- Опубліковано 29 сер 2024
- David Gates, founding member of Bread, guests on BBC TV's 'Glen Campbell Music Show', performing live versions of "Everything I Own" and "Part-Time Love", along with a medley of his songs, duetting with the host. The other song that David performed on the show ("Playin' On My Guitar") does not appear in this edited edition and survives in audio form only...
80 years old and still married to his high school sweetheart!
It says a lot about his character.
Awesome voice, it is inexcusable that David Gates and Bread are not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Green Day is in that shows its a fraud D.G. is better than 90% that are in
Exactly ! It is terrible that they are not in the music hall of fame! They easily qualify !
Now that is Inexcusable, considering some of the Talentless Trash that are on there.
AGREED!!!
Timeless kind of music, just the kind you need to listen to when you are in the mood of dreaming awake.
For anyone who doesn't know, "I would give everything I own" is about his father. Gates wrote it after his dad passed.
did not know that, thank you for sharing that knowledge.... I would do the same to have my parents back again
Who's listen this precious songs in 2020?
with 2.3 thousand likes, a lot
Me.. Always
Me Always❤
In 2024 just like I did in the 70's. My heart swooning, lol.
Other people used the song and got Oscars!
As i grew up in the 60’s and 70’s this music from david g. And bread were such a comfort to me.. and yes even today as i turn 71 this year... what heaven sent comfort, to a sick and tired world. Their music still hits the sweet spot of my heart.
71 2020 me too
Me encanta este dúo.
Recuerdos inolvidables de la mejor etapa de mi vida.
Gracias por compartir esta maravillosa colección.
Pamela Ruth Lee. Beautiful music from David Gates. Precious memories for me and pierce. ❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊😅😊
David Gates is phenomenal. A superb songwriter, singer, guitarist.
I have to add...Glenn's version of 'If' at the end of this clip is astounding. His emotive connection and soulfulness is just so immersive. You fall into this rendition.
this guy writes the most incredible songs and has the sweetest voice, those days are gone, thank goodness we have these videos
David Gates had one of the best musical voices in the 20th Century!
Bobby Lewis so did Campbell
Ryan C Excellent reply!
You are so right Bobby.
You're 100% right about that. Very clear and emotive singing voice. It's a shame that many youngsters don't know about these legends. I play these songs for my children so they will know what great talent really is.
I was iin the 10th grade in 1970, and this is the first music I every fell in love with on the radio. I was in the orchestra at school, and I feel that David Gates' music has the quality to last forever like Bach or Mozart. There is no comparison to the beauty or feelings invoked by this man's talent. David is a gorgeous man with a beautiful personality and limitless talent. I listen to his music every night as I fall asleep just as I did when I was 16 years old. I am now 66 years old, and I love and appreciate him and his talent more each day that I live. I hope his music continues to permeate my soul even after I pass to the other side, because his music is the closest thing to heaven I can imagine. THANK YOU DAVID FOR SHARING YOUR WONDERFUL TALENT WITH THE WORLD. Linda H.
I entered 10th grade in September of 1970 so we were both living in an era of great music. The 1970's was indeed special time. What wonderful words you wrote about both David & Glen. Both extremely talented.
I was 6. First grade I think.
David Foster and Emelio Morriconi
Also Jimmy Webb
Well said
Your never hear this quality again. We've screwed ourselves today with technology. No one's creative anymore. Thank God for memories and videos like this.
I understand how you feel; cuz I'm a '73 model and the experience of this special period, was one of only a couple "religeous" ones...the other is Star Wars. There is however, a healthy creative music scene: One must do some looking around to hear the other...scenes--------like try on some Tame Impala, or Blockhead, or Kacey Musgraves.
Technology is not the problem. It's a tool to do marvelous things like this young man does, for example: ua-cam.com/video/VPLCk-FTVvw/v-deo.html
@@stevevukich8958 Check out Ashley Campbell.
Don't lose hope. There are many creative people out there doing great work. There is just a lot more interference and bad non-creative content out to weed through. Peace. \m/
I have to respectfully disagree
A time when we had REAL music!!!
I was born 1990 but I love to listen to this kind of music, soulfull and poetric.. I really like David Gates.. He has a great talent. Just a legend.
Please GO AND TEACH ALL DA YOUNGSTERS DAT IF THEY ONLY LISTEN TO A GOOD SONG FROM DA 1960S AN 70 S THEY WOOD GET TO HEAR DA TRUE LYRICS , MELODIES AND LL DA GOOD HEALTHY CLEAN HAPPY SONGS.
In 1975 I was on a training course based at a hotel in Jesmond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. I'd arrived on Sunday afternoon and after dinner with others from the same organisation, we all sat down in the lounge to watch some television.
As the time neared 20:00 pm, I decided to risk the wrath of my colleagues by going over to the TV set and saying "I hope you don't mind if I switch over to this programme....".
It was Glenn Campbell's BBC TV series and special guest this week was David Gates.
There was initially some mumbling and muttering from my colleagues but within minutes, they sat in hushed amazement at the music pouring out of the TV. Every song was fantastic but perhaps the most stunning was David Gates' "Clouds Suite".....with Glen riveted to his chair with that performance. At the end of the TV show my colleagues actually applauded, they were so impressed with Glen and David.
I've never forgot that performance and I've never seen that show again (the BBC told me that the recording had deteriorated after all the passing years and would not be repeated (other Glen Campbell episodes from the series were repeated, but not this one).
I've hoped and prayed that one day this episode would be repeated and tonight, by chance, I stumbled upon it.
Malc, thank you so much for posting this.....you have no idea how much this means to me. If ever the "Clouds Suite" segment from this show appears, in ANY format, please let me know.
Kind regards from England.....
Ken
Ken,
I'm so happy for you
@@lindagarcia8826 Thank you for those kind words. Much appreciated and seeing David Gates with Glen Campbell once again was just joyful !

@@anthonysuau2244 Thank you Anthony....I very much appreciate your looking out for me !
Kind regards my friend !

these songs go down in time, they are bigger than Pink Floyd, AcDc, the stones… these songs this one man wrote.. are all Gigantic Hit Songs… every lyric and every phrase is perfect, it gives off incredible emotion and creates a memory in time… and you never loose the listener… they will always want to hear this song over and over again.
Peter Shaw I totally agree. Just an amazing songwriter and with an incredible voice. One of the best.
David Gates is an inspired good man. His musical compositions are masterful and timeless, full of feeling and truly emotion-evoking. As a sidenote, like the musically talented Osmond family, David Gates is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Love Bread and David Gates. I got the Best of Bread from older cousin when I was around 9, and I never stopped listening to Bread even through the heavy metal and hair bands to grunge. I play a few bread tunes from time to time at gigs. \m/
peace.
These songs are timeless and so beautifully written and performed. My 13 year old daughter loves them 🙂
Bigger than AC/DC? Bigger than Pink Floyd? His singles may have charted higher, but no way does he have more LP sales.
``Everything I Own`` This was actually a tribute to David's father who passed away at that time. Listen to the words. Tell me his emotion singing this doesn't tug at your heart and make you shed a tear. If you still have your folks, call them and tell them how much they mean to you!!
And I always thought this song was about a lost love...Now it takes on a whole new meaning as I listen to the words, and apply it to my mother, whom I lost in 2000. Beautiful song!
It’s class
I Played this at my Uncle's funeral by request of his son. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to play it? David Gates is a great songwriter and it uses quite a few chords.
I asked my uncle for help from above :) and managed to get my version down for the service. whew!
Peace to all the Bread fans. Y \m/
I still play this song from time to time. Here is a recent version I played. I am no David Gates mind you.

This song certainly strikes a huge chord with me and in the loss of my dad in August of 84. Just like he penned I'd give all I have up for just one more day with my dad. I really miss and today appreciate what he tried as a father to teach me. Wish before he passed that I told him how much I loved and appreciated him.
Maravilhosa homenagem ao pai.
Love the fact it is a true musical show, no lip sync'ing. They actually play and sing.
Never thought id here "if" as good as david's. Godbless Glen
Thank you, Glen.
That was a fantastic rendition of IF.
My favorite song.
He's still one of the most soothing voices I've ever heard ever
Why does this version sound different from what I hear on the radio? Oh, I know:. NO LIP SYNC going on here! This was when talent could be heard without computers enhancements. God, I miss good music like this.......
Hearing Glen sing `If` with that tender emotional voice just brings downs the tears knowing his current situation. God bless you Glen.
Glen is sing and playing the guitar with the Angels in heaven-what a fantastic time that must be!! Than you Lord for the time we had Glen with us down here.
Not only his incredible voice and writing skills, but David Gates has the most amazing ability to look right into the camera lens as if he is personally singing specifically to you.
He’s got me twirling my hair and kicking my feet. Love his songs.

😁👍You have very good taste!!
Steve Rudder I am so agree with you..all of the video of their concert...David Gates's way of looking to the camera..melt my heart..oh my as if that song dedicated to me..
God, when did we fall from Grace? Can we ever get it back?
Very impressive to see Gates allow Campbell to sing his masterpiece IF. Of course this is on Campbell's show. He obviously had deep respect for Glen, and it had to be mutual.
Is there someone you know... you're loving them so... but taking them all for granted.... You may lose them one day... someone takes them away... and they don't hear the words you long to say...
David Gates is one of the best song writers and performers in my opinion. Every word he sings is crystal clear and his songs make sense and have a proper theme. Wonderful and superb artiste.
Done on stage, live, and beautiful ! ! !
Great artist without any doubt . Actually he didn´t receive recognition he deserved..
David Gates so great with his talent yet so humble.
Glen always had the very best guests on his shows.
Holy Moly!!! That was awesome! Two of the most delicious, dreamiest voices ever. Thank you!
What a wonderful way to start my Day watching Glen and David sing.
My mother accually met David Gates and Bread in an airport in Texas. She told David that I have all their albums and sing them all lol. Miss her forever...
"Everything I own," a song for his father...so incredible with the great singing, playing, and songwriting.
UTTERLY FANTASTIC! BACK IN THE DAY WHEN TALENT HAD TRUE TALENT! gates, campbell, garfunkel, women like karen carpenter....when songwriting was songwriting and singers TRULY had incredible just incredible beautiful voices!...
A hundred million likes. This music goes straight to my soul. Greetings from Puerto Rico to all the good music lovers, old and young.
This is Fantastic! Not the first time Glen and David have played together! In the 60's both were sought after studio musicians!! Glen on Guitar and David on Bass! They played on Beach Boys and Surf albums among others
No comment is good enough for these two megastars...I've had the pleasure of seeing both of them live on stage in Liverpool UK...incredible artistes....
The sweetest voice i've ever heard...thank you David Gates for sharing your music...so beautiful and meaningful
Man, DG is a truly master! His high notes are so sweet
I always admire David Gates soothing voice!Relaxing!!!great voice!
Few could match Glen Campbell’s natural guitar playing ability. Glen was a true master of that instrument! The only other guitarist whose masterful talent over his instrument moves me more is the matchless David Gilmour of Pink Floyd. Gilmour is the greatest guitarist of all time in my book. But as far as vocals are concerned, Campbell’s singing is not only better than Gilmours, Glen Campbell’s vocals are GOLDEN and nearly PEERLESS. Gates too is right up there with the best of the best vocalists, but his compositions (both musically as well as lyrically) IS UNMATCHED BY ANY. If I were to describe David Gates songs in only two words it would be these: “SWEETLY TIMELESS”. Bread’s songs will sound just as good 1000 years from now as they do today...and the song “IF”, especially so if it’s Glen Campbell singing it!
Pure and beautiful.....full of feeling. I´m fortunate by listening this wonderful songs in the /0´s. Thanks David Gates for your wonderful songs.
WOW,,, what a voice. miss the 70"s I grew up in thank God
David Gates, you've marked my adolescence and I'll never forget It!! Your voice is amazing! Thank's you for existing! 💞💕💞💕💞💕💞💕
Me too
This was live and 70's tv audio and still sounds fantastic!
😢 …just beautiful remembering our younger days….
Their voices blend PERFECTLY together! What a Wonderful experience this was for me...two of my all-time favorites!!
That brings a huge smile on my face, for hours I could listen to this for sure, RIP Len.
I have long loved the music of both these guys. They seem to really admire each other's talent here. Nice.
I'm so in love with the voice of Mr. David Gates !... All of his songs are really great !!! Love Much !!!
Two musical giants from so long ago that it makes me wonder where our years have gone. Fantastic talents and a pure pleasure to listen to. Thanks so much for digging up this long lost clip. While David is a little humble and shy, I don't know how he could have been more personable and gracious.
Dedicate this song to my dearest father. R.I.P dad love you always and thank you for everything.
You could see Glen in in awe of David when he starts playing the first song, amazing , both so talented singers
Two legendary artists whose music will live on forever! Thank you for this beautiful memory!
Boy, I enjoyed that!!
What an amazing song writer, singer and musician. Glen hit it out of the part here too. Great duo! You don't see this kind of talent in one place playing together nowadays.
Gosh----Pop singers used to have talent and could really sing live and everything.
Who knew?
We knew
There's so much love and tenderness in David's singing. I appreciate it all the more, as time goes by.... And, Glen Campbell sang "If" so wonderfully! What a tribute to such a poetic song.
I love all the Songs of David Gates
This is gold!
Two of greatest songwriters and singers of all time
THANK YOU ! beautiful voices.. ILV this part of my history!
FORGOT BOUT THIS ONE....THIS ARTIST IS VERY TALENTED...LOVE IT
They sound great together, and Glen is so handsome!
Those were the days my friend...
WOW-these guys are really special singing some awesome songs!! Glen Campbell and David Gates!!! Thanks for all the great memories-David wrote some of the most beautiful love songs ever-includeing one to his dad-Everything I Own!! God Bless you David and Glen I know you are serenading the angels in heaven and doing better than all of us down here!!!! Hope you are blessed by this medley
David is so good, just a wonderful voice and writer. Glen is a great talent . listen 10:27-10:33 nice
that's the best 15 minutes i have spent in a long time!! awesome!! th-up!!
Gates is great. I agree with you, yet some dumbasses voted this down! Even if someone has never heard of Bread or dislikes pop music from the early 70s, it is hard not to like his voice and realize he is talented.
I'm so glad that I happened upon this wonderful clip! Many thanks for posting this...so poignant.
Woww so beautiful. Glen is wonderful in any avatar - guitarist, singer, even anchor !! God bless him
What happened to music? Did technology make everyone lazy? I miss the 70's
Curtis Moffett the expansion of the internet and computer based music in the 2000's. Yes, people have become fake artists
+Curtis Moffett Yep. Lazy, unartistic and undemanding. Remember how in the 70s we would buy an album and then just SIT and listen to it, intently, over and over, and then form an opinion, musically and artfully, about it. We would catalog it in our brain alongside the other albums by that artist, and decide what we liked, what was new, what was cool about it.
Yeah, well, people don't do that anymore. They download a few tracks, stuff them into an iPod, and listen to it in the background while they are washing the car.
yes all this it plus a harsh courser society
Everybody thinks they can sing. Thank goodness for AutoTune right? There was a time when singers could really sing without gimmicks.
Grunge pretty much killed it! It made so you didn't need to be able to sing, play an instrument of write lyrics! Then Dance Pop came along with auto tune and choreography being more important and that was the nail in the coffin! Music has never recovered!
I so miss Bread I wanna cry
Amazing talent, and mutual respect. And what courage for Glen to sing one of Bread's hit songs on national TV with David Gates right there. Very few could have pulled that off; Glen did with flying colors. Campbell had so much talent and so much grace. RIP.
one of the most beautiful voices in the world
Wow just awesome ! Two truly fantastic voices blending beautifully , their respect for one another made me smile ! Don't see stuff like this anymore 😞
Best of times in music. Sure glad the 60's 70's happened. Rich & Real
Sweet, smooth, mellow, soulful, suave, classy
These two guys are just brilliant funny natural and very very talented great times indeed
What sensitivity, and so young, this song is besides a true proof of love, a work of art 👏👏👏👏👏
Simply Fabulous!!!
that was remarkable, done in the uk in 75...thanks for posting this great recording.
What a beautiful voice, man!
An excellent segment with two exceptionally talented musical artists. I'd love to watch the entire program. I think Glen Campbell had the superior vocal ability, but no one can sing a David Gates song like David Gates. That being said, Glen covered it better than anyone else I've heard.
Thanks for posting this wonderful reminder of how uber-talented Glen was and how great this show was! What an awesome appearance by David Gates and his duet with Glen is a master class in harmony!
Two greats on one stage.
I just love watching Glen's reactions to David.
The chorus on Everything I Own, always gets me. Lost the love of my life to cancer 18 months ago.
Just beautiful songs!!!❤
I've had a wonderful time. Thanks for posting.
That was one of the most beautiful things I've ever listened to
Glen Campbell was a very talented and humble man who recognized and supported fellow artists and didn't feel intimidated or threatened by them.
Fantastic! Luv every song they sang!
Pure Talent!!!
It is great to see the entire David Gates performance including the dialog. Thank you for posting this video.
I've never been able to pick between "Everything I Own" and "Wichita Lineman" on my all-time genre favorites list, so it's very gratifying to see these two greats together. Glen even mentions Jimmy Webb here, and on that old (1977) all-weekend "History of Rock and Roll" radio show, said that Webb actually had worked as a line repairman in Oklahoma. (BTW, Oklahoma very cleverly names its highways after its noteworthy residents, e.g. Will Rogers, Shannon Miller, Garth Brooks, but I haven't seen one for Webb -- I hope he does have one.)
And maybe one for David Gates.....and Vince Gill.....and Reba McEntire.....and Merle Haggard.....and so on and so on.....
Two of the greatest singers of all time sharing the stage. Great days...
Just a voice and a guitar-magic
Great execution of voice and musical meanings!!!
This guy just poured his heart out on national TV 😞
Any general dude will tell you!
OMG!!! How absolutely amazing. So many things to consider. Amazing musicians/songwriters/singers! From what I know, as of today, May 2nd, 2017, David Gates is still with us. Glen, so very sadly, is in the last stages of Alzheimers. What an incredible, and influential artist Glen Campbell was.
