    You forgot to mention the most obvious candidate: Window glass. When you see a broken window, pick up some shards (Don't get cut!). The owner now has less glass to clean up, and you now have some arrowhead fodder.

    • @traporatrick7795
      @traporatrick7795 5 років тому +8

      Most windows are tempered so this wouldn't work since, if you were to try to pick at it, it would shatter into a million pieces :P

    • @doubledarefan
      @doubledarefan 5 років тому +10

      Which would be obvious if the window is broken.
      If you find an unbroken piece of window glass, most tempered glass will have a mark in the corner that says tempered (along with manufacturer info).

      A pressure flaker is a tool though. The fact paleolithic man didn't use nails is irrelevant. A stainless steel axe doesn't magically get called something else just because it's no longer made of stone.

    I flintknapp myself and its such a cool hobby. I knap arrowheads more for show and to make necklaces with. I mostly use glass. Obsidian is the best and easiest to work. This guy knows what hes doing and I would recommend following his directions if you are interested in getting into flintknapping.

    I've done this before! It's so cool when you finish one. I use to go down to the creek and find old beer bottles and clean them, break the bottoms out the same way but with a nail, and then I even had the nail pressure flaker made until I bought a real one. Its really fun

    You should grind steel in a vacuum. Use a ball mill inside a vacuum to grind the iron into a powder, then after a few days, decrease the pressure. (I believe with so much surface area, the iron, left unoxidized, will spontaneously combust when in contact with air) the vacuum is used to delay the oxidation until all steel is ground.
    Note: use high-carbon steel, as it is harder and more likely to become powder

    when I was 11 I found an arrowhead in a creek near my house in Oregon. I brought it to an archeologist, who dated it to an estimated 11,000 years old. I was given permission to keep it, so I still have it today, 5 years later. its made of basalt from an unknown source.

    • @andyaria7100
      @andyaria7100 5 років тому +1

      It wasn’t really a knife more like a sword or club and it was called a maquahuitl and was made usually from oak and had obsidian or flint sticking from the sides. It’s called obsidian stone sometimes but it’s more like a glass and it can get to a molecule thin making it extremely sharp. But it might not be what your talking about.
