Wasn't planning to get this, but I kinda like it. I like the head A LOT. Body looks like it's made out of chocolate sausages... not that there's anything wrong with that.
Looks awesome. Will likely also be great for Marvel Legends as Groot's size probably changes from comic to comic and artist to artist. Diamond Select always does great with their larger figures, and even when the articulation isn't great you can appreciate them for their girth and stature for the same 20 to 25 dollar price point.
He looks great in the package. I sometimes wish I could open toys before I get a chance to sit down and review them. It's like I'm a MOC collector until it's time to review, heh. Can't wait to crack him open though.
In retrospect, the only "big" character I remember Select no doing so hot with were The Thing and Abomination, both mainly for articulaftion but the Thing slightly more so in having too large proportions.
ThatGuy CalledPhil I agree with you on the articulation but I still love both figures, and the Thing is drawn sometimes with wanky proportions like that, I actually like that look personally
I get it. Plus there isn't as many options as the hulk has, like a dozen decent ones by Toybiz. The Thing to My Memory only has one decent SA version and one from either wave one or two that was basically a larger, more impressive version of their old 5 inch figures. Granted, there was Also Hasbro's offering which was honestly one of the best of their early run on legends.
I'm more of an old school FF fan so I need a Thing that is 6 inches tall, tops, and broad as hell. Trunks and not a lot of muscle definition. Just a rock wall with limbs and a head. I do have the MS Thing and Abomination though and totally agree. They don't move too great but they are beautiful to look at.
By those standards the select one is pretty much perfect from a aesthetic view aside from having the pants with boots. Neither of the two Toybiz would likely do it for you, though the first mold does Look cool it a tad small. The second one has muscle definition though and is a little bleh on the sculpt of the head but not horrible The Hasbro one has the same definition problem as Toybiz second attempt, but his head is actually tiny looking at pics of it and is the shortest Thing in that scale. This one may be perfect for you to track down, as long as you can tolerate slight action features that the Classic line often has. bravefortress.com/gallery/fantastic-four-classics-toybiz/
Cool review! I think he might also look cool as a random character in a fantasy display. Thought of doing a scene with maybe He-Man or someone fighting a couple of these guys.
After getting into the series several years back I'm trying to build up all the versions of this team, marvel legends box set for classic comic, marvel select for modern/cartoon look and figuarts for the movie. For £80 total for the 4 I think the line is pretty great, if imperfect. Great review dude
Thank you for the review! I was on the fence about buying this one. It looked great, but passed selects have taught me that looks can be deceiving. Sure enough though it's amazing. I just received mine today! Loving it!
Looks pretty good! Like I said, these big Selects are what really do it for me. I just got Destroyer in last week, wow, man! You were right, very solid!
Isn't it nice? I can't believe how much I love that thing. In fact, it hasn't even made it to the toy room yet, it's still on the bedroom dresser, haha.
Now, lets get to customizing that Starlord, I really want to see what you can do with it. Love this Groot figure, I think I'm going to get these figures and of course I'll be customizing my Starlord because I have this image picture in my mind of what he could look like with some repainting and modding.
Ok, now I'm shaken. I was going to skip this Groot and pick up Drax and Gamora/Rocket from this wave, since I have the entertainment earth exclusive Groot, but now I starting to consider picking him up as well. By the way, awesome review as always, Robo. You're certainly my favorite reviewer.
Thanks man, I appreciate that! In my opinion, this blows the Hasbro Groot away, especially if you're doing a comic display. And if you're getting the other, might as well round it out with this.
Pretty cool indeed, can't wait for the rest of these. How do you intend to fix the loose joints on Starlord?? Really like your reviews because they are very honest!
The old method is to use superglue and keep moving the joint as it dries, try to keep it from locking up. Now the preferred method is to use Future floor wax. It doesn't lock the joint up but adds some thickness to tighten the joint.
Today I actually went to my local Disney Store to try and pic these guys up and they didn't have a dam thing. It hurt me a little deep down, I can't lie. Good review though man.
Are these up on Disney yet? I want to say they are only up on Marvel at the moment and then will make their way to Disney, but I don't have a Disney store anywhere near me so I don't know how that usually works.
The Fwoosh Yeah apparently I saw the shipping availability date on the Disney site as being the 27th. Which was correct, but I took it as it would be available in store as well. I think I was going more off of pure excitement and a little bit of faith. But yeah it ain't there yet. *Sigh*. I should order online but I'm a paint app cherry picker.
Robo, you did it. you made me want this figure number one. number 2, i didn't even want a guardians of the galaxy action figure EVER. now i do. so now i have to order groot, rocket and gamora. would prefer starlord in his uniform, any clue if it is coming out? Marvel select has officially become my new favorite...is there a star wars select?
I'm liking this version of Groot over the legend GOTG. Definitely gonna pick it up with Drax and Gamora-Rocket Raccoon 2pack. As for Starlord I'll wait and get the GOTG volume 2 version and Yondu. I'm anxious to see your reviews for Gamora-Rocket Raccoon & Drax :)
Drax may wait until after Gamora/Rocket get here, haha, need to see how Rocket sizes up here! I have a feeling if you get the ML Star-Lord it won't fit with Gamora and Drax though.
Yeah I thought of that usually select are abit bigger than legends. idk if Gamora is taller than Angela who I just bought last night I doubt she is but I think she should be shorter than Starlord so I'll wait til I see your review on Gamora & Rocket Raccoon to see how they would fit in. Those select Drax & Groot may work well in a legends Gotg team display
I love this figure, but to me, this isn't a Groot figure. To me, this doesn't look like any Groot from the comics, cartoon, or movies. This reminds me more of Liam Neeson's monster from the film A Monster Calls… which I am totally cool with. I love that movie!
Well they have monopoly on the toy market. Playmates with all their faults, are the last company who makes classic action figure lines with playsets and vehicles.
The head is indeed a little reptilian. It remembers the silurian race from Doctor Who. The body, though, seems weird, not like vines all over, but sausages or... maggots. Ew.
Haven't gotten him yet, should be today or tomorrow. For some reason Marvel Shop sent out all of the figures separately within a week of each other. So weird.
Wasn't planning to get this, but I kinda like it. I like the head A LOT. Body looks like it's made out of chocolate sausages... not that there's anything wrong with that.
Are you taking the high road? Poop. He looks like poop.
I always take the high road so I don't step on any chocolate sausages.

Toy Galaxy lol
Haha, maybe next time I'll get less flack if I call a figure I don't like a "piece of chocolate sausage"...

Diamond Select always does great with their larger figures, and even when the articulation isn't great you can appreciate them for their girth and stature for the same 20 to 25 dollar price point.
Oh yeah, if Gamora or Drax doesn't pan out this Groot can totally go on the comic display.
Great review, looking forward to the Drax review most of all!
He looks great in the package. I sometimes wish I could open toys before I get a chance to sit down and review them. It's like I'm a MOC collector until it's time to review, heh. Can't wait to crack him open though.

Oh, I have all of them offered by both Hasbro and Toy Biz, and while a couple of them get close they just don't do it for me.
Cool review! I think he might also look cool as a random character in a fantasy display. Thought of doing a scene with maybe He-Man or someone fighting a couple of these guys.

those eyes!
very emotive for a walking tree.
Thank you for the review! I was on the fence about buying this one. It looked great, but passed selects have taught me that looks can be deceiving. Sure enough though it's amazing. I just received mine today! Loving it!
Glad you dig it! Yeah, I've had the same experience in the past. Heck, with this set, Star-Lord not being that great. But the rest so far, soooo good.
Looks pretty good! Like I said, these big Selects are what really do it for me. I just got Destroyer in last week, wow, man! You were right, very solid!

Same here, something makes me love this Groot, yeah I had to buy it and I still love it!!!
This figure looks groot!
Oooooooohhhhh, I get it! I wish I had thought of that. May steal that for the wrap-up.
All good news! I can't wait for mine to show up in the mail box!
You should be VERY happy!
Now, lets get to customizing that Starlord, I really want to see what you can do with it. Love this Groot figure, I think I'm going to get these figures and of course I'll be customizing my Starlord because I have this image picture in my mind of what he could look like with some repainting and modding.
Oh, because of Groot I'm definitely going to putting Star-Lord under some floor wax and seeing if some range can be modified.
thanks for this review, must have ...man glad i subscribed, love the reviews and news appreciate ya
And I appreciate the sub, glad you enjoy the videos!
Getting all of my guardians in the next couple weeks
Good review, already gonna get it but more excited for it now
Ok, now I'm shaken. I was going to skip this Groot and pick up Drax and Gamora/Rocket from this wave, since I have the entertainment earth exclusive Groot, but now I starting to consider picking him up as well.

I'm glad you like groot. I knew there would
Be redemption
Haha, yeah, the anger passed and Groot brought me back around.
The Fwoosh glad to hear it.
Thanks for the great review, ordering my Groot now.
You should be happy with it, great piece.
Can't wait to get mine in the mail
Groot is great. Not much bigger than the legends one from the ee 5 pack and had great sculpt paint and even good Articulation
Yup yup and yup, I like this one on the comic shelf all around, buh bye old ML Groot!
This looks Great!!!
It really, REALLY surprised me.
Maybe since I can't find the ToysRUs exclusive Legends Groot. I'll go with the select. Thanks for reviewing this.
I feel like it won't quite work for a movie Groot but hey, Groot is Groot.
Pretty cool indeed, can't wait for the rest of these. How do you intend to fix the loose joints on Starlord?? Really like your reviews because they are very honest!

I love Grooooooot!!! I really hope Rocket is slam dunk...please!
He's my biggie now. If Rocket is good then Drax and Gamora is gravy. And Star-Lord can sit off in the background...
That's a really great Groot! 👌
Today I actually went to my local Disney Store to try and pic these guys up and they didn't have a dam thing. It hurt me a little deep down, I can't lie. Good review though man.

***** Do you know when they might be in stores?
Sometime this month.
Great review, wonderful figure
Groot and star lord look great together
Yeah, Groot really balanced out my hate for Star-Lord. Can't wait to see the team together.
do the cyclops swap with the spider uk body mold
I think that's where I'm leaning, should look pretty good.
Great video, i recommend picking up the marvel select juggernaut
Have u did a video on Mezco dawn of justice superman ?
Naw, I only just now bought my first Mezco and it's Punisher.
Not really into Selects but you may have convinced me!
It really is nice, I swear, haha.
Damn I can't wait for this movie, new trailer just dropped too!
Yup, I can't wait, I want to see it now.
He looks like raw beef, but brown
When are these coming to the Disney store? And is it too late to get the 25% off?
I've heard people say April or May, and the other 25% off coupon expired Sunday.
Robo, you did it.
you made me want this figure number one.
number 2, i didn't even want a guardians of the galaxy action figure EVER.
now i do.
so now i have to order groot, rocket and gamora.
would prefer starlord in his uniform, any clue if it is coming out?

Great review man
Thanks!
There's something a little naked about him with the root body look. I guess I'm just use to the movie look with a few top plates.
I can see that. The plates are good at simulating covering, while the root look, yeah. Still pretty awesome though.
+The Fwoosh very. Mine are waiting at home for me
una excelente figura de groot del cómic
I love this figure, but to me, this isn't a Groot figure. To me, this doesn't look like any Groot from the comics, cartoon, or movies. This reminds me more of Liam Neeson's monster from the film A Monster Calls… which I am totally cool with. I love that movie!
Thanks for the nice review :D
No problem, glad you liked it!
Awesome Groot.
It really is, I'm loving it.
Cool figure
I prefer the "harsh" review. It's more real if your pissed I'm not as pissed if I buy it because I'll be expecting it
iNsaneMilesy agreed! Hasbro and Mattel are the worst offenders in my opinion
Well they have monopoly on the toy market. Playmates with all their faults, are the last company who makes classic action figure lines with playsets and vehicles.
Thanks for the review !
took me awhile why you see a lizard in his face. Godzilla....
Awesome figure for a $20 figure. Love the video.
It really is. Thanks!
groot side by sides?
Are in the comparison section of the review, towards the end.
Is this a Disney Store exclusive?
Disney Store and Marvel Shop.
Will you review Gamora too?
Where i can find these?
They are available on both the Marvel Shop and Disney Store websites.
The Fwoosh cause in italian i can' t find them
What did u guys think of the new trailer?
The movie can't come out fast enough.
i agree :)
Okay
We are Groot.
His left forearm is longer than his right, But bet people would just pass it off...
Hmm, I'm not seeing that. On mine the left has a little more sculpt hanging over the hand on the front but the forearm itself is the same length.
robo r u into power rangers
Not much, it came on the air when I was in my "gotta start a band" phase and was living on couches and cars. Never got into it.
marvel legends its restricted to a certain number of articulation points.
*Select
Yeah, I know, but what they do with that certain number makes all the difference.
The Fwoosh True.
The head is indeed a little reptilian. It remembers the silurian race from Doctor Who. The body, though, seems weird, not like vines all over, but sausages or... maggots. Ew.
That's it! That was driving me nuts, haha.
I wish he looked more like he was made out of wood and less like poo.
I keep hearing that but I just don't see it, for whatever reason. Crazy.
do rocket please
Haven't gotten him yet, should be today or tomorrow. For some reason Marvel Shop sent out all of the figures separately within a week of each other. So weird.
That pattern looks more like brainmatter than wood. Not a fan
i am groot
WE are Groot!
1hourlate721stview, I was also the 720th, and 17th comment.
took me awhile why you see a lizard in his face. Godzilla....
Aha! Maybe that's it.
