I came to UA-cam to search for a Teff flour sourdough recipe and got distracted watching this tutorial. Now I'm deciding on what colour yarn I have to buy 😆. Thank u for your tutorials I love watching them.
Thank you, Jane. This is fabulous. This join can be used with practically any granny square, and I love the look of it. I have also modified this join slightly by going up a hook size (or two) and doing: “Single crochet, chain ONE, single crochet.” One other point of praise….Your generosity of spirit shines through. 💕✨✨
So glad you like it. Yes, I encourage everyone to try different numbers of chains etc, as we all crochet differently. Some days I crochet tight and some days looser, so often I even have to change hook size to get the same tension or effect on different days lol. Thanks so much for watching.
Oh my gosh, I've looked at so many crochet videos trying to peak my interest more (I prefer to knit, though I'm not great at either) and your instructions and patterns are the best ever. Thank you for sharing your skills and time. 👍🌹
This is a lovely technique. If I want to make a blanket do I join all the squares across that create the width then go down to the second row as you did in the cushion tutorial? I am lefthanded and assume all will work out going in the opposite direction. ❤
Yes that is the way to do it. It should work the same as a leftie, just everything will be in the opposite direction, once you set up the width with the first row of squares, then you just add rows of the same number until you reach the length you like. Good Luck!
Yes, totally, go for it! do mention this near the beginning of the video and I actually made a second pillow trying a chain 1 instead and it worked great, in fact it made the pillow top a little "firmer" which is good with pillow covers. So definitely try it with the chain 1 instead if that is what you are feeling. Enjoy and thanks for watching.
I'm thinking you mean after you do the join. You could do 1 sc in each ch-sp as you don't want the border to flair out with too many stitches. The chain spaces should pull together nicely and create a firm border for you. Let me know how that works for you. Thanks for watching.
I have not tried it with the original granny square style, but I would think you could use this version, just skipping every second st. I have a diagram of the direction to follow around the squares over on the blog post that goes with this video, the link for that post is in the description. Thanks for watching.
Do you or anyone here block their squares. I just bought a crochet block (if that’s what it’s called??).. newbie here, or is it not necessary? I’ll return it if not needed to block
I have done both ways, blocked and not blocked. For me, it depends on how the square looks. If it turns out wonky i block it otherwise I just join them.
I usually do block my squares, I like to make them behave before I join them and it helps to make them more uniform in size. I use a steamer and a foam blocking board set with marks on the foam in inches. You can check out my blocking process in my Warm Hugs and Daisy Squares series, I demonstrate my blocking in Part 2. Good luck with it, you won't be disappointed.
I am too lazy to block my squares! If you fine tune your tension, over time your technique will become more consistent, and your work and stitches will become even.

Jane, this is excellent. You make it look and sound so easy! Time here in B.C. is 1:15pm.

Awe thanks so much. Hope you like it.
@@jspcreate I loved it !!! (as always ! ) ☺
I thought about chaining 1 on the outside instead of chaining 2. Just curious if you tried it like that...

I do this and go up a hook size so everything lays nice and flat.

If I want to do a round of sc to start the border, do I do 1 or 2 sc in each ch2 space going around?

May I ask what brand crochet hook that is? I’ve never seen one like it.
Yes, it is a Susan Bates Silvalume Ergonomic. I love them and they have lasted me a long time
