I train alone, and your videos really help me to learn how to lift, I really appreciate, you are doing an incredible work! Sorry about my English, I’m Mexican! Lol
I performed my first session of "passable" snatch this week all thanks to your previous videos. Warming up with the drop snatch and tall snatch high pull had helped me get into position much easier.
@@Stijn41 I believe its my overhead stability and shoulder strength might even be fear to get under idk Ive been training my snatch balance hopefully that will help me put it together :) thanks for the advice
@@KeepoHdee it's probably all mental for you, that's exactly how it is for me. I can power snatch like nothing but ask me to snatch and I can't even lift light weight to my hips because I'm mentally scaring myself. I'll even sometimes just stop at my hips it's mostly in my head and I'm struggling to get over it.
@@jizzypuff I agree re being scared, there is a certain 'bravery' required to get under a heavy bar..hip snatches/cleans will help with speed under the bar. Start light and gradually work up, it will improve speed under and also help with any mental block associated with getting under the weight.
Cheers for this great video! Can’t wait for the next part. I struggle badly with getting under fast enough, even though my pull is easily high enough. Appreciate all the content you make man.
Incidentally, I recently had Torokhtiy analyze my snatch via his website, and he said my pull under was too slow. His recommendation was basically a ton of hang snatches in the 40-60% range, anywhere from the power position to just above the knee.
I'm trying to fix the exact problems you described in this video. I'm going to start using all of these exercises in my warm up, they're all great ideas. This video was awesome and I'm looking forward to part 2!
Soviet school also made lifters to practice horizontal jump (leap, I suppose). You start from a full seated squat position and the aim for a relatively small guy to cover like 2m distance with a leap without much pre-swing (even more for tall guys). Just now, when I saw you, I realized why did we train this explosiveness.
Zack, These videos have helped me tremendously. You and I have similar builds and I've noticed all of your technique videos have really moved my lifts along. I'm a coach with mainly a powerlifting background and started Olympic weightlifting around 8 months ago so that I can hopefully teach it others as well one day. What advice would you give to a lifter to get over the fear of tucking yourself under heavier barbells? I've really had an issue with 100kg and I know it's just a mental block. Keep up the content and thank you for being so thorough.
I like to use box jumps in my warmups to help with the speed. I do them to a moderate box (70cm tall at my gym) and I jump onto it to the bottom position of a squat. Basically as little jump as possible with as much speed as possible.
Zach, when you say "max depth", are you meaning the maximum depth you can hit just prior to butt wink? In the video when you are doing the goblet jump squats, it looks like you could actually go further down, so i'm wondering if you aren't actually hitting maximum depth to avoid the wink. Thanks for any feedback!
When ever I go from full extension to received position, the cue I use is "Tuck knees " which I imagine the hips forcing the knees to align itself, whilst dropping
Can you make a video on Butt wink or posterior pelvic tilt & how to eliminate it while performing any squat movement (especially back squats or snatch) btw love your videos keep up the good work.
Hey Zack, really enjoying your insight and educative videos on weightlifting. I want to listen to your podcast but only have time to do so during car rides. Is there any way to download them?
Always great content ! I have a "stupid" question but I want to be sure : we can also use tall clean to improve, right ? Thank you for sharing your knowledge !
Is it necessary to learn how to fail on the snatch before pulling under it. Moreover I assessed myself that I have a stronger back as compared to the glutes or quads so "do I have to stop working on the back and work on squat" your videos have helped me a lot.
I'm not sure how it will transfer to this, but would it be right if we practice the "timing" under the bar (aka not being "bar-crashed" and allowing the most proper position for the catch, centered in balance) with power or squat jerks? Because I feel improvements in that sense, and I assume that could be because of using both legs (similar to bottom of ohsquat, not the split stance) but with the advantage of starting with front racking position and allowing less steps or less distance (barbell has not to travel from hips to ohsq position) and focusing on proper timing and position. What I don't like of snatch balances is the fact that the starting position is with the bar behind your neck, wich not mimick the departure of the bar from the hips and skiping all that "arm pulling under the bar" mechanics. I hope that makes sense. Srry for my bad english. Thank you for bringing so gooooood content.
This is part of what I am struggling with big time! The other part is having an uneven stance when I catch it, my left foot is more forward than my right (this is only in the snatch, does not happen in the c&j or squats).... I am thinking I just have to really open up the hip flexors and work on hip alignment work. Is there anything else that could be causing it?? BTW - Love the videos, they have been helping me and my gym members out a lot! They have been hitting a number of PR's the past few weeks!
Hey Zach, can you do a video on how to keep elbows out, and upper back tightness in the clean? I need help staying tight and strong in the bottom. That would be awsome!
Hey Zack, any ideas how to deal with the soft elbows in the jerks (and snatches)? Any exercises to reduce or eliminate that? I have really long arms and somewhat short torso.
Do you think there is a genetic limitation to speed under the bar? When you watch Ehab or Okulov it is hard not to notice their tremendous speed under the bar. I wonder how much can be attributed to specific exercises or genetics. Btw where can I download your podcast and listen to it? I don't have iTunes. Android phone.
Speed can be developed but top end speed will usually be a genetic limitation. Everyone at the elite level is fast but guys like Oleg Chen, Luis mosquera, and okulov just have a little extra that can’t be taught
Hey bro... you should make a video on nutrition or diet and weightlifting... or what famous weightlifters ate. Just an idea bro 😎. Awesome channel and vids tho man. Love it. 😊👌✌🤘
Going to add these into my plyo/power accessories. The no foot snatch helped me most with the pull under. Because I wasn’t trying to actually “jump”. Interestingly in Russian “jump” means “prizhok” but it’s used more to refer to hip contact than the extension/pull under/3rd pull which is called podriv. 🤓🤓🤓

estás en IG?
The tall snatch is great. Klokov did overhead squat jumps for 100m with 40kgs I didnt try that because I'm not Klokov
Can u tell me where i can find the videos
Do you mean he's overhead squat jumping forward, for 100m (meters)?
@@tomorrowtodaylaneyes in this case it would be overhead squat long jumps, so risky even with 40 kg.

dude this is exactly what Ive been strugging with!!!! I can power snatch way more than I can snatch
Same here
In most cases that just means you have to get your legs stronger ;)

Straight arm strength is best built with rings. Look into it brah!
Speed under is my weakest point. I'm so bad at drop snatches. Anything over 75 lbs turns into a snatch balance. 😣
hey im a beginner, what is the difference between a tall snatch and a normal snatch?
I just realized that Colin looks like Littlefinger from game of thrones 😂

Is the first option to lose weight?? Lmao you would get faster if you weighed less?
just do more squats and your numbers will go up. this is too much effort.
PaulMrThe couple sets of squat jumps and drop snatches = too much effort. My bad.
