- Assault Suit Leynos (重装機兵レイノス) is a 2015 PS4/PC remake of the Mega Drive run-and-gun mech shooter of the same name. Development was handled by Dracue, the creators of Gunhound EX.
Dracue did an excellent job with this, taking many of the best elements from the various Assault Suit games and bringing them together to create what I’d argue is the most polished entry in the series. They should definitely be proud! Sadly, the same cannot be said of western publisher Rising Star Games. Their PC port lacks full controller support, contains graphical glitches, doesn’t run at a steady 60fps, and is prone to crashing during extended gameplay sessions. Given their track-record with PC ports like Deadly Premonition, I doubt they’ll ever fix these issues.

Such an unexpected remake, such an awesome game.

Bro, I am glad they fleshed out the story of Target earth more in this game even if the Genesis storytelling was great. This is probably my most favorite video game story of all time. Simple yet incredible!

34:00 lol; that was an *amazing* sequence to watch. You don't post as many playthroughs as a lot of UA-camrs, but few come close to meeting the skill, precision, and finesse you present consistently in gameplay. Well worth the wait; here's hoping a video featuring the Saturn's entry into this series is forthcoming as well!
I wish I had an innate talent for video games so I'd be able to get these videos out faster, heh. Unfortunately, my secret is just lots and lots of practice. When you're not providing commentary, quality gameplay is an absolute must.
I like this game
The mini boss of the "Colony Smash" stage seems to be a nod to the boss of the first stage of Assault Suits Valken: a battery that must be destroyed before it is mounted on a ship.
The part in "The Final Conflict" where the player's flagship breaks head on into the enemy base that is located in an asteroid and the name of one of the player's ships: "Versis" also brought me memories of Assault Suits Valken.
Here's hoping Dracue can secure the rights to Assault Suits Leynos 2 and create an english remake of that game. I would like to know that game's story and how it fits with the other Assault Suits games.
If you look close enough, you'll find homages to all the Assault Suit games -- even the obscure Valken 2 RPG. Unfortunately, Dracue shut down two years ago, so I doubt you'll be seeing anything from them ever again.
@@SaturnMemories I have yet to find the homage to the AS Valken 2 RPG, i am still trying to find it. Man, it's sad to know and find out that Dracue was shut down years ago. Their remake of AS Leynos was really good.
I was thinking that we would be seeing a remake of AS Leynos 2 sometime in the near future.
@@RayGarraty1985 The enemy leader appears to be modeled after the one from Valken 2.
That Treasure-esque segmented graphics for the robots don't look so graceful, but otherwise the core game seems faithful to the original. Thanks for HD footage, man.
Yeah, the mechs do look a bit wonky in motion, but overall, it's a good-looking game that plays fantastic.
Love this game, I grew up with Cybernator (Assault Suits Valken), and playing this is like coming home. Especially love the nod to Valken with the "Space Colony Smash" wich is a blend of "Attack on Arc Nova" (outer part after the mines), and the very first mission (inside the colony), complete with the battery as a boss. Absolutely amazing. I also really love the music, a huge step up from the original tracks, especially Lance, Final Battle with Lance, Boss and Sign are tracks I can't stop listening to.
What struck me as wierd is that in that mission you got an A rank, so I'm assuming you can't S-Rank that stage... or perhaps you would need to stall the battery and kill more of the minions as it's being dragged up? Definately gonna spend some time researching this game's details.
Yeah, there are nods to all the AS games here, including the RPG. You can really tell Dracue were big fans. As for the one A-Rank, the only thing I can think of is that I didn't take down the evacuating warship fast enough. But I was going for a no-damage run, so I wasn't particularly aggressive with it.
@@SaturnMemories Found out what it was that cost you S-rank, it's that you needed to destroy more of those turrets while the battery is being pulled up into the airship. I killed about 6-8 and that was enough to S-rank.

I grew up with Target Earth, which this is the remake of. If you can ever get your hands on that on emulator or an actual Genesis cart, I can’t recommend it enough. The original game is still so good to this day.
Target Earth was around way before SNES cybernator is the OG all the rest were inspired from
I just finished this game for the first time about forty minutes ago. (not on the highest difficulty as I wanted a more relaxed experience to begin with)
Reviews of this game seem to be very mixed.
A number of them are about how to configure the controls (but people in reviews and the forum point out which buttons are needed), the lack of a dedicated exit button (esc), or the controls of the assault suit itself such as aiming.
Having played Assault Suit Valken when I was younger (I missed out on Target Earth/Assault Suit Leynos), the controls were quickly recognizable for me. It just took a bit more time to get the reflexes to use them back.
What I sometimes had difficulty with was the more 'bullet hell' type segments when the shield is not always useful.
This game seem like a decent update on those older entries in the series. There are only few things I would like to have been different;
-The jetpack and shield being part of the suit rather than taking equipment slots.
-More levels. The campaign seemed to be over so quickly, I would really liked to have seen more levels on Earth and other planets.
I have been fortunate to encounter only one glitch though during a cutscene in which I could not control my character, it died during a scripted explosion of an enemy as for some reason the character was dragged to it..
I feel like it's an excellent game that got a less-than-stellar PC port. RSG kinda has a reputation for bungling this sorta stuff. It's not terrible, but you're better off playing it on PS4 if you have that option.
@@SaturnMemories What are some of the flaws or bugs the flaws or bugs that the PC version has but that the PS4 version does not?
I just finished the PC version so I am probably not immediately go through it again but I will keep it in mind regarding the PS4 version.
@@TheDutchGhost Several things. PC port tends to crash occasionally for one reason or another. Controller support is kinda wonky. In fact, I remember certain button combinations would result in a crash. A few visual effects are broken. The one I remember the most is the water in the harbor. Watch as mechs interact with the water there. Instead of splashes, you get green rectangles being thrown up into the air, lol. There are also slight frame rate issues that are most noticeable during the introduction to some stages where the camera is automatically panning from left to right.
@@SaturnMemories Yes, I did notice the water but I did not pay much attention to it as I was in the middle of a fight. That was kind of weird.
I have not had the bug yet that pressing more buttons makes the game crash but I will take your word for it.
Now that you mention the camera I should have an eye out for it to see if it indeed also happens when replay the game.
Guess I will be looking for a PS4 copy on Ebay.
I wish there was a collection of the games, maybe even including Assault Suit Valken 2 even though I am not really into tactical strategy games.
Would even be cooler if there was an official fourth game in the series but Dracue as you mentioned in the comment section went bust and I am not sure if there is a big demand for 2D side scrolling mech games.
Have you BTW ever played Metal Warriors for the SNES? While it has no connection whatsoever with the Assault Suit series other than the theme being 2D side scrolling mech game, there was this fan rumor or theory for a while that it was advertised as Assault Suit Gideon.
Have you tried to clear Mission 1 by killing only the main target battleship? (You should have a score of exactly 2800 if done correctly)
Yeah, that's one of the game's achievements, and I have them all. IIRC, it also gets you a bunch of weapons as a reward.
@@SaturnMemories I also remember Assault Suits Valken having a secret weapon unlock via the same method. If you repeated the feat in Mission 2 (leaving you with exactly 5600 points), you unlocked said weapon's upgrade potential.
I have to ask... HTF is your LG-Gun doing so much damage? I've been watching you for damn near 20 min, and its doing like DOUBLE the damage mine does on PC and PS4.
Only thing I can think of is that maybe you're holding the trigger down too long. After a certain point, the spread on the bullets increases which can cause you to miss a lot of shots.

Equip three layers of armor before the start of the mission. Then, yes, remain outside the ship near its bow.
the armor? so it's the armor that we used for revive the player?
Yeah, normally each layer of armor just adds an extra health bar. On that mission though, having three layers will enable you to remain outside the ship without burning up on reentry.

Well, he does still die, but his fate was prolonged further, and you get to see him pull a moment of badass before his inevitable death, unlike his dishonourable explosion in the original timeline.
Rest in peace, Zosaly, you were a bad-ass for saving Earth from destruction.
this runs slow on my new pc AND laptop.

It's not a great port. My specs are similar to yours (i7-7700K, GTX-970, 16GB RAM on Win 8.1) and even in this video, you can see some frames dropping, especially at the beginning of levels. Controller support is kind of a mess too.

@@barrygibson1848 Well, you say you're on a laptop, so make sure to force the game to run from your video card. Also, make sure your laptop is plugged in. If neither of those things work, try some of the usual PC workarounds: compatibility mode, limiting the number or cores/threads the game uses, trying different display options like fullscreen/borderless/windowed, etc.
