  • In several of my videos or even on other channels, we've talked about the mechanics of throwing the hook, but never in any video have these positioning tricks and footwork been included to give more power to your hooks and, of course, to avoid getting hit yourself. If you want TECHNIQUE and to learn how to add more power to your hooks, this is your video

You throw even more powerful punches if you don't twist your lead knee. The only thing that's allowed to twist is your waist, not the hips, the waist. When you twist your knees it turns your hips, but not your waist. But the waist is what transmits torque from the legs, the hips are the interface between the legs and the waist, so the hips have to remain still, only the legs and the waist move. This is basically applying isometrics to your technique. If you isolate the waist movement from hip movement, when you turn your waist to the right, your left leg drives into the ground, like a stake you use to hold down a tent. When you turn your waist to the left, the right leg is driven into the ground. If you turn your head with your waist, you'll realize you're also turning your hips, so the head and hips do not turn, only the waist.

4:13 Would the word "slide" or "shuffling" work since you're smoothly moving back and forth?

Hi I did boxing and kickboxing for years too and I understand there are different ways to perform different ounches.
In our boxing gym our trainer (former ukrainian national champ) taught us to transfer weight to the left leg and then rotate and use the torque/ force generated from that.
    I mean like this:
    ua-cam.com/video/ahSbkncXEvQ/v-deo.htmlsi=V63ixsTq_DH5PjnG
Obviously to not telegraph/hide the hook you can throw something to disguise this like a cross which turns your body to the left creating more torque for the left hook.
What I want to say is I would not lift a foot off the ground as I throw the hook or any other power punch. KO punchers generate 35-40% of their power of their legs, other 35-40 of their trunk and only about 20% of their arms. So why would you want to lift a leg while doing the punch instead of generating power from it.
