  • This video shows how to splice an eye with hardware into both ends of a rope. One side will have a locking brummel splice and the other end will have a triple tuck eye splice. These instructions are only for 5/8" diameter Samson Tenex TEC (Twin End Carrier) 12 strand hollow braid polyester rope. You can buy Tenex TEC rope by the foot from many online rope suppliers including arborist supply sites.

Love your videos. I have watched every single one on tree swings as I prepare to DIY one about 50-60 feet up in the canopy. The respect you give to the trees and your work is extremely admirable. My question: is there somewhere you recommend to get Samson ropes for personal use or do you possibly do customs?

Great video! However, I believe there is a minimum finished length of rope required in order for this double splicing to work? I was making a finished length rope of 7'. I have the LB splice complete and was making the markings for the TTES when I realized the insertions would end up overlapping in the center of the rope. Should have made the rope longer, I know. Any other splice recommendations for finishing the one end for this rope? Thanks.

You are exactly right. 7" is about the minimum finished length that you can do with a locking brummell on one end and a triple tuck eye splice on the other.

Is there a danger to having the angle between the tree and the rope be less than 35-40 degrees?

There's no danger to using a lesser angle, but if you are making a Y swing it may make the rigging ring so low that you can't fit a 3rd spliced leg under the rigging ring.

Is there a reason you don’t use metal cable/rope rather than polyester rope? I know they sell high weight limit metal cable/rope at HD that’s covered by clear plastic/rubber and is flexible enough wrap around a thimble like the rope in your set up. Is there a downside to using something like that?

I've been wondering the same thing, did you ever find an answer?

@@beyondtheillusion333 I went with metal rope wrapped in plastic. Has worked well.
