    Everything else aside: Can we talk about how good that Custom Shop Maybach Albatroz looks and sounds? SG body shape really suits that aged metallic green finish.

      It sounds like the intonation is a bit wonky to me. Also seems like it's a bit prone to flexing while you're playing.
      I may be a bit inclined to be harsh because I used to think SGs were one of the coolest guitars ever but every time I try to play one something about the design just makes them really uncomfortable to play. I know that it shouldn't be that different from a Les Paul, but it feels like I'm playing a broomstick attached to a chopping board and I don't like it.

    An interesting thing I heard/learned recently is that way back when, at least in the Americas where I’m from, advertising used to be done with the focus and goal of helping you make an informed decision as a consumer. That changed over time to companies selling you a lifestyle, feeing, or unspoken promises (if I buy this drink, it will improve my life and make me like the happy guy in the video, with lots of friends and smiles, like the guy in the advert). I think the former is what you do well, Collin. And I wonder if good UA-camrs’ reviews are creating a return to that thinking and ethos largely.

    I'll say this, I've been a fan of yours for a while, and agree with your methodology in approaching a new piece of gear. I appreciate the level of detail you provide when discussing a new guitar, amp, or pedal, and understand why you would want to be able to collect your thoughts before stepping in front of the camera. However, as you so eloquently described... there is the sniffing glue factor of living vicariously through someone else opening a piece of gear. Plus, in this video, I really enjoyed seeing your first time reactions to the amp. Maybe a hybrid type video would work, where you give a quick first look at the beginning of the video, giving basic first impressions of the packaging, build quality, etc., then a proper review like you usually do. However, that's just one viewer's opinion. Keep doing what you're doing Colin, I'll be excitedly watching no matter what

    I have an HT Stage 60 MKII 1x12 and I love the thing. I can get every genre out of it from Sabbath to Animals as Leaders. I don't even bother breaking out the DOD death metal or Boss metal zone anymore, just my MXR chorus. I also haven't used the full 60w mode since I bought it. 6w is plenty. Somehow Blackstar amps are louder than their wattage would suggest. I've owned 60w Crate amps that I could barely hear over a drummer, my Stage 60 can easily drown a drummer out. Its even louder than my 80's vintage Peavey Special 130. And that's saying something.

    I live in Nicaragua, and you can't find most things in here, neither music gear, tech stuff, camera things or else. Iin my case, I have to spend a bit extra money so I can ship anything I want to buy from outside. For example, a $180 guitar ends up arround $300 to make it to my place.
    So I really prefer to see a review of someone who has spend a lot of time with any product I'm thinking on buying, cuz if i don't "pick right", I have to find a way to sell the thing and just wait a few months again until the new thing arrives.
    Sure, unboxings help me to find out what im suppoused to get from the package (It's common here to recieve an opened package with missing things) but in the end, I would rather know what to expect from a new toy once the excitement is gone and you get to see for yourself the pros and cons.
    So thank you so much for investing your time and honest reviews for people like me!! Huge hug, blessings!

    I applaud you Colin! There's only a few guitar creators that I actually follow nowadays, precisely because of this tendency to just go and show *insert shiny new thing here*, rather than focusing on what can you actually do to enrich your musical journey through the gear. In my opinion there is frankly too much to choose from and musicians get wrapped up in the consumerism of it all too easily as a crutch and a distraction from what is important in the first place. It is terribly disappointing to see creators, good creators with massive production and entertainment value, get sucked in the cycle of unboxing a guitar, pedal, synth, etc. and then just throw in a couple of riffs or a terribly rushed and mediocre instrumental and call it a day. Whats the point? If I'd wanted to see ads non stop then I would just subscribe to the official brands channels. I get it from an economical stand point, but there's a reason why brand channels don't gather the same attention as actual musical creators.

    • @EnterJustice
      @EnterJustice 9 місяців тому +1

      The point of it is that sweet, sweet sponsor money.
      It's so sad... I get that UA-camrs spend (and spent) a lot of time on their channel - making content, building a viewership base and want to get compensated for the effort that goes into that. But many are simultaneously ruining what was good about their channel in the first place.
      Once your bills are getting paid by brands, you become less trustworthy. Same goes for UA-cam, too - but at least UA-cam isn't trying to sell me gear.
      HarryAndAGuitar is one of those creators that handled things pretty well. He started doing simple bedroom covers, and still is to some extent. Except now he's pointing out all of the sweet gear he's using in the video - gear that's undoubtedly part of a sponsorship deal. At least he's making an effort to keep his content good and as uninfluenced by the sponsors as possible. But still, there's this feeling that I'm being sold a product when watching his vids.
      Bottom line we can't expect creators to upload high-quality content regularly, but also expect they aren't getting paid in some way for it.

    • @diegoxxxbc
      @diegoxxxbc 9 місяців тому

      @@EnterJustice I realize I might have sounded jaded in the OP but I think my main gripe is with massive channels with massive audiences (for the particular niche of guitar content at least) that almost seem exclusively ad repositories now. I recently unsubscribed form that-channel-with-the-beards and also that-channel-with-the-fish because, for lack of a better word, their content became soulless.

    I'm a giant fan of the Blackstar HT20MKII combo. It's my main amp. It sounds incredible.
    This HT Venue sounds like shit. It could be the mic placement, but on the first OD channel, there was a fuzz like clipping in the low-mids that just ruined the gain structure and on the high gain channel, there was absolutely no variance in the peaks and valleys in the gain saturation which tells me there's a hefty amount of solid state circuitry in the pre-amp for additional gain staging instead of tube saturation.
    While I know the HT20MKII has solid state clipping in the preamp as well, it's nowhere close the amount it sounds like this MKIII Venue is using. I'm sure this amp is for someone, but IMO, it's a bad amp.

    Frankly, I think all guitar/amp demo videos are a waste of time. By the time you're done throwing a bunch of OD on it, and it gets compressed to shit by UA-cam, and comes out your (probably shitty) speakers, all subtle tonal nuances are lost. Every time I watch a guitar demo, I think: "Yep... that certainly sounds like a distorted guitar", and that's all you can really say about it. And you can't really tell what an amp sounds like unless you're in the room with it.

      "you can't really tell what an amp sounds like unless you're in the room with it." - Which is precisely why reviews ARE important and not a waste of time. The person reviewing the amp HAS been in the room with it and is specifically telling you about that experience.

      @CSGuitars I appreciate that, but still, a distorted amp in a YT video sounds the same as every other distorted amp in a YT video.
