The artist is at the mercy of a bigger name and comercialized record label like Sony, Atlantic or RCA, etc. and thus loses a great deal of say as to creativity and artistry because of a much greater pay check. If you've ever heard of Adele's first cd entitled "19" and to compare it to her last cd "25" you'll hear that they are TOTALLY different types of music and artistry, in which she simply SOLD-OUT due to her wanting to get a much greater pay check. Such a shame, she did well on her own when she was simply an Independent artist. Her earliest cd is the BEST, in my honest opinion. Bottom line, Mayer Hawthorne knows who he is and isn't willing to sacrifice his artistry and creativity and independence for $$$$. He's the real deal, it's ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC.

I will safely assume that you didn't pick up Hawthorne's EP "Party of One" where this video surfaced, during 2016. Nor the Tuxedo Remixes record, or the 2 "radio recording" records. Nor the new Tuxedo EP, also released in 2016 called "Fux with the Tux". And that you aren't aware that Tuxedo has a new full-length studio record coming out on March 24th, 2017... literally just 3 weeks less than 1 year since Hawthorne's last solo record. Tuxedo "II" will include 11 new songs. So when you are tired of all the music you've missed, you can still check out his other, other band, Jaded Incorporated. They released their first record in 2014. Do you have the Australian import, "A Strange Arrangement Instrumentals"? Or the boxed set of 45's he released in 2012 that earned him his first Grammy nomination? Or his iTunes-only record called "iTunes Session"? Or his direct-to-disc "#1" which comes in colored white vinyl (no CD or digital)? Or his 10" vinyl called "Morning Becomes Eclectic"? I don't know what annoys me more. Someone who claims they've "played the last several into the ground". Or someone who is rude for asking a rather uninformed question. Seriously, what more could you ask for? This guy puts out music CONSTANTLY. And you do realize that Hawthorne's sphere of influence rests in Motown soul, R&B and... disco?
