I just want to say that the last few months have been so much better because you're back. You're filling my days and nights with super high quality music that on its own bring back great memories, but done with such excellence that I can't help but show it off to anyone that will listen. Thank you.
Hello, thank you for this comment. I would be interested to know how you discovered this video. It's several years old by now, and I think a lot of my original viewers still don't know I have been uploading again. Thank you for being so supportive. Best wishes
@@Verdegrand I felt like listening to some good piano music and just searched Verdegrand out of memory, and went into the Chrono and Xenogears playlist while working. My ears perked up when I heard a song I hadn't heard before. =) I have listened to you and Zohar a lot in my past. Please do a video of Secret of the Forest if and when you have time!
@@briankuo1319 Ah, I see. Thanks for letting me know. I suppose a lot more people might still find that I came back a while ago. Secret of the Forest is one of my favorite tracks, I'll make sure to play it at some point. Thank you for being here and for being supportive!
@@Verdegrand How about it then? Heheh :P I've been thinking a lot of you recently. My digital piano broke down and I'm getting it repaired to hopefully get another year out of it. I will have to hunt for a new one eventually. I'm kinda worried/scared I can't find a good enough replacement.
@@w0pke Hey, good to see you again, and thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. Ah that sucks that you have trouble with your digital piano. I am worried myself that a well configured piano won't be easily replaced. Although, looking at the new models, the pianos seem to have come a long way. The hassle is really finding one with a good key action, and then configuring it so that it feels good to you. It's a bit of work but definitely worth it if you spend a lot of time with it. Good luck with getting it fixed though! As for Secret of the Forest, my hands are still not where I'd like them to be in order to play this piece, but I'm still working on it. Thank you for your comment, best wishes! Oh and if you're interested, feel free to join my Discord server if you use Discord, the link is in the info tab. Cheers!
Even if this is the first thing you uploaded when you came back to UA-cam, it's still a master piece. I never really had any strong feelings about this song, but your arrangement gives it so much emotion. Sadness, dread, despair, longing. Very fitting if you think how it must have been for Balthesar stuck in the future, desperately trying to get back but in the end unable to do so. I guess there's no sheet music for this one, is there?
This arrangement is so perfect for use with the Piano. What brilliance this is. I can't thank you enough for presenting this to the world. This beautiful song I've loved for decades, but now enjoyed even more so by viewing someone so talented play it all by themselves with a single instrument. It's so human and otherworldly at the same time. Love it. Love you. Thank you.
Beautiful arrangement as usual. I didn't realize this one was composed by Uematsu despite being one of my favorites. In my mind this one always sounded like a prequel to "The Dead Sea" from Chrono Cross, so I assumed they were both composed by Mitsuda.
Thank you. Yeah that's a logical connection I would agree with, love that piece as well. I think the fact that several composers got together made a big difference in how the overall soundtrack ended up being like.
It's not only because of the beauty of your arrangements and playing that I'm so pleased to see you return. As an injured pianist myself who has also made a return to playing, on an empathic level it's been incredibly heartening to see you come back from a place where playing again was not at one time a certain prospect. Welcome back.
Thank you for this comment! It's rare to hear from pianists in a similar situation and I'm happy to hear you could relate to my current circumstances. How have you been holding up? As I've said elsewhere, my hands themselves haven't gotten better yet but I consider it only a matter of time at this point. Healing and recovery are powerful, deep things.
@@Verdegrand Oh yes, I hadn't taken this as a sign of full recovery, but to play again is quite a feeling, and to know that things are looking up. I'm not sure my forearms have recovered at all. Some days the pain and weakness is as bad as it was back in 2013, but I've learned and continue to learn to move and play in non-injurious ways, which has afforded me a range and level of ability I thought was lost.
I see. I found that in these situation, the mental side of things plays a significant role, in my case more so than in others I assume, but in general as well. The act of making the decision to play regardless is very powerful, but only if you truly believe in it. People tried to force it on me but I wouldn't listen. When I started to actually truly want to do it, it made a big difference. Who knows, perhaps as time goes by, you might find that you see things differently and that things change that you wouldn't have thought could change. I am certain that if there's a way, it has to involve walking down this path, even if only for a limited time!
Oh yes, I agree that mentality plays a role, in one form or another, and in sometimes unexpected ways. I am not pessimistic about my outcome, to be sure. My recovery doesn't necessitate physical healing (this was a staggering and wonderful realization), as long as I continue to improve my kinesthetic awareness and adapt my movements accordingly. This is very specific to me, of course. I don't know what your condition is, but it is good to see that you're also on the path you require to recover as well.
You know you have a real gift when you can consistently make someone love songs they’ve never heard before. You’ve introduced me to a lot of new music in general. And I’m so happy to see you back and doing so well. PS: That Zelda medley you did was AMAZING. A Link to the Past was the first Zelda game I played as a kid, and your playing had me moved to tears.
Thank you so much! I remember your comments from earlier, great to hear from you again. It's so nice to know that people find out about new music from my videos, because in this community, there is a strong tendency to only watch videos/listen to music from franchises that the viewers already know. So this is a really great compliment for me, thank you very much!
It's been a while since I've last listened to this one. It's nice to hear it again with fresh ears. I remember the moment I saw your announcement video in my subscription feed, how surprised and excited I was. Such a great arrangement, definitely among favorites.
Thank you, makes me happy to know that that moment meant was like that to you. Interesting that you would reaffirm that you like this video. For me it was the other way around. Coming back to this, I didn't like this too much anymore, might actually rerecord this at some point.
Well, everyone is their own harshest critic, right? I think it has a lot to do with previous connection you have with the source material. It's not just a pretty piece of piano music, the music has meaning because its connected to those memories you have of playing the game. And if that music in then expanded upon in a way that feels both novel and true to the source, as you do with the beautiful counterpoint you add and the structure of the piece, that's really special and more impactful than the sum of its parts. It's like the Symphonic Fantasies and Symphonic Odysseys concerts, that I love for the same reason.
Ah I understand what you mean. Thank you again. You're mostly talking about the arrangement while I was thinking of the video and the recording itself. But you are right with what you say about the nostalgia elements. It's been a while ever since I was at one of those concerts. I've also wanted to go to a Benyamin Nuss concert again for the longest time but there's always something that comes up and won't allow me to go. Do you remember how special that stuff was in 2009? Going to Cologne was a special experience for me and I have fond memories of it.
2009 was the first Symphonic Fantasies, I missed that. My first one was Symphonic Odysseys in 2011 and then Fantasies in 2012. But I remember very much how special it was. I have distinct memories of "weather effect" sounds in the secret of mana medley, or the little hand bells in the finale of the Lost Odyssey Suite. Truly special experiences that the recordings just can't do justice. Also meeting Mitsuda and having him sign my "Sailing to the World" sheet music book was great! You mentioning Nuss made me look him up and realize that there's a new video game music album coming and a concert in cologne the end of march! Such a happy coincidence. I'll be purchasing tickets later today!
Nice experiences. I must admit I missed out on everything that came after 2009. Listened to a few recordings on UA-cam but was not at the concerts anymore. I do remember the effects in Secret of Mana, and the percussion player in the Chrono suite. Yes, the signings were so great! I got a few things signed too. Good times. I have to look up the upcoming concerts, perhaps I can finally go to one of them again.
I'll never be able to explain HOW you can do what you do, but I really like that downward bassline from 1:15 to 1:17... very impactful (it's my favorite part). The entire piece/arrangement was majestical and you will always have a fan in me, with support. I thank you for all that you do and have done... and I'll always be around, and will send you a pm in time (my apologies). Thank you for reading! I hope you're doing great, brother!
So good to hear from you, I was wondering how you were doing. I'm doing OK, making decent progress overall, it's just a lengthy process and will take time. But I am still in good spirits about everything despite the issues I face. Looking forward to hearing from you, and no worries, take your time. Thank you for your comment.
Yeah this track stands out because of that. What I like about that is, in the original track the time signature doesn't stand out negatively in any way. That's pretty nice when a piece is built like that but you won't instantly hear it, IMO.
This is a very beautiful piece and one of my favorites of the game. It's one of those pieces I loved since the first time I heard it and its mystical sound has always captivated me. Thank you for this. I seem to have fallen into a slump where I'm not communicating with people as much as I used to anymore and need to rise above my... stuff. Actions speak louder than words... I need to prove my actions alongside my words. You're awesome and thanks for this upload. It's much appreciated. I also apologize for my lack of communication. Please know that it has nothing to do with you. Thank you for this upload. Very beautiful.
Thank you very much. I remember the captivating feel as well. Special moment in the game, too! Very dark and tragic but at the same time uplifting, too? Chrono Trigger plays with the emotions sometimes. And don't worry about the other stuff, I can relate and understand.
I always enjoy the multiple voices you bring out in your arrangements and they enhance/amplify the emotions of the original score. A very impressive ability that you have that I truly enjoy. This song has always been unique to me because there's really nothing like it. You describe it well... dark, tragic, uplifting and mysterious too I think. Also thanks for your understanding. I just left a short pm on your FB with a link of me playing something unlisted. Please read it when you have time. Have a great day.

Yeah I know the Consouls, they're really good and underrated. Been enjoying their videos for a long time.
