For anyone having set-up trouble, if you’re doing it on your iPhone, go to settings > wifi and click the prompt to set up new airport device. Otherwise it can be done on a Mac with airport utility.
Great guide! I’m using an time capsule as a router that was gifted to me by a friend who was no longer using it. I’d like to set it up as my own but I’m worried about running into problems after resetting that will leave me without internet. Is it as simple as what you say in the video? If I hard reset the device can I just follow the setup wizard and be back online without any specific knowledge?
You could maybe get your friend to give you a hand. You can also try and access the Time capsule via the "Airport utility", click through the different pages and write down the config. Also google up time capsule wizard, see if you can find any video's that might be able to walk you through.
@@Repair2Renew I guess what I was trying to ask is will resetting it eliminate the password? As long as there’s no password I could set it up following your guide.
@@freestyla101 Resetting should clear the password. That you can go through new setup. You could follow our guide, or you might find a better one on youtube.
Hello. I just switched over to an orbi mesh system after using time capsule for years as a router . How do I reset the time capsule to use as only a time machine back up for my macs and not as a router ? Thanks v much
Reset the TC, then go through the wizard. Just "add it to an existing network" As long as your time capsule is on the network, and has an IP address, your Mac devices will discover the TC. You will find instructions on the internet to setup TC as well
For someone who needs this info though the video was published three years ago. No, it will not. I have just rest the password following the video's instructions. All my data inside the disk are intact.
Hi there. It is very helpful to me. Thanks a lot. May I get your help to connect my capsule through wifi? My Apple Time Capsule device works as a router device but can't get access to my files. I can use this as a wifi router only. It is not working as a hard disk. My backup files are in it but I cant access those now. What Can I do? Please help. thanks.
When backing up via time capsule I find it more reliable contacting via network cable. I only use the wifi parts for iPads, iPhones, etc I would directly connect your Mac via network cable

So it worked, but for some reason the old network still appears so I’m wondering if it actually reset.
In fact, it only shows on my Mac and it can still connect. Weird…

@@Repair2Renew thanks . Resetting using the reset button ? Wouldn’t that erase the hard drive and my old back ups ? Thanks v much
will this rremovew all the files that r inside
Yes it most likely will.
I have done the video from the perspective, you just bought a second hand time capsule, and you want to wipe it anyway.

It wouldn't reset for me, just turned green after it flashed
I love you thank you so much I fix it following your video lots of appreciations :)
Great to hear! Well done Iris-Beatriz for giving it a go.

@@Repair2Renew Thanks. But through network cable the result is same. I cant access my files.
Will that erase hard drive completely
I am not sure?
Always good to have a separate backup of your mac devices first.
