    I love how Floating Points created a modulated thread throughout this most beautiful and intricate piece. Incredible timing. What a fabulous collaboration with Pharaoh Sanders shortly before his death. I can hear the letting go of life at the end and it is exquisite in every way. It's a masterpiece. I saw it performed live at the Hollywood Bowl with a local LA orchestra with Shabaka Hutchings on sax and I was transported. Thanks for the review, but I think it was provocative and perfect.

    I started watching your reviews around 2020 and you have slowly become my favorite music critic on UA-cam. I rarely agree with your reviews, but they are so well written that they have kept me here. Happy nine year anniversary! Keep up the great work

    Happy ninth anniversary, Mark! I've always liked your videos, but it was really 2019 when I really decided that you were among my favorite music UA-camrs. Even though we tend to disagree on many things, your reviews are always so thought-provoking and full of character. Also, props for introducing me to so many lesser-known and out there artists, some of which ended up among my favorites too. Here's to nine more years!
    As for this album, however, I actually do agree with your take on it. It's a good album that's beautifully orchestrated and has some enthralling moments, but I don't think it's as mind-bending or "iconic" as most people have made it out to be. The Nick Cave and Little Simz albums from last year are similar for me in that they are indeed excellently produced and written, just not memorable or exciting enough to be in my favorites of 2021.

    I'm never in the right headspace to listen to this album, but I know it's considered required listening by tastemakers. I'll have to set aside time when something goes right in my life.

    I've been watching since mid 2017 after i stumbled across your collaborative review of Halsey's 'Hopeless Fountain Kingdom' with ARTV. I've really appreciated how you've expanded your content since then. I've also been watching Billboard Breakdown since early 2018 and I've never missed a week since then. Congratulations on the anniversary!

    I'm so glad you decided to cover this album for the anniversary. Imo it's such a serene genre fusion and the instrumental textures are just so easy to get lost in. I'm honestly so happy that I managed to find it on vinyl

      While I do agree it sounds really good, I just don't get it. Like, it's the same instrumental song over and over again, with only miniscule changes.

      It works in the same way longform ambient music does, where it just slowly progresses and keeps you entranced with how mesmerising and beautiful it is.
      I’d argue too that the changes aren’t really minuscule, going from ambient to heavy saxophone integration to a full orchestra coming in as the mix gets louder does create some really noticeable shifts in tone and sound, but that’s just me!

    This album would be good if it was an actual album and not just one song repeat it over and over again.
    Also, congrats on 9 Years, Mark! Here's to several more! 🥳🥳🥳🥳

      If you honestly think it's just one song over and over again you haven't listened carefully enough. There's so many little intricacies and nuances that it's so much more than one song over and over.

    • @jeremyusreevu237
      @jeremyusreevu237 2 роки тому

      @@BCl137 Ok, so it's not exactly the same, but it's still pretty similar. Don't get me wrong, this song is very pretty to listen to, but when I listen to an album, I want a varied and interesting experience, not the same thing over and over again, but with minor changes. And yes, this is an instrumental album, but look at Klaus Wunderlich's Sound 2000 (which is a very underrated album I highly reccomend checking out). Sound 2000 is also an instrumental album, but each song sounds completely different. Again, not saying this is a bad album, there are certainly worst things to listen to. But in my opinion, a good album should be a series of experiences, not just 1 experience with minor changes.
