I think with real water boarding the point of the cloth is that you don't see it coming so they go again when you're not ready for it
The point isn't really to make it immediately unbearable. Rather it is to make the feeling of drowning last for a long time.
The thing is when the towl is wet, when you breath you get little sprinkls of water in your Lunge that makes you feel you drown without actully having enough water in it to drown.
Thats why you actully dont need to much water and can do this for hours before the person passes out caused by mental exhaustion.
Your body will be on alert mode for to long and your brain will just snap. Its usally that Moment they Stop because you can stop breathing too.
The towel also helps keep the water that's made it's way into your body, from coming out. I mean, just imagine how much water it'd take for the same effect. If they hold their breath? Houston jumped up immediately, because the water rinsed the hotsauce and alcohol and vinegar up his nostrils causing immediate agony. So they would really need to revisit this and do another controlled test without the towel using only water. I'd bet you could last the entire jug. Because you can see it coming and lots of people can easily breath hold for one min. Hell I can and I'm a smoker with Copd!
Yeah because the entire point of water boarding is psychological, it has to simulate drowning, not actually drown someone, it can if done for long enough obviously but, the point is to make someone afraid, petrified to a point, that they csnt take it anymore, so they just give in and give the information lol, doing it without the towel is just drowning someone directly so you wouldn’t get any information
