@@underelspanishsun We were impressed at what great value the underfloor heating quote was and after staying locally in January went for it based on the value for money. There’s a great local guy fitting ours next week. Happy to pass on his details 😊
That’s amazing to hear... what area does he cover? It sounds like you found a great deal, and we’d definitely love to know more if he works near us. Thanks so much for sharing!
What a bargin! The place has so much potential! Can't wait to see what you do with it. About the little storage area, I wonder if it was ever used as an area to hang homemade sausage/salami/cheese/wine - obs not next to the loo!
That’s what we were thinking too!! There are hooks in there so most likely?! And yes we shall share it all with you! We can’t wait to see what happens either haha
That was a good buy, huge outdoor space with a nice view. Personally tho, I would keep the barrier as it is on the upper terrace. Well wishes on your new found home ❤
It’s been a huge decision to make because we don’t want to cut off the view but with our lifestyle a private enclosed outdoor space is always so important to us… probably makes way more sense to keep it as is
Love the house and the view! You must be so happy!❤ Instead of grass in that little area, I would consider creeping thyme. Along with some others herbs like Rosemary and lavender.
Thank you so much!! We really are 🥹 You sound like more of a green thumb than we are so just wondering…. What are your thoughts on planting wildflowers? We have been considering growing bee and butterfly friendly flowers? Because we are already planting herbs elsewhere.
@underelspanishsun I love gardening and nature. And am always reading and learning. Wild Flowers are a good idea. I don't know how hard it is too buy organically grown seeds and plants in Spain. But don't buy regular seeds/plants..because the pesticides/insecticides will kill the bees and other insects. I am still in the proces of searching for the best flowers which thrive in Spain. If I have a list, I will let you know
We will definitely have a photo before and after comparison when it’s all done… unfortunately not enough light in the house to film with our wide lens 😭
The current regulations do not allow the gas bottle indoors you will need to move it to the outside wall in its own little house. Greetings from Malaga Province!
I would suggest having built-in cupboards in your dressing room - particularly if you’re planning to put guests in there on occasion. There is nothing worse than sharing a space with clothes (from a guests’ perspective)!
Guess I've got to know how this turns out now that i watched this!! I like the idea of still having the veiw from the top area, some sort of bifold door situation in the wall that you could open??
Muahaha! Now you’re trapped!! 🤣 We plan to have a large opening through the wall so we can still see some of the view but the way we like to live is always having an indoor/outdoor space so it works for us. I guess it’s a nice feeling for us to have a more “cozy” oasis type of area if that makes sense.
Hello from down the road! Your place looks fab, welcome to the village. Just a couple of thoughts on your renovation. Do you know how much electric you get to your house? You’re planning on lots of appliances. I have 5.5 to mine (which is pretty good for the area, an old rental had 2.2) and the electric tripped yesterday when I tried to turn an electric heather on. Just check that you’ve got enough for what you’ll be needing. The other thing is I can’t see what heating you have. I’m sure you’ve realised by now that it can get cold so some king of heating is essential, preferably not using electric. Anyway, good luck with everything and enjoy!
Hey Claire!!! Thank you so much ☺️☺️ So I don’t know what the electrical is in numbers like you’ve stated but it’s been checked and apparently it’s strong enough? It was just redone last year. As for heating we’ve just installed a split system ☺️ Hope to catch you soon!!
Haha I wish, i just have a mind that goes 10000km an hour so if something exists I have probably thought about it. I had the aircon installation booked before we even arrived in Spain 🤣 I’ve got issues!!
Hi Melbournites! I am also from Melbourne, half Spanish. Now I live in Aguadulce in Almeria, a nice beachside town. Just writing to say that you do not want an electric cooker cause one gas bottle can last over 6 weeks and costs peanuts compared to the electrical bills you might get. That is unless you get solar panels on your roof which can be a good deal nowadays depending on location. An electric oven might be worth it if you want to make cakes and all that but I would just get a top range gas one which will bake your bikkies for cheaper. Good luck with it all....
Hi Mick! Thanks so much for the advice-it’s always great to hear from fellow Melburnians who’ve made the move! Aguadulce sounds like an incredible place to live, especially by the beach. For us, though, we actually don’t have or use an oven, so we’re skipping that entirely. Instead, we’re leaning towards an induction cooktop because it’s so much easier to clean. As a couple in a neurodivergent household, the simpler and faster something is to clean, the better for us! But it’s really helpful to hear your tips about gas and solar-it’s something we’ll keep in mind for the future. Thanks again for the well wishes!
@@underelspanishsun Hiyas, no worries, I just thought I would say cause the electricity bill can go through the roof sometimes. Where I live the landlady sealed the roof with insulation and put solar panels on it a few months ago. Now the electricity is just about free from 10am to 6pm. As far as I know, you could pay nothing for it over the whole year- cause the company pays a certain rate for the excess power produced. I think it could be the best thing to do to a house if you have a good roof. Dunno how much it costs exactly but you could ask because it is subsidized in some places. Succes with the reno!!! Bye for now...
Good luck in your journey from a fellow greek melbournite. I'll be following suit in the new year (Operation GTFO of Melbourne) Would you consider keeping the pool? it would be amazing in summer to sit in there and enjoy that amazing view. Definitely consider taking spanish classes and if the locals ask where you are from, tell them you're from whichever arab country your background is, and tell your husband to tell them he is from Greece.
Oh hello there!! Where are you looking to move to? Lol at operation GTFO of Melb 🤣 The pool is rusty and not in great shape so we definitely want a better one haha And yes once the house is more liveable hopefully we can take some classes and get there. Wishing you the best of luck with all the planning. It’s not easy but very worth it. If you have any questions just let us know ☺️
You dont need to invest money into micro cementing floors ,instead there are paints that will cover the tiles, unless you are going for tieless look.Good job all best ❤
Your comment is so relevant. We are now looking at epoxy too it’s been the topic of the week. We want the floors to not have grout lines etc so unfortunately the paint won’t work..

Can i suggest you get the boiler/water heater for external as i have done in my apartment in italy.the builder incased it in the wall with a door to enclose it ..keeps the eysore out the kitchen
But those wood looking tiles downstairs are so cute it seems a shame to cover them. Edit: having seen the foundation of your outdoor verandah the bricks are very weak & I don't think they would take the weight of the pool you wanted.
@underelspanishsun Yes I thought they were very original. The ones upstairs are not as nice because the colour is awful. Ofcourse everyone has their own style.😊 Watch out about putting too much weight on the verandah outside those bricks for the foundation don't look very solid.
Oh I'm so sorry haha they're not bad and they're in great condition but yeah just not our vibe and if we get the top done would be great to match the house throughout. and yes, good eye!! it seems that way, on the plan to be fixed that brick work.

Hello. Jenny from Adelaide here. How exciting! I've been reading other comments not to bother you with this question but can't find it anywhere. How have you been able to do this permanently visa -wise? Is one of you a Spanish descendent? I ask because I've looked into moving myself and it doesn't seem possible unless I'm a descendent or I have a good income coming in externally from Australia or from being a content creator (which I am not :{. ). All my best wishes to you guys. What a fantastic place you have!!
Hey Jenny!! So I’ll answer as best as I can.. to buy a house you don’t need to be a resident so that answers that… but regarding a visa (which is what we are on, not residents just yet) we fit into the digital nomad visa because our business is graphic design and completely run online servicing Australian clients… but there are many different ones. Here’s an article I wrote that may help… www.reworded.com.au/post/moving-to-spain-from-australia-a-guide-to-long-term-visas
Nothing fundamentally wrong that’s for sure, they’re in great condition too but definitely not our style unfortunately and since we want to call this place home we’re voting for changing it. We’ve seen lots of beautiful Spanish flooring we wish we had but unfortunately this isn’t the vibe for us haha
After seeing your comment we went straight to google however, it seems that there aren't many earthquakes let alone ones that would be large enough to be thought of as a deturent luckily. But it was interesting to look at the data anyway.
I can't tell you how many times I clean it and how many times I then go on to accidentally touch it.. Its asif I have a hobby of ruining a perfectly good video. I apologise haha

Super relevant question. Personally we don’t, we think it looks and feels very special and beautiful. However it is an adjustment on the other hand so for some, it may be a struggle. It does help that Andrew’s a good driver and where we were living in Australia it was an apartment so having a backyard alone is a big step up for us.
@joeyzhang Haha, exactly! It’s all about perspective... what feels like a step down for some can feel like a step up for others. We’re just enjoying the charm of it all and making the most of the experience!
What a bargain, I think you have struck gold with this house! If the front door is solid wood it could be sanded down, stained (if you don't like the natural colour) and oiled at little cost and a little effort, and it would be beautiful again. But... I don't understand your obsession with micro cement. And I get that you would want to have privacy from your neighbours at either side, but you could put up trellis with climbing plants growing on it. And you want to put a cement wall in front of that view from the terrace??? Even if you have a gap so you can see the view - what is wrong with you???🤪 No one behind the property is going to be close enough to see you and if you build the wall at the back it will be like a claustrophobic concrete outdoor room. I think you should see a therapist before you build it. 😂. Having said that, I hope you will be happy in your new home 🙂
Hahahaha I love this comment… look it’s definitely not to everyone’s style but we really love enclosed outdoor spaces they feel nice and cozy. And we have space for an open and somewhat closed area so why not have both you know? Thanks for the note on the door. We sanded it back but unfortunately it seems like it’s very damaged in the front especially at the bottom so we will end up getting a new one in the future at some point.
Good luck with the neighbors, you will need lots and lots of it once the honeymoon ends. Seriously I wish you luck, I’ve been there, done it. Never ever ever again.

Yeah there seems to be a lot of hate towards the English it seems… what we’ve found is that as soon as we say we’re from Australia and from Arab and Greek backgrounds everyone is a little warmer which is sad in general but seems to be what happens. I think it’s because we already speak other languages and it seems that what is not encouraged is only speaking English in general? We’re not too sure haha. And yes between the language transfer app and everyday real life practice it’s slowly getting better but better nevertheless.
some great plans...but barely moved in and already eying off trimming neighbours fig tree? Tread lightly and respectively ..build up to get view rather than obligating neighbour to do so for you. Don't being Australian entitlement to Spain.
haha this is such a good point and we actually saw that our neighbour to the left had built up and thought you know what it's probably not nice to request a tree be cut, afterall its so nice to see so many fruit trees around. Theres some very shitty habits we've picked up from living in Australia our whole lives and we really want them gone... its not us in our core, and it's kind of a gross mentality. Thanks for keeping it real!
@@underelspanishsun love your attitude..lol, not a test...but good things will come your way with such an attitude. I was a town planner and builder in past life so have my fill of 'we deserve the view so will knock those trees or houses down.

@meobligatwitter Thank you so much for the support... it really means a lot to us as we navigate this whole new journey. We appreciate you having our back!
Oh but it says it on the box of the one we bought 😂 but they could just do that for people like me that don’t know the name. What’s it meant to be called?
@@underelspanishsun haha, I wasn't questioning the terminology but the function. The bidet that you have now is basically a mini bathtub for the bottom and front equipment. The seated washer instead is just for target washing and mostly good for people that can't physically have one. It's literally matter of preference and bias of previous use. Not one Italian would be happy to use the one on the toilet LOL -- I live in Hawaii and we are the third family in the entire island to have a bidet like you have now. Por suerte, como trabajamos de forma remota con empresas y clientes en Australia, no es tan importante para nosotros vivir cerca de la ciudad, así que podemos permitirnos elegir un lugar más tranquilo

It’s been a huge decision to make because we don’t want to cut off the view but with our lifestyle a private enclosed outdoor space is always so important to us… probably makes way more sense to keep it as is
Can't wait to see all those improvements, suerte!!!❤
Muchas Gracias! Haha neither can we ☺️
Really enjoyed that. Thanks from Scotland/California.
Oh we’re so glad you did! We were in Scotland last year… so beautiful 🤤
Love the house and the view! You must be so happy!❤ Instead of grass in that little area, I would consider creeping thyme. Along with some others herbs like Rosemary and lavender.
Thank you so much!! We really are 🥹
You sound like more of a green thumb than we are so just wondering….
If I have a list, I will let you know
Oh I had no idea!!! Thanks for letting me know 🥹 we definitely don’t want to kill the bees! Yes please let me know if you have a list!
Completely sold on thee outside space and views - Congrats.
That’s what we thought too!! in Australia this would be a million dollar view if not more 🤣
Thank you so much!
It would be great if your show your place inside from a distance of about 5 feet. And would love to see how you transform your house.
We will definitely have a photo before and after comparison when it’s all done… unfortunately not enough light in the house to film with our wide lens 😭
The current regulations do not allow the gas bottle indoors you will need to move it to the outside wall in its own little house. Greetings from Malaga Province!
Oh it’s not even legal?! Hahaha thank you for this info! That makes our decision a lot easier
I would suggest having built-in cupboards in your dressing room - particularly if you’re planning to put guests in there on occasion. There is nothing worse than sharing a space with clothes (from a guests’ perspective)!
Oh yes that’s the plan 🥳… that’s what was shown in the image but it’s the same colour as the walls so probably not at all clear enough to see.
Guess I've got to know how this turns out now that i watched this!!
I like the idea of still having the veiw from the top area, some sort of bifold door situation in the wall that you could open??
Muahaha! Now you’re trapped!! 🤣
We plan to have a large opening through the wall so we can still see some of the view but the way we like to live is always having an indoor/outdoor space so it works for us. I guess it’s a nice feeling for us to have a more “cozy” oasis type of area if that makes sense.
Definitely goin to need a shaded area
Yeah that’s for sure!! Haha
Thank you so much ☺️☺️
So I don’t know what the electrical is in numbers like you’ve stated but it’s been checked and apparently it’s strong enough? It was just redone last year.
As for heating we’ve just installed a split system ☺️
Hope to catch you soon!!
@ fabulous, sounds like you’re all sorted ☺️
Lol at operation GTFO of Melb 🤣
The pool is rusty and not in great shape so we definitely want a better one haha
And yes once the house is more liveable hopefully we can take some classes and get there.
Oh how exciting, do you have work , or how will you pay bills , This is my dream to buy a little place ,, so I can’t wait to see how it’s done So happy for you both 🤗
Great question!! Jasmine’s business runs remotely, she’s a graphic/web designer so that’s why we’re able to do this.
Could you work remotely?
Hi. You have new subscriber. :) I love your house and I am excited to see how you renovate it. Just a question- why did you decide to leave Australia?
Oh why hello there! So nice to have you ☺️
We’re so excited to see it unfold and to share it so I’m happy to hear you feel the same.
As for why we left Australia, it’s impossible to list all the reasons here haha but we do have a video in the works that gets into it all!
Can i suggest you get the boiler/water heater for external as i have done in my apartment in italy.the builder incased it in the wall with a door to enclose it ..keeps the eysore out the kitchen
This is something our plumber suggested and may just be something we do down the track. Thank you for the advice legend!
But those wood looking tiles downstairs are so cute it seems a shame to cover them.
Edit: having seen the foundation of your outdoor verandah the bricks are very weak & I don't think they would take the weight of the pool you wanted.
Oh you think so? I don’t know it’s just not our style 🥲
@underelspanishsun
Yes I thought they were very original.
The ones upstairs are not as nice because the colour is awful.
Ofcourse everyone has their own style.😊
Watch out about putting too much weight on the verandah outside those bricks for the foundation don't look very solid.
Oh I'm so sorry haha they're not bad and they're in great condition but yeah just not our vibe and if we get the top done would be great to match the house throughout. and yes, good eye!! it seems that way, on the plan to be fixed that brick work.
@@underelspanishsun
That's good you have to be careful about loads on buildings the materials used can't always take the pressure.
Looking forward to seeing what the reformations look like. 👍
@relasing123 Absolutely, you’re so right! We’ll definitely be mindful of the materials and loads during the renovations, it’s such an important consideration. Thank you for pointing that out! We’re excited to share the progress as we move forward with the reformations. Hopefully, it all comes together nicely in the end! 😊👍
In Spanish culture a big fat fly in the house is a good omen.
No way!! We love and believe strongly in superstition so this is a great thing for us to hear. It definitely made itself known and hung around our first week.

Is that in Costa Del Sol? What town is that, Is that area reasonable? Or did you find a gem.
This is montefrio… it’s a smallish town Granada. We’ll have a video out all about montefrio soon enough ☺️ there are plenty of affordable houses here but this was one of a kind in terms of all the area, good bones and a garage.
Montefiore translates as cold mountain😅 however it is a wonderful place full of history
Yes correct! Haha but based on what locals have said… most days the sub is out so fingers crossed
Are you 100% that passage and garaje is yours and not a weird shared property, public concession or something like that? Because it's strange they didn't list it....
Yes it is in the "catastrales" so we were very lucky.
The tile throughout is absolutely gorgeous and not sterile looking like a hospital
I think it would definitely work for some and its in great condition but unfortunately it just isn't our personal taste 😢 sorry to disappoint!
@@underelspanishsun I agree, I’m not sure what people are seeing lol, I would be doing the same. Its not like they’re traditional terracotta or anything.
Appreciate the support! Yes those terracotta ones would have been a dream but the ones in our house are unfortunately far from “timeless” lol
Here’s an article I wrote that may help…

I don't see anything wrong with the floor tiles. Typical Spanish style.

Just curious, as Australians don't you feel bothered by Europe's cramped living spaces, economy cars, tiny parking lots, etc?
Super relevant question. Personally we don’t, we think it looks and feels very special and beautiful. However it is an adjustment on the other hand so for some, it may be a struggle. It does help that Andrew’s a good driver and where we were living in Australia it was an apartment so having a backyard alone is a big step up for us.
@underelspanishsun 😂😂😂
Sorry to hear about your experience. It’s definitely not for everyone…
You can’t leave us hanging like that 😂. What was your experience. Doesn’t mean they will have the same - but interested to know.
Agreed! Haha sounds like there’s a story, or two… or 100 behind that comment
Buenos días...y bienvenidos¡¡¡... pero una pregunta....hablan español?
We’re still learning and at the speed in which everyone here speak, I think it will take us longer than we expected 🤣
Did you buy it for this price recently? Were you looking for long? Bargain!
We purchased in August and we were looking around online for about 6 months ☺️

Keep wine down on the basement.
some great plans...but barely moved in and already eying off trimming neighbours fig tree?
I was a town planner and builder in past life so have my fill of 'we deserve the view so will knock those trees or houses down.

the bidet in the toilet IS NOT a bidet LOL
We had to go through such a special order to have it. When I heard you removing I went whhaaaatt LOLOLOL -- at my next visit to Spain I plan to see that town and that is thanks to you!!
@windrago this is so interesting!!! Haha I love learning new things. And really? I still have no idea how this bidet works and in such a small bathroom it takes so much space that we would much rather a larger shower. I can definitely imagine that this very official bottom cleaner is fairly valuable 🤣
And that’s so exciting! Great to hear that Montefrio is now officially on the list ☺️
