro playing in the background.
Just realized John is doing similar technique to Eddie Van Halen who did that volume knob technique to make guitar sound like violin, on eruption solo live
@@jbarkerhill92 Volume sweeps, Rory Gallagher was doing them in the 70's.
@@johnhuffman216 he's looping live.
The way that John harmonize backing vocals is just amazing.
His vocals are amazing
This Song was already excellent by itself but in the live show john just made it Perfectly, i do lipsinc more the backing vocals of john than anthony.... its JUST SO GOOD
M.E.A.T - Mild Enduro Associates Team some advanced vocal cords
6:44 orgasm
AMAZING
This song sounds like the end to a beautiful adventure.
I know right I just picture like the end of a war and me on the ground tired and cover of dirt xD what a imagination I got hahaha
+buddhamonkey Or the beginning? :3
+buddhamonkey pretty cool that Kiedis wrote the song as recognition of the woman who helped him kick drug addiction.
I think that otherside, under the bridge, Venice queen, rain dance Maggie,Brendan death song, Califonication, Charlie,Snow hey oh,ect. Would make a great movie
+buddhamonkey this music should play every important moment in my life... At least me and my friends listen to it out loud every beginning and ending of a trip, like a ritual.
You know a Live version is good when it has more than double the amount of views the Studio version has! 😍👌
You know a live version is good when it's the chili peppers
6 million views on this performance is a blasphemy, this song is a goddamn masterpiece
This song made me cried is is this bout losing Someone special in there lives ?
Matthew Lepore yes, the loss of a great friend who he saw as a savior, a queen of love and kindness
John gives sooooo much NRG into this one. You see he is trying to give back all that he never wanted it but is too humble to just hand it over, he superblasts it out...all the way to andromeda
I’m so glad Anthony got clean and has had the last two decades of life. I think he was amazingly, brutally honest to share how frail he once was. What a beautiful song to celebrate the difference Gloria made for him. She saved his life.
RHCP at their highest peak
so what?
+RockOfGreece This is probably the best BTW era concert. Also 2004 Yokohama is really impressive.
Alcatraz 2006 was freaking great
Californication and By the Way era was the best ever
Probably the single greatest live performance of a song in the history of mankind. Long live RHCP
I can't believe that John is gonna be back in the band!!
It sounds perfect. Sounds exactly like the studio version, at points better. Probably the best live performance of any song ever.
Great editing right
John needs to write a book about his life
do they ever do slow cheetah live?
unfortunately no... epic song
That album wasn't by the time of this show
Like Anthony made his Scar Tissue! Would be one epic read! #makeithappen
I've been waiting but I don't think he will.
In terms of the greatest guitarists ever, John is not credited enough! Not only are his technique and musical talent unquestionably excellent, his ability to convey emotion through his playing coupled with his back-up vocals is just awe-inspiring. Hero. Legend. Musical Genius. Deserves all the praise he gets and more!
I feel he is overrated in some senses not but I see why people all ways hype, but people tear done Josh
+Connor Norcott indeed
+Connor Norcott no te entendi pero si john es alto capo jaja
Well said! Exactly how I feel about Frusciante. A beautiful, creative genius! Love him and most of his musical library. Have you heard the Omar Rodriguez collaboration (The one with "4:17 am" and other songs)? It is amazing!
+Logan Knox john is underrated. Slash and kurt cobain are really overrated
I wish they played this song more often, when they start playing the acoustic my jaw just drops.
fuck you can tell they literally all put every ounce of energy they had into making this one of best performances ever. Fucking legends, and thank you Flea for being the best. I saw you back when I was a teen and you never left the stage while you played some Led zepp.
Chad does not get the respect he deserves
He gets it at the very end of the video, Anthony himself says he is pretty big
Because he looks like Will Farrel.
Chad is fucking amazing on this performance.
Ever since BSSM he's been knocking song after song out of the park. Chad Smith, Brad Wilks, Jimmy Chamberlain... All three are drummers who do the right thing at the right time. It might not be technically that difficult. But who the fk cares about that anyway... It's all about "the moment" and doing the most of it, even if it means doing nothing at all.
What instrument does he play? I only see Anthony, Flee, John and Will.
Love that cheeky little smile from Chad at 5:14
He's the only one not so lost in the moment he knows the magic they're creating
This song is hauntingly beautiful. Just perfection.
The way John’s loops in the beginning sound like a violin is amazing and beautiful.
He is absolute perfection in this performance. But I think that about every performance. This one even stands out from his usual excellence.
Listen to Germany 03 it’ll give you goosebumps
I can't even imagine how good it must feel to be in front of a huge crowd like that and deliver such a magnificent performance, where every member of the band is right in the zone and playing their parts perfectly and getting the energy back from the audience. I think I would be overcome with emotion and lose it.
I was thinking the same thing, apparently 5 years later. It has to be the best feeling in the world, not only that, they're so talented they're giving us one of the best songs ever created, I envy that crowd.
John has talked about that he doesn't care about performing anymore and what people think of his performances. He just wants to play
You just NAILED my exact love of live music. I think the exact thing!
Yeah I was thinking that near the end where John was just striking the shit out of the strings, it’s amazing none of them blew out during this song! They all looked completely entranced at one point or another, and that speaks to their talents as composers and live musicians
John's vocals literally echo in my fucking soul. He is the closest thing to God that I will ever see.
Lol :D
***** by that you mean listen to more john frusciante, i presume?
Now that John's back, I hope they will perform this live again. Definitely one of their best works.
I saw them live yesterday night and I was crossing fingers to hear this song live. But they didn't. Such a great show though, I adore them so much
@@gloriafernandezmunoz4080 lucky you. It's my dream to see them live. Hoping they will do one in my country.
Unfortunately they didn’t play it live during the european tour. Saw them on Tuesday and it was their last concert in eu, I hoped so badly they would play it. Well, maybe another time. It’s my all time fave of them.
I don’t think they will ever play this live again
I don’t think they will ever play this live again
This song and performance is stunning. Every detail is perfection and of course, Frusciante’s playing and singing is ethereal.
I was very fortunate to be there and it was amazing! It was a really hot day and we had a BBQ then went to the show. The Foo Fighters played and they were brilliant and then the Chilis came on as the sun was about to set. It was beautiful and so positive and overwhelmingly exciting. I'll never forget that day x
I been going to concert for the last 20y. With certainty I can tell you that RHCP were the best in stage! What ever you spend there was worth every penny!!!
damn i feel bad for your kids, bcuz when they ask you for the best moment of your life u will answer with a "rhcp concert my dear, why?"
angelivan88 Is that right?
Does the weather ever becomes hot in Ireland?
+KutayUgurluer sometimes we get good Summers. I always remember the day of the Slane concert, it was so hot, people were wearing beach-type clothes! bikinis and shorts all day ☺
No words can describe how hard it is to play guitar and harmonise like that. Frusciante is incredible!
For John, it's as easy as breathing.
He plays with his heart.
So do the other band members.
Feeling
👏
Only band in the world where each member plays a big part in the band. They need each other
Such a huge FACT! I look at each of them, and they each have a huge story. John is just on another level, Anthony with overcoming his struggles, Chad with his Will Ferrell lookin ass, and Flea the movie star!
Can't believe how epic this is. Been listening to this song from day one and I still get chills every single time. Pure legend.
Wow. Legendary performance. John's acoustic sounded just perfect. I love how John always gives it his all.
watch stevie ray vaughn play
Kevin pusateri Lol, I know all about Stevie Ray. I'm from Austin, TX, trust me haha. Thanks for trying to broaden my musical horizon though. =]
Haa, ya Stevie's passion is unrivaled
Kevin pusateri Doubt that, he is passionate but there are a heckload of other musicians who are just as passionate. Or else music would die out.
Also his vocals, truly amazing in this live performance!
The guitar harmony in the start of the song is AMAZING.. John best guitar player of all the time
it sounds like a siren that is calling you to finally enter the gates of heaven. And you just can't resist.
John truly is in the moment. As a musician he is not credited enough for his ability to convey his emotions but also to allow the audience to explore simple, yet profound truths.
Knowing the backstory makes this song so much better. What a perfect tribute to a special person in their lives.
I remember smiling from ear to ear when I first heard Frusciante play the guitar and the vocals that way. I promise this video has helped me so much to make life worthwhile.
they were so on fire during this period. at the absolute top of their game
I love the way John walks out in the end
Me too! He seems to be completely amazed by the song😍
*slays acoustic guitar in front of 80,000 people, casually walks off*🎸🙌🏻
One of their most underrated songs ever
John is so Great !
For some reason, this performance just gives me goosebumps!!!!!!!
the reason is the performance is incredible :)
Agreed!
Andrew Stokesbury feel electricidad in the brain listend your band good music !congratz i enjoy it very much and offcourse i would like to say this and maybe one day we can get fun together ! crazy genius of music cheers! thx 4 the feelings ! :D
John is Jesus thats why
Lyrics :)
Does it go from east to west
Body free and a body less
Come again just to start a fresh
Once again to find a home
In the moment of the meantime
Dropping in coming through the mesh
Checking in just to get it blessed
Hard to leave when it's picturesque
Find a form that's free to roam
Where you come from
Where you going
Do it all then it all again
Make it up and you make a friend
Paddle on just around the bend
Find a place where you can see
All the mamas and the papas
Take a chance on a recommend
Hard as hell just to comprehend
Disbelief that I do suspend
Easy now to find a breeze
Where you come from
Where you going
We all want to tell her
Tell her that we love her
Venice gets a queen
Best I've ever seen
We all want to kiss her
Tell her that we miss her
Venice gets a queen
Best I've ever
I know you said you don't believe
In god do you still disagree
Now that it's time for you to leave
G.L.O.R.I.A.
Is love my friend
Your stylish mess of silver hair
A woman of your kind is rare
Your uniform returns to air
G.L.O.R.I.A.
Is love my friend
And now it's time for you to go
You taught me most of what I know
Where would I be without you Glo
G.L.O.R.I.A.
Is love my friend
I see you standing by the sea
The waves you made will always be
A kiss goodbye before you leave
G.L.O.R.I.A.
Is love my friend
Seen them live 5 times in the last 15yrs and going again summer 2023, never heard them play this and it's one of my favourite songs ever by them. Keeping my fingers crossed for next year but every time I see them they get better and better x
I would kill to hear this in London next year.
They haven’t played this song since the by the way tour which was 2003. It’s crazy it’s been that long
My favorite song by RHCP. Wish I could have been at this concert.
Same
it's one of those which take you deep deep deep in your heart
It is my favourite song to play on bass.
Rapp Scallion it was amazing x
Everytime I listen I feel like I'm there ❤
john's backing vocals !!!!!!!! the best
I came from RHCP (Josh era) and listening to this again. For me, they sound very different. Like, i can't believe they had EVER sound like this. And John. Wow. Uncomparable.
If there is a time machine, for sure my first trip would be to this place, exactly at this time.
I almost cried to this one great job probably the best band of all times
DRAKE I know that is you I didn't know you liked the chilli peppers
As incredibly beautiful as the studio version is... this live version trounces it. Holy shit... and such a sincere tribute to write for someone. Goosebumps.
this song needs to appear on the new tour setlist at some point!! I know it's almost impossible but they should make it happen 😭🙏 that would be a dream
You never know! I saw Muse live in DC and they played songs they hadn't touched in 7 years.
@@longgoneg60 yeah but Muse isn't Red Hot, they're more of some divas (love them, my faborite band and all but let's be honest), they will probably never play this live again
7:04 this F is so damn powerful and clean- I replay this part over and over every time I listen to this song
The whole outro gives me goosebumps, but yeah, that F chord is definitely the climax.
amazing frusciante.. amazing RHCP
johns back up vocals are so essential to Anthony kiedis sound goes unnoticed and makes overall vocal track. listen to otherside and scar tissue or cant stop. all their songs had frusciante beautiful falsetto
Unbelievable how good this song is. The intro is out of this world!!!
Everything bad and everything good that happened in these guys' lives culminated in the best version of this song ever.
Was home alone and decided to watch this over porn, no joke.
Good choice
This isn't porn? The way John is handling that guitar might say otherwise...
What would Freud say? Repressed memories of being abused by your uncle when you was young?
John Doe he’d say let’s do some coke!
Gonna get urself killed if keeping on like this, maybe try watching this over practicing guitar. As inspiration
Johnnys' emotion poured in this whole concert.
The goosebumps on intro get me every time. So good. Bloody brilliant
This song is one half the void you feel when someone close dies, but the other half the overriding power of your love and gratitude for them. 'I see you standing by the sea, the waves you made will always be.'
My friend x
Still watching in 2017....14 years later....this performance ages well👍
#2019
8/3/2019!
2020
2021 still watching it constantly, this can't be topped
2022 🥰💜
It’s amazing how the best RHCP concert is nearly 20 years old and it’s aged like fine wine
This is like, take your breath away good. I remember hearing this song for the first time, and this is the closest I’ve ever come to replicating that experience. Quite literally flawless.
The whole second half of By The Way is full of phenomenal music. Not to detract from the 1st half, which has the singles (also amazing), but the second half of the album deserves so much recognition. Midnight's symphonic introduction and powerful chorus, Throw Away Your Television is a fantastic song (made even better with in Live At Slane with the continuation jam on the song), Cabron has amazing guitar work and is super catchy, Tear's chorus that you just have to sing along to with John's typical amazing background vocals, same with On Mercury catchy chorus and background vocals with the Mexican sounding horns section, Minor Thing is just section after section of vintage RHCP background vocals, Anthony rapping verse section, the killer guitar solo, the INCREDIBLE memorable guitar lead outro (it's 4 notes. 4 fucking awesome notes), Warm Tape's dualing vocal/guitar prechorus, and this video says everything you need to know about Venice Queen
Finally someone who feels exactly like I do. It's my favorite half of an album ever
Too bad it is rare they play any of those tracks live.
Warm Tape and Venice Queen are two of the most underrated songs on the record. And they close it off beautifully
By The Way is just the goat
The Californication-Stadium Arcadium era is like a gift that never stops giving. I never went out of the way to listen to the full albums, they would just trickle down to me as I endlessly replayed whatever song from those 3 albums I liked at the time. Every week I'd be like, "woah, never saw that one before." All of those albums have so many songs, most of them being really good.
hands down one of their best songs ..
this song has enough instrumental and vocal qualities to fall under the categories like , "stairway to heaven ", "bohemian rhapsody " , "a day in life " "comfortably numb " and so on ..
Wouldn’t say there best song but a fantastic song
Today marks the 20th anniversary of By The Way release and the first thing that I remember was this performance of "Venice Queen" at Slane Castle. Simply magical.
Still debatably the greatest live performance of all time IMO. Along with this whole set. Absolutely legendary stuff
imagine they play Venice Queen again 😍
This song is so cool.
Damn, I'm surprised that Chad didn't get sued by those drums. He beat the fuck out of them. Not just on this tune, but the whole damn concert. Hell, watch the intro to this concert and Purple Stain.
Bro purple stain at slane is the best fucking thing I ever did see. Chad is a god, all of them just sync so well
+Mike Medvedev Yes! I'm getting used to Josh, but damn John, Chad, Flea and Anthony just made the best fucking music.
+Isaiah Johnson i hate the backing vocal improvisations by josh. i try to like but can't. unfortunately he has to fill in for shoes much bigger than him.
+deez135 nuatz Josh's not exactly the best in world when it comes to the background vocals. But you gotta remember, her was a drummer before he went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers
+Isaiah Johnson yeah hes clearly not that good.
and although he was a drummer, he was even then a multi instrumentalist just like john.
Never seen such an harmony in a group..
Can we appreciate Chad’s drumming for a moment?
I wish i was there. John is like a rock jesus in this video.
nonnanevrotica He is way bigger.
Every time he sings is like I'm being hugged by a warm blanket... It just gives me the chills
I was foo fighters and Queens of the stone age played support brilliant gig
nonnanevrotica same but this concert took place 2 months and 2 days before I was born
this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my entire life. venice queen is the best song that this band has ever written, by the way is the best album they've ever written
By the way is my fav as well
watch this video> RHCP dont forget me live at la cigale. i dare anyone to tell me about a better stuff than that one!
Yeah this song is criminally underrated
my fav is stadium arcadium, is just so completed. although i really like by the way.
Walls not really
One of the most beautiful sounds I’ve ever heard though my 28 years of life
Hello fellow 30 year old
This performance made me fall in love with this song ❤️
i wonder if they knew they were making history up there right then...
+Matthew Calhoun it looks like chad does
Immortals
+Joseph Caldwell he's pretty big
+Matthew Calhoun Probably just enjoying too much to think of that :p
I was there - I knew they were!! Watching 13 years later! I will NEVER forget it!
Never heard Anthony sing in tune like this.. Props!
after all these years, this performance still gives me goose bumps
One of the top live performances from RHCP. Everyone in perfect sync, awesome vibe, John coming in with that acoustic guitar gets me every time
John's face at the very end, exhausted, a bit disoriented … shows how much he was one with the song
Anne Dworak in the moment
hell yes!!, he was on the fucking song
also it's really fucking tiring to play the end of this song on acoustic guitar with the proper power in the rhythm
try playing it with him all the way through, even if you are not emotionally invested it takes the wind out of ya
Takes a lot of energy to play the way he was playing there. Not to mention the singing he was doing. Very involved stuff
Me and my gf broke up 2 years ago. This song reminds me of her everytime I listen to or hear it because this is last song I listened before going on third date with her and then we kissed first time. I moved on from that but damn, the feeling I get listening to this song... I feel sad because I knew we had magic and we could have been so good together and she was my first real love. But at the same time I feel relaxed, open up to a new relationships, to new people, to new challenges and again I feel so nostalgic. This song is truly magical and powerful. Really special and unique.
Same man almost the same
one of the MOST underrated song ever... This is a masterpiece !
15/12/19 The return of the King.
I think the live version is better than recorded...
Well... you would say that wouldn't you. Always with your shenanigans.
Eduardo Ribas like every RHCP song (except snow)
Sundaly why snow?
I never found a better version of this song live than recorded, mainly because they didn't play much this song and it's pretty hard to sing, i'd say.
Ylnd I’ve come to lead the way. The Chorzow performance is incredible imo
This is one of the best live performances I've ever seen - the song has so much more emotional impact when performed in front of the crowd. I MUST go to Slane Castle for a concert someday.
When John pops up on the acoustic!!🙌🏻❤️👏🏻👏🏻
If heaven exists, the first couple of minutes of this is the soundtrack I'd like to arrive to.
Off the scale! John is unreal!
John fruciante.. A force...
John's background vocals are everything
100% Its what makes this version better than any other.
Best concert in the history of music.
LOVE THIS!!! :) The Universe came together on this performance!!! Peace.... Great energy... Beautiful ....
John Frusciante...the soul of RHCP...never the same without him.
i've said this many a time the new guitaRIST JOSH JUST DOESNT CARRY THE BANDS SOUND LIKE JOHN DID,sounds bland compared to fruciate they lost a big part of their sound when he left wish he'd come back but it will never happen unfortunetly
I think this song is underrated and forgotten many times
its a crime this gig is not on spotify
It is there on Spotify
