this video
In sunny weather it has to be one of the nicest ferry trips anywhere.
And in bad weather, it’s the worst anywhere
Very nice video of Cook straits..travelled from Picton to Wellington....
Nice video but just so you know the ferry you were on is the Kaitaki. You can see the name behind the ship's bridge at 16:25 at the top of the screen. The Aratere has a double funnel where as the Kaitaki has one and I have been on the Kaitaki. Look them up and you can tell them apart. You were lucky with the weather apart it not being sunny. Yes the Cook strait can get pretty rough sometimes.
Another awesome video thank you :-) I did the journey the other way, North to South. On the Ferry there was a Junior All Blacks team & they performed the HAKA out on the open deck for us all, amazing. Such a great country & lovely people. Thank you for reminding me of wonderful memories
Used to work with a woman, who remembered the land where the Wellington airport is now coming up out of the water during a earthquake.
I'm positive you were actually on the ferry "Kaitaki", not "Aratere":
1. "Kaitaki" has a single centrally-placed funnel and the stern-facing glassed-in area, "Aratere" has twin funnels on either side of the upper vehicle deck
2. "Aratere" doesn't have bow doors as she is a rail ferry, "Kaitaki" has bow doors
3. "Kaitaki" is the departing ferry with "Check-in" status listed on the Departures/Arrivals board at 2:18
4. "Aratere" doesn't have a Deck 7 🙂
Glad to see you had a calm and enjoyable crossing!
Lovely video, mind you that is not the Aratere, it is the Kaitaki.
Beautiful video of a beautiful journey, despite the rainy crossing. Thanks!
All the things were perfect. Weather and scenes excellent. All the Best. Waiting for the next video
One of the best train trips video's I've watched in ages
Thanks for the great video. I did that journey many years ago, and your video has now made me want to do it again.
exterior shots on the stern /funnel and interior in glass viewing deck are not the DEV Aratere ...but are kaitaki ex irish ferries dublin holyhead "isle of innisfree '......but its a great upload
Such a great video .. Thank u for giving us the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of nature
Waiting for watching. Love from Bangladesh.
That's a great video. New Zealand is such a beautiful place.
Que passeio espetacular! Muito obrigada!
You’re obviously not a New Zealander? It’s not normal at all, to have rain in summer here but this was a particularly wet season for parts of nz. Especially the southern parts of both islands. Thanks for an enjoyable journey.
The series is beautifully photographed. Just a shame about the weather. And those women yabering on the Picton train.
Love ❤😘 from India for your loving video series.
Great video footage of your journey what a beautiful country atb
These ferries can carry trains and a like. Kiwi rail regally use that capability to ship locos to different parts of the country.(4.21)
Only on the aratere since the Arahura has gone
Wow, New Zeeland is so beatiful to discover :)
Happy memories of about 750 crossings of the Cook Strait during my time as 1st Engineer and Chief Engineer of DEV Arahura and what is now Kaiarahi (first sailed on Kaiarahi in 2011, when she was called Norman Trader, again in 2014 when she was Stena Alegra and chartered to interislander, and finally, in 2015, when she was Kaiarahi) As somebody else has pointed out, this crossing was on Kaitaki, not Aratere
Immer wieder sehr schön die Videos Danke fürs Mitnehmen 👌🤗
Enjoying your NZ journeys from a NZers point of view. Good news for you...there have been no nasty viruses caught by livestock crossing the straight.
Really wonderful
For those less interested watching the vessel surf the waves, instead wishing to surf the internet and wondering if there is internet on board: Yes there is wifi. Last time I made the trip about 1 1/2 year ago, it was even free. However, as it's based on terrestrial mobile radio, and given the distance to both coasts, expect weak conditions during the middle 20 % of the route. Best would be to try and make any late hotel booking arrangements during the first or last 40 % of the trip...
Very interesting film.We like
Watched all the 3parts. Excellent. Great. Beautiful. Now waiting for part 4. Plz. share info on the gear and software used.
Frumos video Excelent Felicitări Domnule Bravo ❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄Succes

Foarte frumos imi place Natura ☆salutări din România 🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩
Just a quick question, how did you do check in?
Did they scan your pass or just gave you let you in ??
As I heard they don’t even check the boarding pass 🤐😂
Great content! Are you still working on Part 10 of your Trans Siberian Railway series?
I’m pretty certain the Aratere does have a rail deck, but yeah, not for passenger cars unless they’re headed to maintenance
My mistake, that was Kaitaki, the only vessel with no rail deck if my memory serves correct
It's so interesting. Maybe you can try too Indonesian railway from Palembang (Sumatra island) to Banyuwangi (Java island). It maybe has same experience like from south to north island
Nice video!
You missed out, there are also rooms you can rent which is a cabin on board with a bed etc. Your own private space.
badass
Wonderful video. 👍 Adding this journey to my bucket list. ✅
Hoping Australia and New Zealand reach an agreement for international travel so I can get to NZ later this year. 🤞🏽
It’s the Kaitaki Ferry
Tåg Simrishamn ystad
Shot Island is climate and even forrest like in Estonia ( North Europa )

Aa "dead cat" microphone shield will vastly improve your sound quality outdoors.
This I's not Aratere
This ship is kaitaki
Nice video. But the music detracts from the overall experience
Grüße aus Köln Germany 👋
Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo Bravo 🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝felicitări nice video 🎥🎥🎥🎥nice music my frends 💿💿💿💿sînteți mereu aproape de mine ok ⛴⛴⛴⛴
We were waiting for an elevator to go up the Empire State building in NYC but got mobbed by a bunch of tourists. The lift attendant told us to wait and he would come straight back down to collect us which he did. He apologized for the rudeness of the other tourists and he said they were Germans and all the same - the rudest tourists he comes across in his job.
MUTE the annoying music and the video is quite good.
Nice video however invest in a sound sock or similar for your outdoors shots. Its very irritating. With all your travelling around the world I'm sure you can afford 0ne
I thought Scottish weather could be bad.
I understand about tourists being an annoyance, but you cannot discount the loads of money they bring into NZ's economy. It only stands to reason that they took the risk of being stranded away from home when they embarked from their home countries before the lockdowns.
And there are many more nationalities that visit our country. Personally I don't think there was a need to mention a certain one in the video.
Some person labelled me xenophobic for my comments in one of your earlier videos.
This one shows several times over how yours has ratcheted up. Just another know-all Septic-Tank.
I find it ironic he criticizes the virus spreading between livestock on the ship His backward country with its barbaric wet markets pose a lot bigger threat His sometimes snide remarks comparing NZ to other countries are extremely annoying
another silent movie
Great Videos you made, but can it be that you are not a big Fan of German tourists.........
Schlepp all your luggage? :D WTF btw. the music in my opinion is very repetative thus annoying and very loud.
Poor animals, sitting at the dock in tight conditions without food and water, another two hours crossing the strait, another long wait to unload and sit and wait on the Wellington side. By the time the creatures get to where they are destined, they are already half dead.
I got upset at seeing them in the trucks when boarding too. The time when humans stop animal exploitation will be good for us as a species, but good especially for the poor helpless animals.
Wrong boat name haha
