Steve Earle, a man with character who has led a colorful life and learned from his mistakes and shared his story and talent with others. A man of moods and human moments, anger and bullshit like anyone else ..but a real man with a soul and fucking great batch of songs togo along with it all
Steve Earle is still quite young but already one of the great legends of country music. No need for the Hall of Fame to recognize that. Oh, and the song fucking rocks!
hon, i listen to this because it's Steve Earle, my favorite for years and years..the most incredible singer/songwriter alive and he did survive hell and back....
there you go, and Steve Earle is right up there with the best singer/songwriters ever born...maybe the best..right, unrepentant42??? you find the best stuff, baby......
This was such a great comeback song. I was a big fan of his before he got busted. And when he finally got out of prison and released this song, I was like "HELL YA!"
@WestCoast134 I can't hear this song and not think of the ending of Season 2 of The Wire. That's one of my favorite seasons. I lived in Locust Point when that was being filmed. I was in 8th or 9th grade and would come home and watch them film.
Tune, anytime your feeling low, blast out this tune... "uber high 5 to unrepentant42!" I am sure I heard him years ago and forgot, was re- Ignited to his CM on a cool film.
hey rich....you always put up the best stuff, sweetie...the best.....i wish i could get this show on DVD, does anyone know if it was recorded for sale? i've looked and looked....
@farbeyonddriven04 Yes - it was a show he did in a Tennessee prison as a condition of his parole, and was titled "To Hell and Back". The entire show is posted at another video site. I will pm the info.
@Ghost9909 If those are the only ones you know, you have some great listening ahead. I think some of his best are the quieter ones (Goodbye, Fort Worth Blues, Valentines Day, My Old Friend the Blues). But it sounds like you may prefer his hard edged rock. Look up Hardcore Troubadour, The Other Kind, Nowhere Road, Telephone Road, Back to the Wall and Snake Oil as a start. I haven't looked recently, but you used to be able to stream most of his albums on his myspace. Enjoy.
@Tubesternator It is my understanding that Steve Earle did not have a song credit at first. In an article for "No Depression", Lambert acknowledged Earle's influence and he was given a song credit on future printings of her album. I'm sure he doesn't mind receiving some of the royalties from "Kerosene."
People often diss country music as a whole, saying it has no redeeming qualities. I'll agree that there's a lot of stuff in the genre that's pretty fucking abhorrent, but as someone who listens to pretty much everything else except country, I'll say that Steve Earle is one of the best musicians ever.
I believe he said something to the affect of..."Nothin' I hate worse than some'body' comin' along tryin' to cheer me up...before I'm damned good and ready!!!"...paraphrased, of course...)O(...
In some ways I do agree with you, the wire is definatly more realastic the the Shield could ever be ( Or for most shows for that matter) but for my money The shield is much more fun to watch then the Wire could ever be. Anyway Thank for replying to my comment :-) tell me if you agree or disagree, and altough I do not like the Wire that much I do want to see more of it and plus I love David Chase can't wait for his next project Ribbon of Dreams.
@justlaxin22 Huh? Apart from anything else, Steve Earle's still making music, as are a whole lot of other great artists. Just cos it's not being spoonfed on MTV doesn't mean it isn't still out there...
The Wire has nothing on The Shield, although David Chase is awesome. Did you hear about his it's working name right now is Ribbon of Draems and it is going to air on HBO. Can't wait !
Learned from his biography that this concert actually took place at a prison in Tennessee. He had to play for prisoners as part of his release/probation. The guys in the audience are actually prisoners.
Since Lambert admitted she borrowed the melody for Kerosene without realizing it, and then gave Steve co-writer credit, you are certainly not the only person.
I have to agree with steeler. the wire seems to retain its realism by not having one over-the-top character like the shield. dont get me wrong, the shield is great but the wire seems to be that cut above.
Nah... this is "Walon" just after he got clean, 10 years earlier. A lot of addicts gain weight after getting clean, and Steve is no exception. Still had had more hair than on the Wire.
@MegaHenry111 If only he'd been produced by Bob Rock... Bob Rock could have saved him from his woeful mediocrity. Bob Rock can save everyone, I've heard.
Anthony Edwards Steve borrowed a riff... Miranda took the whole song, down to the "huh" and had to give Steve co-write credit. Though to be fair, she admitted it when it was pointed out and said it was not intentional. She had listened to it a lot when it came out but had not listened for several years. Musicians borrow all the time, though, it is all a question of degree. Steve couldn't be sued for a riff, Miranda could have been, though it didn't come to that.
My son and I are addicted to this song. We first heard it at the end of season two of The Wire...quality series and a quality song!
Steve has lived it, too -
Bless you, as you continue your journey, Sir -
Steve Earle, a man with character who has led a colorful life and learned from his mistakes and shared his story and talent with others. A man of moods and human moments, anger and bullshit like anyone else ..but a real man with a soul and fucking great batch of songs togo along with it all
you gotta admire his love for the ladies...he really did have a "Fearless Heart". Married 'em whenever he got the chance...
From what I've gathered of Steve Earle...sounds very much like him...rock on big Steve
Steve Earle is still quite young but already one of the great legends of country music. No need for the Hall of Fame to recognize that. Oh, and the song fucking rocks!

A fitting montage song for the end of Season 2 of the Wire. Great way to end a season.

There is a lot of great country music out there, including new artists. You won't find them on the radio, but it is worth looking,
there you go, and Steve Earle is right up there with the best singer/songwriters ever born...maybe the best..right, unrepentant42??? you find the best stuff, baby......
I am heading to itunes for this one!
Thanks.
EXCELLEANT STEVE EARLE !!
this song is da best evah!
One of my all time favourite albums
He was my first concert, my second, and third...when I was around 8 years old. My dad took me to his concerts.
Thanks - I feel validated now that someone else hears the same thing.
My favorite song of all time period!
Steve, one of a kind, a Legend !
always the best....always.....
This was such a great comeback song. I was a big fan of his before he got busted. And when he finally got out of prison and released this song, I was like "HELL YA!"
Hell yeah, man! The Wire is the best TV show.

When MTV was .... MTV.
Steve Earle FTW
More intense than the original CD version. And what musical flow. God.
Somebody please, please, please...MP3 this.

@Ghost9909

I feel alright! I miss the old MTV. We do have Palladia!

Epic.

Well said!!!
God bless but this is a blessing to hear
That´s my kind of audience!!
That's where i heard this song too SupesTV. The Wire Season 2's ending montage. It is fucking great!.
the end of the wire season 2 awesome!!!!!
I believe he said something to the affect of..."Nothin' I hate worse than some'body' comin' along tryin' to cheer me up...before I'm damned good and ready!!!"...paraphrased, of course...)O(...
I feel that way, too, sometimes. How dare somebody try to tell me how to feel. lol
Yes that is a famous quote of his.
madd bruthas representin in the crowd

@WestCoast134 Pretty much the entire series is the most brilliant _____ minutes I've ever watched.
Nice video. Me and some of my friends posted a cover of this one.
They should have made a live album of this show!
Cool!
Your so so handsome
amen
Fuck yeah!
@rug3r44 Haha yeah, I were thinking the same thing. People in the crowd even seems to know who he is!
@Bdasef nooo Talladega Nights "If you aint first your last...!"
@justlaxin22
Huh?
Apart from anything else, Steve Earle's still making music, as are a whole lot of other great artists. Just cos it's not being spoonfed on MTV doesn't mean it isn't still out there...
@cookieman38111 Tom Ames' Prayer...set in the western/cowboy/outlaw days...
I said G L O R I A, Gloria !
The Wire has nothing on The Shield, although David Chase is awesome. Did you hear about his it's working name right now is Ribbon of Draems and it is going to air on HBO. Can't wait !
"The Wire" shits on "The Shield". The best show on television.
supernatural~~~
@Ghost9909 They are all great. One of my favorites is guitar town. check it out!
@timeforaction And don't forget this song at the end of season 2
Reading through the comments would answer your question...
Of course.
@rug3r44 True Dat! Gave me chills...
@cfwbdude What film was it?
Was this a full Steve Earle show on MTV?
de fruta madre

@Ghost9909 Devil's right hand is cool.
could it be that steve earle is more punk than punk .... oh yeahh
It's a bit amazing to listen to this - then fast forward 10 years and hear Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene..."
lizbrummond Looks like she stole it from him. Both are good songs though.
Walon really let himself go over the next 7 years.
I have to agree with steeler. the wire seems to retain its realism by not having one over-the-top character like the shield. dont get me wrong, the shield is great but the wire seems to be that cut above.
Washington street boulevard
Nah... this is "Walon" just after he got clean, 10 years earlier. A lot of addicts gain weight after getting clean, and Steve is no exception. Still had had more hair than on the Wire.
Am I the only one who has noticed the similarity between this and Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene"?
Haa!
MTV showing real music? This must be from another century. Where's the talentless gangsters and the autotuned 12 year olds?
@MegaHenry111
If only he'd been produced by Bob Rock...
Bob Rock could have saved him from his woeful mediocrity.
Bob Rock can save everyone, I've heard.
He's in his "fat Elvis" stage here.

Ain't country. Jesus.
Miranda Lambert ripped him off with Kerosine. Huhhh!
And Steve Earle ripped off Gloria by the Rolling Stones, so what's your point?
Anthony Edwards Gloria was by Van Morrison and Them
My bad. Still, Steve Earl stole from it. I always got Van mixed with Jagger.
Anthony Edwards Steve borrowed a riff... Miranda took the whole song, down to the "huh" and had to give Steve co-write credit. nilradem That's so funny. Yes it does. I'm a writer myself. It's good to know what you can and can't do.
