This 100%. Timeless is the way to go. There’s a reason we’ll-fitting jeans (not skin tight and not some return to ugly 90’s jnco shit), a white t shirt, and either a pair of boots or Chuck Taylor’s has never gone out of style in over 70 years.
Instead of spending $500 on a pair of sweatshop-made Jordans that will go out of style faster than they were put together, spend $300 on a pair of Michigan-made Red Wings that will always look good and will outlast you. Not only will you save $200+ dollars, but you will also have something you can pass down for generations. Seriously, those boots will last forever.

@@eyespy3001 I agree with this. I tend to look for a good cut, good quality materials, good brand ethos etc when purchasing clothes nowadays. I like thick 100% cotton pieces like hoodies and vintage jeans that will last and not deteriorate in a few weeks.
Don’t get me wrong, these huge beast brands already had this high level of quality, especially supreme hoodies. But this brings me to my next point; I’m don’t with logos. It’s the most egocentric thing, walking around hoping people notice the brand you’re wearing. Especially with stone island, box logos, trifergs etc.

We wore Shorty's gear (especially the shirt with the S on each sleeve and hoodies), Duff, Etnies, Emerica, baggy Anchor Blue jeans, World Industries (a poser commercial skate brand, but a skate brand nonetheless, unlike Supreme). It may seem more expensive short term, but will be much better in the long run as those pieces I will still wear 5 years from now and not forget about it in a year.
Funny thing is, if you wore more avant-garde Rick pieces a few years ago, you’d be laughed at by people and get weird looks, now Rick is trendy so it’s okay. But instead of you being unique and stylish for wearing those pieces, you are just basic and trendy. Weird how trends can change normies’ pierspectives.

Avant Garde pieces and their focus on silhouette is the only one that goes for style separate from branding or trend. It is much more about expression and it's only one I respect. I don't think tiktok is necessarily to blame. There has always been ways to see and follow microtrends for those who want to, and instead of this hopping from style to style culture on tiktok, I see much more that people find a style that resonates with them and they dive deep into that. A bit like how japanese fashion trends develop within their own niche. The problem I think is the fact that we easily see so many things that are outside of our specific style niches and then are so easily able to test it out to see if it fits our aesthetic because of the overaccessibility of cheap clothing. All of this without actually needing to worry if it will suit or work for them because if it doesn't, its only a couple coins and they can always donate it. I think without this people would be required to think more before purchasing. And of course theres nothing wrong with trying things outside your comfort zone, but it'd be nice if there was a better way to do that

I’ve always been wearing baggy tops since middle school, especially oversized flannels. Slim fit jeans however I just started wearing and mainly because I gained some weight. Another reason was because (and let me know if you guys noticed) a few years back jeans and pants labeled as “slim fit” for some reason didn’t fit “slim” and were super baggy. My theory is that when the supreme, Yeezy trend picked up company’s started ACTUALLY making jeans a little more fitted in order to join in on the hype. Honestly they look better now and also looks better with my weight compared to skinnies. Personally, as a fan of avant-garde fashion, I see a lot of the new gen-z avant-garde hype boasts influence from rave and queer fashion as opposed to a more 'properly presented' day-to-day style, which is fine since I think a lot of style is consolidated in a type of way to make a point quickly within the mediated hyper-reality of social media. I see the fashion community as split in two, the younger or less interested consumers who want to make points quickly and so build outfits around staple pieces (e.g. Rick Owens shoes, Carhartt, etc) that the popular culture is aware of, and people who simply enjoy specific or eclectic mixtures of certain styles, niches, designers, etc. This former is a surefire wire to make outfits that look well-put together and simulate authentic awareness of a sub-culture but the issue is that now this is the norm and amongst the public panopticon of other fashion consumers who also entitle themselves to be critics and is viewed as shallow.

If I had to choose I'd definitely go with archive, because it has the biggest potential to develop your own style. I feel like a lot of those guys I mentioned above are huge trend hoppers. Consider style/practicality/season and not trends when you dress and your style can evolve but stay consistent with who you are as a person. Spend good money on essential shoes and accessories, and dress with cheaper staples so you don’t get tired of them. I still wear shirts from highschool 10 years ago and shoes I bought in college and they go with anything I wear today.. I might buy maybe 4 items total a year for the last couple years and still get compliments frequently. Yes, baggy pants, monarch’s, flannels, new balances, salomons, baseball caps are in my wardrobe, but these are things I gathered up to 8-10 years ago and wear them to this day. I deff can appreciate trends and people pulling off trendy fits but it’s not for me, too much pressure to constantly buy clothes, only to spend most of my time not in public places ahaha

I also think there’s a bit of an upside when you can’t afford to copy these style trends bc then you can work w what you have in your wardrobe and that can inspire you to get creative and experimental with your individual style and when you do get enough money you may not even like those trends anymore but the ones you do like, you can fit them into your style if it complements it; already having the money can easily coerce you to jst copy everything that’s trendy unless you’re already set on and comfortable with your own style and dnt feel like changing it for anybody

trendsetting is nothing new, everything you mentioned is definitely spot on. Trends are always gonna have their time to shine, then they'll fade out at one point then in about a decade or two they resurface as a whole new vibe for another generation. the archive avant garde is definitely an upcoming swerve, but it'll eventually go back down into grinder just like everything before it. My input: you don't necessarily have to stick to one style, nothing wrong with having a signature piece (shiiii IMHO that part will make you stand out more). the most important thing is if you're gonna flex, be comfortable in it.

I would say I lean more towards the tote bag hypebeast but I also can say I gravitated towards that style because I gain weight and still want to be stylish and comfortable. I would also say since I’m getting older I’m transitioning towards a more me s wear aesthetic.

I personnaly almost always wore this kind of outfit lmao. Rocking the high dc shoes sneaker when i was like 8 and dressing at a local skate shop for half of my time on earth (8 years) was probably the best choice because i always loved the things that are trendy now. I wear dickies and carhartt because of my dad who used to buy his clothes at cheap work clothe shop that offered american imported clothes. I find myself more in today trend and love it because i can wear what i always loved and be seen as trendy. I love hiking but never weared gorpcore because i just dont like it. @@WhatsTheHype.Landon meh. Lol. I see more camp active wear, but the pricier stuff, Patagonia, arc'teryx, fjalraven, seem to be more popular. But usually just a piece or two, a bag, a jacket. Generally worn by people who aren't doing anything active. Maybe they just want to project that life style. No clue. At work it tends to be more street wear here, thats what I wear at work as well. I work beside the university and it's all students of course. Weekends I wear more the "gorpcore" because I take off on trips to do the outdoor stuff. I figure just wear what makes you comfy, and happy for day to day of you can.

ive been really into ann dem. lately. early into my “fashion journey” about two years ago i was of course heavily into rick owens, raf, FoG and Balenciaga. However, i was lucky to play the game slow and let all pieces in my “grailed favorites” sit for a while before pulling triggers, and as i scrolled from bottom to top i saw my style taste develop more and more which led me to waiting more and more. eventually, i found myself in love with the antwerp 6 and that whole dark couture look with trenches, blazers, and trousers (which i originally thought i would never wear!). it’s versatile, it’s comfy with its focus on fit, and most importantly i want to wear it everywhere :) which is now the checklist i always look for before i buy.
