Personally, I'm physically disabled (67) and needed to be able to pitch a berghaus tent by myself with little effort and this fits the bill. So timing is not really a consideration for me. I'm just happy that these air pumps exist as it means I can continue to enjoy camping as I have done since I was a child. I also sleep on a dometic recliner as eveything else is too low and/or flimsy for me to get off of without a struggle, but that's another story.

Glad to know that by using an awning pump you are able to keep on camping. I have some back problems and being tall always struggle a bit with the manual pumps. My main initial concern about how long it took to pump up the awning was disturbing others with the noise. But it's not overly loud and doesn't take long so haven't really had a problem

Just a note to say, having both a Kampa air awning and a Berhaus air shelter I've discovered that the 12v Kampa Gale pump does not have an adaptor suitable for the Berghaus air shelter, in fact I'm struggling to find any 12v pump that will fit the Berghaus.

Thanks for the useful tip for any Berhaus users. We had a similar issue with our previous Vango air awning when we wanted to use the downdraft Kampa pump with it. (Not electric but easier to use as only pumps on down stroke.) I managed to connect it using a combination of PTFE and electrical tape. Bit of a bodge but it worked.

Could you connect the 12v part into a portable power station. Or would it need to be into a running car please. Thank you

    • @DTSquared

Hi Sue, Providing the power station can deliver 12volts at 10amps then yes definitely. It would also need to have a cigarette lighter style connection or you'd need to either change the plug type on the pump or buy an adaptor of some kind. I've used it with the ALLPOWERS solar generator unit ( my review here ua-cam.com/video/qFPxxQZKLyM/v-deo.html) when filming and it worked fine.
I suspect that if hooked up to a car when the engine is on then it may get a little more current and so pump a little quicker but I doubt it would make much if any difference.
      Hope that helps.
      Dave

@@DTSquared Hi Dave. I have a Jackery 500 and an EcoFlow 1200 both with cigarette style inputs. What size all is your all powers please. And thank you for replying. Great review. I just bought the pump to inflate my Quechua air awning. It inflates to 7psi. Thanks again

The pump seemed OK at the first time of using, but wouldn’t pump more than 2.5lb psi. We found the output pipe leaked at the pump end, where there is a fitting with two screws in it. This fitting is loose. We managed 6lb psi if the hose was pressed into the connector. Has anyone else had this problem?

Mines fine still and a friend has just bought one that works fine.
I'd say it was faulty and should be sent back/replaced. If you are on holiday at the moment then it may be possible to make a temporary fix with some PTFE tape from a B&Q or plumbing shop (bur that's a guess).

@@DTSquared I think the pipe will have to be replaced. I’ve contacted Dometic so hopefully they’ll help. The pump itself seems good enough.

Hi, I've had the old blue Dometic Gale, which has served well for 5x years. However, I found I needed to jiggle the hose to get to the required 11 psi, so bought the new Dometic Kampa, which came with the spare seal thingy. I used it as a seal between the pump and the hose.
First time of use whacked the awning up no bother, this time would not get above 7.5 psi, just kept cutting out. Initially I thought it was the, equally new Audew power pack I had just purchased, used the car - same thing. Eventually dug the old pump out, after swapping hoses connectors etc, and it read 11 psi 🤷. Swapped back to the new pump 7.5 🤷. Tried the spare seal thingy on the old one, read the same 11 psi. Conclusion; may just need a new pipe for the old pump, and new pump not reading psi correctly 🤔. Any ideas/thoughts, anyone?

Assuming you have the target pressure set correctly. I could be wrong but I think that it is at around about 7psi that the pump swaps mode from volume to pressure delivery. If so then you could have a faulty pump that is not switching modes correctly.

@DTSquared thanks, not sure about the technicalities of what you say, but it worked perfectly last weekend. As I say, the new pump cut out at 7.5 psi, but read 11 psi on the old one. Just arrived on site today, n got everything sorted. Will have another look tomorrow, see if I can fathom what's happening. Could be new pump is faulty, or me being a bit thick🙂

I was offered this pump for my large Zempire Canvas tent as there was no stock of the Zempire Pump. The Dometic pump was unable to pump the tent up, it got to 1.8 psi only and cut out ofter 14min. The connectors were also not a good fit

@swaziau yep, sorry I should have updated this post. I actually had the new pump set at 7.5 😬, the new one works great and have given the old one to a mate.

Not having a deflate option is a real step back in progress. Makes the pump pretty pointless and you'll need a hand pump to get all the air out for a good pack down

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared  4 місяці тому

Kampa's previous mode the Breeze used to have a deflate option but that is no longer available. As far as I'm aware none of the Kampa/Dometic hand pumps have a deflate feature. We haven't found packing due to remaining air to be a major issue providing the awning is folded in the right way (towards the vent valves).
Or Dometic sun canopy WAS a big to pack due to trapped air until I realised that by first rolling/ folding the central beam (it has a T type arrangement of the beams) I could expel all the air and then turn of the isolation valve to stop it going back in. It then folds just as easily as our larger awning.
      Hope that helps
