Titan skating caused me to exchange two elite controllers because I was running bumper jumper and broke the bumpers. Now I switched it to the paddle and I'm pretty sure the paddle is near death.
yep, i broke 2 scuf paddles. i'm trying now to use the jump button with my faster right thumb to go max in a straight line... then switching to the paddle when in juke range or i need to turn
i just learned that you could effectively use the sword for instant momentum from watching slayer stream speedruns, before i never even thought to try it.
Turner Welborn I have mained titan since I discovered Aegabriel early y1 destiny. I figured out to skate, and I'm SUPER fast now. So many of my friends say, "catapult is better" so I'm like, race me, private matches. I think i always beat them 2x their speed.
If you equip a heavy (sleeper) it actually knocks your agility down to where you're not in the air as long or not jumping as high when you're mid skate. Therefore picking up even more speed
One thing worth mentioning is you can curve the Garrison dodge, which you can't do with Shoulder Charge. So you can use that to "bend" around obstacles and skate out of it.

Wow I can't believe I forgot to address this. Control. Catapult is ok, but can't do 90% of what control can do. Catapult is honestly like a greatly limited control with no noticeable benefit.
This video is neat. I had to kinda fudge and fake it while learning on my own - nobody really took the time to explain much of what was happening during Titan skating (I always had high Agility + Catapult, and as common wisdom has proven, that's simply not a solid setup with Agility's upward momentum and lack of control from Catapult). This was REALLY helpful. Even as someone who plays a ton of Titan, does a TON of Titan skating and has learned a lot of techniques this video taught me so much stuff I didn't know about Titan skating. Going to patrol and private matches to practice it now :)
as a ps4 player claw feels very terrible with l2 and r2 to aim and shoot. I aim and shoot with l1 and r1 and it feels pretty good. but xbone remote is great for claw, always has been since the xbox 360!
Adding the sparrow boosting with better control + bones of eao is just a little slower, if not just as fast, as titan skating. Plus the uphill climbing you mentioned
Why are you stuck in the idea that the titan is specifically a tank class and a warlock is not? The class types have relatively little to do with their roles. It's just easier to stop assuming that just because a titan looks bigger that it would have more health. Don't assume that, it's not the reality.
Never seen this before tonight in a crucible match. As a hunter, I started an encounter with a shotgunning Titan but I bailed out because he was going to win and started sprinting across the map. I noticed he was keeping up and heard the sound of his jump, he fired three shotgun shots in the middle of doing this about 4 seconds apart each and managed to kill me by the time we got to the end of the map. I was completely flabbergasted, there was no where to hide and didn't know what to do but keep running. As my first encounter with this, I'm sure I missed a way out of the situation. But the annoying part was that while I got nearly far enough ahead to escape, I was still within a tiny range of his shotgun and him firing it didn't slow him down. I might consider this broken.
I've never been able to skate using shoulder charge, I've always just used Garrison. But I also play mostly sunbreaker and defender on Titan, so Garrison is the only way to do it.
Switching to jumper is worth it. It may take a long time to get used to be in the long run being able to look around while jumping is too useful to pass up (without learning to play claw or buying scuf/elite controller)
Great video slayer but there is something I would like to say that is kind of a tip , mashing with your pointer finger is not that difficult, I personally find it very difficult to mash the LB or RB buttons or whatever the button is when playing. What I do to claw mash is flex your elbow, and then what you want to do is kind of jitter your finger rather than actually moving it. That probably wasn't explained the best but if you happen to understand that, then I would also like to say that mashing the A button truly does take practice and don't get worried that you can't press it as fast as you would like to, just keep working on it. Also when going in a completely straight line, example being Crota's End Abyss once you lose weight of darkness, mashing A is the best thing that you can do, at a certain point the timing of it does not matter and it as all the A button, I am good at skating so that is not just me saying that but great video. You could get an elite controller. I can't play without my paddles on the back, they let me do almost all the actions at once without moving any fingers... so helpful.
I learned this during House of Wolves and it has been something that I've used to res people in dangerous situations to even winning me Trials Matches. I main Defender. Shoulder Charge is not available on Defender, If I use Defender,Twilight Garrison is a frowned upon exotic opposed to the Helm of Saint-14 so I have to use that and it is the main reason I main Defender. I've used my bubble in Trials to wipe out an enemy team in Trials which was funny since I've gotten them to waste 2 of theirs, 1 self res and 1 blade dance, I melee'd the Blade Dancer and lmg'd the self res only to beat their last Titan with my fist for camping my 2 friends. They were laughing and say we lost as the watched me taunt in my bubble.
Something that can help with movement while skating would be a controller with additional buttons like a scuf of xbox one elite controller because it doesnt take your thumbs off the sticks while jumping. That obviously costs money though, and if you dont want to spend $150 on a controller then learning a new button scheme would be best
If you are a PS4 player and want to use L1 as jump but play puppeteer on destiny, If you stay on Puppeteer but go into the PS4 Accessability settings to set your L1 button as X
I've been playing claw since halo 3 was released… (Idk how much time that is). And I really recommend you do! It's hard the first week to stay accurate while clawing but you get better overtime. Now I cannot move my thumb from the right stick anymore, I scratch my nose with my left hand, it's just muscle memory at this point.
On the subject of button layouts: personally, I just used the setting on my ps4 to switch r1 with X. Meaning I jump with r1 and melee with X (talk hoc still gives me control of the right stick while jumping). Personally I found this to be most comfortable and effective, so hopefully this helps some other people out there.

Never invest in Agility unless you're trying to get through Crota's End solo and wish to cheese past certain parts by being able to jump just ever so slightly higher than with low Agility. There is no point in the game where high Agility is actually useful outside of that instance. Higher Agility only increases your Sprint (not basic run speed, but actual Sprint) speed and jump height, and both of those increases are so minor as to be negligible. Regarding Sprint, the difference is so small that you'd have to have a large distance of uninterrupted Sprint to be able to see a difference, and even in that case, your Jump modification will provide more forward speed than Sprint does. Agility is a stat that probably needs adjustment from Bungie before it even holds a candle to Armor or Recovery. Sort of makes the Hunter's stat focus on Agility kind of pointless, too. I still can't figure out why there are so many people that do Recovery/Agility builds considering Agility does basically nothing.
SneakySpai I just explained how Agility does almost nothing at all, and you're going to still come back and say it does something useful. It doesn't. Does it increase jump height and sprint speed? Sure, technically. Is that increase worth it? Not at all, because of what you give up to get it and how minuscule that increase actually is.

Wouldn't that be impractical in Crucible though? It would be pretty awkward if you were to just Sonic zoom past every enemy in Trials' and end up falling off the map because you're going too fast. Obviously that won't always happen but what if you go top fast and hit a wall or sharp object the environment/momentum kills you. So many awkward questions 😂

There is something similar you can do with hunters. Equip better control. If you want to go even faster put on fleet footed on blade dancer. Bones of eao for even faster and just mash the button for speed and time it for less speed and more height
my recommendation for people that don't uses scuf, switch the X button with R3 button, because the R3 button at Destiny are totally useless(interact character) so u can look around and while jumping :D
i have been skating for a while (since the end of year 1) and i have to say that although it might be advantageous to use jumper, it can break quite a few left bumpers. I have unfortunately broken two controllers already. both because of my left bumper falling out from overuse. titan problems... :(
You missed the arguably most important thing for going fast; Using the terrain to gain momentum, you need to gain forward momentum and keep it to gain speed from lift. Also, mashing jump can only get you so fast and sprinting limits your top speed.
I’ve played jumper since halo 3 and I found it easier to skate in d1 playing default layout. I can mash A with my thumb faster than my pointer on the bumper that’s just me tho lol

Ive always played default for the benefit of speed, and Ive gotten pretty good at turning and even aiming while pressing x (not using claw)

In a race of pure foot speed, the hunter wins almost every time, unless the hunter has minimum agility and the titan has max

One thing I definitely learned is the timing has to be spot on.
I've been playing claw since Halo 3, so for me, it's just comfortable. I can see why you wouldn't want to though, it's a bit hard to get used to

instead of playing claw or using jumper you can try playing streach which is when you stretch your left thumb to the right analog stick

There is something similar you can do with hunters. Equip better control. If you want to go even faster put on fleet footed on blade dancer. Bones of eao for even faster and just mash the button for speed and time it for less speed and more height
my recommendation for people that don't uses scuf, switch the X button with R3 button, because the R3 button at Destiny are totally useless(interact character) so u can look around and while jumping :D

i have been skating for a while (since the end of year 1) and i have to say that although it might be advantageous to use jumper, it can break quite a few left bumpers. I have unfortunately broken two controllers already. both because of my left bumper falling out from overuse. titan problems... :(

You missed the arguably most important thing for going fast; Using the terrain to gain momentum, you need to gain forward momentum and keep it to gain speed from lift. Also, mashing jump can only get you so fast and sprinting limits your top speed.

I’ve played jumper since halo 3 and I found it easier to skate in d1 playing default layout. I can mash A with my thumb faster than my pointer on the bumper that’s just me tho lol
