  • This is the Sears Lockstitch Child Sewing machine model 49 19741. I'll unbox the toy sewing machine and show you all the parts and pieces. I'll show you how to thread the machine and how to wind the bobbin. I'll show you some troubleshooting tips to get this machine working. At the end, I'll give you the positives and negatives of this machine and give my final verdict of whether I think this is a useful sewing machine for a child and what I would suggest to get for a child learning to sew. #craftcoreDIY
Let me know if you have this machine too!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this tutorial! I have had a vintage 70's singer which is more or less exactly this same machine and I could never quite figure it out. I bought it second hand and thought if I ever actually cared enough to get it working I could see how interested I was in sewing without investing in an expensive machine. I have been able to use this model to make a bunch of masks and there is no way I would have been able to do it without this video!!!

TY. I picked up a boxed one at Goodwill. Your video showed me how to use it. I am going to make it past the learning curve as I only want it to sew a straight seam for a craft project.

Thanks so much! I kind of worried about expressing my opinion about child sewing machines on a video showcasing one so I'm glad it was well recieved!
It turns out the sound inside the machine was just a bobbin rolling around, phew!!
      Thanks for watching! ❤️

Thank you for your video. I have a like machine haven't tried to use it. The bobbin case looks like old Singer vibrating shuttle.

I can not see where you are placing the thread into the bobbin tension spring..that one end is closed..the way you went so how does it go under it?

Update: Actually, now that I thought about it a little more, she probably has the little spring on the thread spool as a guide for threading the bobbin evenly. But can't find the bobbins. Anybody know where to get these?

I just picked up one of these machines today (I’ve never had a sewing machine before and was looking for a cheap machine and I got this one for $25). I asked the lady I purchased it from if it had all of its pieces and she said yes, but after watching this video I now know that I do not have a bobbin case, bobbins, or the hand crank. Any idea where I could get a bobbin case and some bobbins that will work with this machine? Or did I just waste $25? :(

It looks like Singer Touch and Sew.

It does look exactly like the Little Singer Touch and Sew, same design and bobbin, just different color scheme. Mine has a switch instead of a foot pedal, and in addition to the battery compartment you could use an adapter and plug into the wall.

There’s something wrong with my battery compartment-the batteries dance. Does anybody know the size of the AC adapter?

Owned this sewing machine in about 1977 as a kid. Actually still have it. (Mom kept it to sew little things at a cottage she would spend summers at when I was much older. She actually made curtains with it!) My mom passed away and this was among her things. The little plastic bobbins are nowhere to be found. Just the bobbin case. She does have a little, super tight spring she stored on the thread spool. I am guessing she used it as a make shift bobbin? (She was very clever!). Does anybody know where I could find the original bobbins???

That's amazing! Thank you for sharing your story!
That's too bad about the missing bobbins. I'm hoping someone who stumbles upon this video will have some ideas!
I took a look on thingiverse ( www.thingiverse.com/search?q=Bobbin&dwh=555d71b79a4a689) for 3D printing plans, but no luck. 😭 My local library has a 3D printer but without plans I'm not sure how.

Hello!!!! I went to a thrift store yesterday and bought not this on but the model number is 49- 12106 I believe and I’ve searched for it but I was only able to see your video. Thank you Jesus for your video because my god this was hard to bobbing the thread Jesus I was about to throw it out the front door 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I watched your video until I got it 👉🏾 well kinda. When I bought it it already had a bobbin almost full . I was glad but for some reason I can’t get it to bob the thread on so my question is can I do it by hand and put it in the spot it’s suppose to go in ? Lord please say yes 😂😂😂😂😂 #TIREDOFTEYINGTO MAKE IT WORK thanks for everything. I wish I had to ac adapter to this as well but I can’t find it to buy 😭😭😭😭

Very good, I like your concise instructions (No endless typical feminine CRAP that has nothing to do with the subject in hand) I am thinking of buying the Singer version of this machine but even though its an old style flying boat shuttle it is badly made and not even having a simple tensioner to spread the windings of the bobbin is a STUPID design fault, I love the shape of it and the "novelty" value but as you say, poor bobbin construction and no proper thread winding tensioner and no stitch length knob does make it a pain for a child, but for £5 quid on ebay (if I get it) its worth it for its rarity and novelty value I think, thanks, A man viewer of these vids!!! amateursewing
