Cleanup in Swannanoa has slowed down a lot and I fear we won't have tourists visit if it still looks the way it does. It is going to require thousands of people to clean it up and that is just one area!
It pains me to hear people think everything is good from the government, meanwhile people are literally suffering unimaginable losses. I feel so terrible for those affected and wish I could help. I’m in CO, and I listen to yours and other videos daily. You’re all in my prayers
From what I have heard, most of the FEMA response has been in the Asheville area. Surrounding counties were not so lucky. As far as the homeless, my brother, who travels to Asheville a lot, says there are a few in the city area. However, most of them are gone. Here is an interesting fact my brother told me this evening. A friend of his owns a home in Hendersonville. This area was flooded as well, but not much attention has been on them. Her house was flooded including their entire neighborhood. This area was not in the flood plane. She just had her house appraised. It appraised HIGHER than before the flood! The houses in that neighborhood were all damaged. How is it that its worth MORE since the flood? She also applied to FEMA in the very beginning. Once she got her private appraisel, all of a sudden FEMA called her wanting to give her their appraisel. She had not heard from them since she applied to them for help in the 1st week after the flood. They want to buy her property. This entire thing stinks of corruption but nobody seems to be able to pinpoint whats happening. It sure seems like local, state and federal govts along with insurance companies are all colluding together. To what end? Its actually getting more vague.
@realestatemindset I look forward to seeing it. Thank you for all your great work. I know its daunting. But having been through this storm the ONLY way people know the truth is independent channels like yours, getting stories direct from the people here. Yours is the best so far. Permiculture does a great job as well, but he is more about restoration and remediation. The truth is the most important thing right now. But your work IS getting through to people and Im reposting it as well. I cant get out in the field like you can. So I do the next best thing, get your videos out to more people. You think UA-cam is the only place this is being seen. We, your followers are taking your work and spreading the truth.
I live here in Asheville since 1994, if you need an idea of how things are, look up delinquent property taxes for 2024 in Buncombe county. I myself am getting evicted after paying rent on time for 12 years, after being 1 day late on the rent for the first time ever. Well known local contractor too...smdh
Travis when you're able to, you should go back to Yancey County, and check out Mitchell county. Sibelco is located in Spruce Pine. They supply the minerals for everything electric and technology. Spruce Pine lost their waste Management facilities and that were prisons there that have to be closed down. So the water issue is a problem for the residents.
I wish you would speak with someone like myself who lives here in Asheville NC. If you want to hear how bad fema messed up on my application talk to me. I lived in swannanoa and haven’t received any help or funding or anything from fema because they were sending out volunteers to do the agents jobs. I haven’t even gotten any of the $750. I lost everything and haven’t seen any help. You keep talking to these people who have been all over UA-cam and places and have gotten all this help. I don’t even own a jacket that will keep me warm because it was washed away in my home. It’s an absolute joke how I’ve been treated by fema. I haven’t seen anyone talk to anyone that’s actually low income and didn’t have a ton of savings here in Asheville and the surrounding areas.
I admire this guy's positivity but he kind of contradicts himself by saying FEMA did a good job but river cleanup was a grassroots thing (which was not a small undertaking). I suppose being down and negative isn't helpful but I feel he's not grounded in reality. I wosh him and his community all the best and pray for the best.
People in Asheville actually saw the most help from FEMA. Why? Its a liberal city, VERY liberal. You heard him say how almost everybody got a check. When you listen to the others outside of Asheville, Buncomb Co, that story changes drastically.
Your a great person and I greatly appreciate all your videos and opening the publics eye to the devestation from this hurricane and all the hard work on the property tax videos.
Travis, you need to get home and take care of yourself and your family. Your family needs you at home. It’s the holidays and time with your family is priceless. Take care my brother.
