    ¡Hola!
I am a first year Spanish student and one of my peer tried to use verb "gustar" . My teacher told him that he had done it wrong and that he should not even try to use the verb or he will get confused.
As we have done AR ending verbs, I just wanted to know what is so special.
    Please do tell

    • @LingoMasterySpanish
      @LingoMasterySpanish  Рік тому +1

      Hey Saisha! Great question.
The verb gustar needs to be used with Indirect Object Pronouns (instead of the regular pronouns like other verbs).
      The indirect object pronouns are:
      Me (yo)
      Te (tu)
      Le (él/ella/usted)
      Nos (nosotros/nosotras)
      Les (ellos/ellas/ustedes
The verb stays the same the pronouns are the ones that change.
      Me gusta
      Te gusta
      Le gusta
      Nos gusta
      Les gusta
And then you can use it to express that you like actions, nouns, or people, having little differences in their structure.
I would say use it as much as possible until you get it :)

Me levanto a las seis de la manana. Despues de levantarme....
I get up at 6 in the morning. After I get up....
Why can't I say 'despues me levanto'? Where is the 'de' coming from? No explanation.
Me cepillo los dientes todos los dias al levantarme y despues de comer.
I brush my teeth everyday when I wake up and after every meal.
'al' here is translated as 'when'. Why? 'Despues de comer' is translated as after every meal. Why? Where is the word 'every'?
Hay que lavarse las manos regularmente.
We have to wash our hands regularly. Where is the 'we' coming from in this translation?
It's for these reasons I find native speakers to be great at telling you if something is correct or sounds clunky, but as far as trying to understand the nuance and explaining certain structures I find them to be much less helpful. They didn't have to go thru the grind of learning a language as an adult and build from the ground up. I hate how all these videos always give you a generic translation and not the exact words being used. I get translating is about expressing the main idea but I want to express myself with the same level of granularity that I can in English. Not 'kind of' say what I want.
