David’s height is recorded as ~5’6, so he is quite short, and Rebecca’s recorded height is ~5ft so if you do the maths based on their relative height, then her being around david’s shoulder height works with her being around 5ft, which means that while she is short, she isn’t massively short. Especially as the average female height in Japan is around 5ft. However by 2077, the average height would likely have increased so I’d say she is short, David is short, and Maine is just fucking massive at 7’4.5
I'm glad I watched this dubbed. I don't speak Japanese, but I watch enough anime to know the subs aren't matching up the the dialogue. In fact, they are an almost perfect match to the English dialogue, they have nothing to do with what's being said in Japanese.
Well, japanese version is a lot milder and this applies to the game as well. However japanese is more expressive so for me watching with subs was more enjoyable.
I watched half in sub and the other in dub(wanted to finish the show with a friend who had it) it comes down to personal preference on certain shows but in general i think sub and dub are good when the voice actors are good
The English dub has a better script but the Japanese dub is very good too. You lose out a lot from the Japanese though because they just completely cut out the future slang and certain things like David's mom being Latina and referring to him as carino or mijo is just taken out too.
Beginning of the series: OMG, Rebecca is such a lovable goof. Going to love watching her throughout the show. End of the series: *Hello Darkness my old friend...*
I think it also depends on how the script is written. From the clip I've seen, the dialogue seems more natural in English than in Japanese, especially the humour being more Western. We also don't need any knowledge in Japanese culture since the setting is in the US
First of all, this really struck home for me how memorable the English voice acting is. Like her voice was phenomenal, I could literally hear it in my head while watching this scene and I've only seen the show once. Second, I feel like this scene puts the loli thing to bed. She might be short with a cute face, but she's clearly drawn with the body of an adult woman.
@@zerotsolar9742 the English dub was great. I usually watch all my anime in subbed but for cyberpunk I felt it deserved the English dub due to it's more western themes. And wow, Rebecca's English VA was great and so distinct. I honestly preferred the English voice for Rebecca over the Japanese.

Honestly the JP dub is perfectly fine. Characters are expressive and appropriate as you'd expect from a professional production like Trigger. The issue lies with the script. I'm not sure why they decided that in order to translate all the future slang and other stuff like David's mom calling him mijo/carino that they'd just NOT have it at all. Yes, it would confuse a Japanese viewer but either they'd get it from context or they could just do a 1 sec google search. Anyway, the English voices are also perfectly fine. I'd even go so far as to say they're very good with the one exception being imo Giancarlo Esposito. He's not BAD and he's generally an amazing actor but for some reason he isn't really talking like he normally does in this and it comes off weird. Like he's trying to force an American accent or something. Anyway I don't think you could go wrong with either Eng or JP but I've been recommending everyone go with English just cause I feel those script flourishes bring a lot to the world building. It's way more memorable to hear Rebecca say "choom" to everyone rather than her just not say anything at all
In japanese you have some slangs and jokes that are not moved or cannot be translated to dub and vice versa.
