  • It's been a while since I've posted because of the new school semester but I'm excited to be uploading again! Also, I apologise for forgetting to give a spoiler warning for this video, please don't kill me...
In this video essay, I talk about the factors that make this film a masterpiece as well as explaining the ending and hidden meanings behind this amazing film. Calling it a masterpiece might be a bold statement, but I believe that it deserves that title. I went into 5 Centimetres per Second without knowing what to expect and it completely amazed me. If you're a sucker for sad romance animes (like me), I do recommend this film, although it definitely isn't for everyone.

I didn't cry at this movie but damn was I close to. Living with the knowledge that your destined soulmate, whom you would have spent the rest of your life together, was separated from you and moved on and got engaged must be a hell of a tough pill to swallow. Only watching someone else's story almost made me cry, now imagine the actual people going through this. This one's a hard reality check.

I love this movie. It goes to show that love isn't some powerful thing that overcomes everything

In the movie he smiles and kept moving forward and then black screen to credits....
In the manga, as he was walking the childhood version of Akari was looking at him from behind and she started waving goodbye 😭
Damn it still stings, even though i understand why that's the ending of their love story

Thanks for the ending explanation, I just thought that Takaki was just depressed and that was it but now I see that the ending was a relatively happy one.

Good analysis - this film hit home with me, and made me reflect on my life - I didn't like what I saw, as I left some real damage behind, by not "being there" in relationships. Takaki was not there for Risa especially - a 3-year relationship that wasted their precious young years. I did the exact same thing in an even longer relationship, and I'll never feel right about it. This film is especially beautiful - but the message is powerful. My favorite anime film.

I just watched this master piece last night. It was so moving and sad that I had to make a short podcast about it. Now I am looking for reviews of this show and not disappointed by fellow humans.

    Saddest part - Cosmonaut
The scene where Takaki walks along the street followed by Kanae and with the sound effect of cicadas !! It feels so sad, hopeless and lonely !!And that look on his face !!!
    Really aches my heart !!!!
But manga gives some positive hope !!!
So do read the manga if you can’t digest the ending !!!
