I think the Preds are the best option for the Leafs. If saros can play that many games in a season and still give a same sample size he could still get it done in the playoffs. They just lacked the scoring. Like you said. It’ll be a match made in Heaven.
Make this trade happen.
Saros with a little add one. For Marner. Treliving wants to put his finger prints on this team. This trade would do it. And show they aren’t kidding around. Changes needed to be done. 3 years ago. Saros does make a lot of sense. And Marner does make a lot of sense for the Preds. Nashville is a great city to live in. No pressure. He could maybe be the next C of the Preds. Make it his team.
Marner has been my fav player in this era. Pressure I think may be a little too much for him in TO. New start. I still think he had a little untapped skill in him. Maybe Preds can find that. It’ll certainly be different without a 16MM on the Leafs.
The Marner for Saros deal should have been made 4 years ago when Marner was crying in the penalty box against Montreal. No NMC to get in the way. I find it highly unlikely Mitch “were sorta like gods” Marner will wave his NMC

no one ever notices or mentions the big event this year. Nylander obvious elite skill, but Matthews a surprise 3rd (and Willie 4th) in all star skills behind McD and McK, they returned with new confidence in being COMPLETE players, so not want to be one getting fed passes and the other feeding. Matty with Domi is a more complete player - which he CAN be, but Willie needs his own center (Stephenson, Petterson, Jenner, Lindholm) and his own line - but not Holmberg!!. Mitch and Johnny are a match... = 3 lines. No team is that deep.
Mitch is from Markham and loves being a Leaf. He's also a top 15-20 forward and is young/in his prime. Leafs will mostly likely resign him long term. Tavares with 1 year remaining is much more likely the player dealt to shake things up. Yes NTC, but he might accept a deal to DET, BUF, OTT, etc, northeast teams close to home.

That’s a great opinion and all but there’s more value for Marner than Tavares. He should have the C stripped and given a minor deal to free up cap space.
It's possible. But I think there's just no way they sign him long term. Tavares is less likely since he's not signing an 8 year deal on his next contract. So can't even really hold that against him. With Tavares you just suck it up and get him to take a serious pay cut on his next deal or let him walk.
With Marner it's just messier. There's way more value in a trade with him, he'll want the big money an 8th year can get him, and he's not taking a pay cut. They need to lose Marner and Tavares' overwhelming cap hits. Just losing Tavares and paying Matthews/Marner/Nylander almost 35 million for the long term isn't going to work.
Change has to come.

95 points gone from your team and your top PK guy and the only leaf on the #1 unit in every situation. That will be missed and the leafs overall points total will be effected. They can get Saros but he won't be scoring in the playoffs because that's been the issue. Jarnkrok 5goals in over 90 playoff games. JT had 1 goal last playoffs. The defense has nobody that is a goal scoring threat from the point with a big shot.

It would be really silly to trade a top 10 all around scorer to keep him. The numbers arent lying.
He wont accept less than Nylander. He wouldnt the last time.
Forcing the leafs to let him play out his last contract year and going to free agency is a large gamble for him too. Other teams look at that kind of stuff.
He would be far better off accepting a trade to a team of his choice that wants him and rip it up in a contract year and get paid.
And the best part is he has a large say in where he's going.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have destroyed many a career. They dont have to destroy his. This could be an oppotunity.
I'm presently watching my home town team trying to get to the final. Believe me he would be incredible down here. Star Power... And he's a 2 hour flight from home. The Panthers have 19 million in Cap space and could trade for him now. Nothing is going to happen till the Cup is won.

So what's the deal with the massive "signing bonuses" year after year & the 'salary' being so low? what purpose does that serve?
I don't think the defence this year at the playoffs was the issue. The goal tending was pretty good, these were low scoring games, although Sammy does let in a bad goal near every playoff game and in the regular season he's inconsistent and they have to move on.
The real issue in the Boston series was their "power play"! That series would look so much different right now if they connected anywhere near the same on the PP as they did in the regular season!
They need a stud quarterback on the blue line and new PP coaching. If the Leafs become the kind of team we all know they will under Berube, and they deal with the PP, we'll finally get somewhere!

@@mike8099mthe core is not the issue never has been its the players they have surrounded them with each and every year add in bad goaltending which really was the issue all year thanks to Samsonov the problem will always be the players they surround them with if they keep wasting cap space on old and broken players that don't contribute and also lack of structure Keefe was a good all coach it doesn't translate into a good nhl coach he made the team a one trick pony and he got out coached each and every playoffs stop wasting money on players like Matt Murray I'm pretty sure for 5.5 million you can go out and get a half decent goalie trade off Yarnkrok Kampf liljegren go get a defenseman or 2 for some of the remaining 13 million stop shuffling the line up everytime a line looses a shift make them play together stop referring to the top lines as the core 4 make it about the Toronto Maple Leafs instead of being about 4 5 guys that's how you build animosity
Jesse Soros & C Colton Sissons for Marner from Nashville. Colton can eat up Marner's PK minutes. 1.7 hits per game. 1.7 shots per game. 16 minutes TOI, 53.6% career in the face-off circle. 6'1" 200lbs, only $2.86M cap hit with 2 years left on contract. (15 goals this year - 9 goals even strength, 3 PPG, 3 SHG) Solid Bottom Six Center but I think he plays 2nd Unit PP & 1st Unit PK for the Preds. He can probably play 2nd line center if needed in a pinch.

Yes, the contract for Marner, after July first is less than 1 million for the season so the team getting him, would be off the hook for actually paying Marner much, so that should be worth something. I've been saying that all year, so like trading him to Buffalo or Arizona now Ohio would be beneficial for those teams getting him. another thing is a elite goalie goes for a second round draft pick in trade deadline but a 90 point player will go for three first rounders. Marner, for Soros, is so heavily favoring Nashville. This is why they are so excited talking about getting Marner. For many years other teams were using the media to get better deals from TO but now Internet I can say no as much as I can

In my opinion, if Marner was to be traded to Nashville, I would prefer to get Yaroslav Askarov, who I believe is the best goalie in the AHL and is really young and up and coming. Getting Saros is a lot of risk because he can just walk after his contract is done can’t he? Perhaps getting a package like sissons, askarov and picks for Marner at 50% sounds good.
Askarov is Nashville's future - right now. They'll trade Saros.
Do the preds have a D man that could help the Leafs to might be able to help in both spots a goalie and a D man in a 3 or 4 player deal

Nashville could be good for him. I think he would benefit playing for a team with less of a spotlight on him all the time. He obviously hates the Toronto media, no way it didn't affect him negatively.
Saros - Marner trade would be awesome! But the Leafs still needs a elit Dman on the blue line. Brodin would fit like a glove according to me!
I’m not giving up a bunch for Marner. He is a ghost when it matters. But the biggest knock is he will want a raise next year.
How does having 50 playoff points in 57 playoff games equate to him disappear when it matters most especially when the rest of the team is just as plain or worse every year when you can't rely on your goalie to make saves it takes away from being able to go forward and scoring goals when you can't rely on your 3rd or 4th line to do anything other then go out and skate up and down the ice it put all the pressure on 6 players out of 21 I don't blame Marner or Nylander for any of the past playoff failures I blame the GM and the coach

After trading Gretzky, the Oilers went on to win the Cup. After trading Lindros, Colorado got a boat load of great talent including Peter Forsberg and went on to win a cup. Matthews would bring in a motherload for Leafs. There is merit in trading superstar players.
Either trade both or just Mitch. Keeping Mitch is a mistake. He’s not that good.

I think your biggest problem is over evaluating the trade value of Toronto players.
Reilly would never waive, Nashville wouldn’t accept. Stephenson is a free agent and Marner is worth more than that

Marner and when J.T contract ends we’ll have more cap space to add extra D or Goalie; if we don’t make the playoffs then it’s useless anyway, we still need Marner to make the playoffs
Tavares’ money is already spent with the Nylander extension. The Leafs can and will make the playoffs without Mitch.

How does a guy who has 50 points in 57 playoff games get a rep for being a poor playoff performer? Only with hordes of brain-dead Leaf fans. The Leafs will miss his creativity and Matthews will never score as many goals without some of Marner's set ups. Good luck trying to make the playoffs with 1 scoring line.
lol. Matthews scored 37 goals in 68 games with Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson as his wingers. He’ll be fine.
Matthews scored at a 64 goal pace in the final 19 games playing with Domi. He doesn’t need Mitch.
The Leafs won’t be a 1 scoring line after trading Mitch. They will get assets back, and cap space to improve the roster. I don’t understand why Mitch fanboys are so dumb.

This is the same fan base that considers Tie Domi a legend and has been begging the team to acquire his 50 point a season son Max that no other team wants.
I dont think Marner is the true issue, The issue is four 8 figure contracts on the books. Id propose a radical thought of trading Tavares to a bottom feeder, who then buys him out (10.4M Year 1, 300k year 2) and then he signs back on a sweetheart deal opening up 11 million. This would of course cost a 1st rounder ++ but it could work.. despite being an expensive out..

The Leafs didn’t have four 8 figure contracts, they had three. Nylander’s extension just replaces JT. Extending Mitch is extremely stupid.
