Leslie and Wolf - great job! I loved listening in on your discussion. My daughter and I are coming to Madeira in October in large measure due to your videos. We can't wait!
We love Portugal - we’ve stayed in the Algarve, Madeira and Lisbon and on Terceira in the Azores. The country is safe and beautiful, the people are warm and welcoming, and as European travel goes it is still relatively affordable. We highly recommend it to anyone who asks and look forward to visiting the Sao Miguel and Madeira in 2024. We’re with Alan - snow shovelling is a drag.
@@pizzapizza4991 We love all of it. Each area has its unique charms. Common denominators are beautiful countryside, welcoming people, great food and mild climate (compared to North America). Portugal is also a relatively safe country to travel in. The Algarve has beautiful beaches and lovely little towns along its coastline. Lisbon is a city with lots to see and do. Madeira is a lush, volcanic island and while there isn’t the choice of sandy beaches the hiking in its natural landscape is spectacular. Terceira (one of the islands in the Azores archipelago) is also stunning for its lush and rugged beauty and the people are friendly and hospitable.
Ola ahthis is good That is great to hear! Because this past week we really could have used some A/C. Thank you for watching our videos and for commenting. It really helps us to grow and makes us happy. Have a fantastic weekend! Alan, Leslie and Wolf
Thank you for warm words about the Portuguese people... I can see you are getting more deep and deep in our way of living and how we see the world!! The simple way of living... Enjoy it because life is beautiful... You welcome!!
Olá @HumbertoPatricio, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀. And thanks for the kind words of encouragement. We love it here. Obrigado Alan, Leslie and Wolf
Hello, I watched this video a while ago, but it popped up again today. My comment??? As usual - great job and thanks for the video! It was particularly great to hear Wolf's thoughtful comments on Portugal and life in Portugal... "Life is a gift you give yourself" indeed! For a really fun time, next time you're in Sintra make sure to visit Quinta da Regaleira if you haven't already... It's a lasting tribute to one man's, one family's imagination. A legacy, and so lovely that they left what they built for us to experience today.... And an added benefit.... no "bus ride from hell" necessary! 🙂. We walked there from Sintra center.
Such great news about the people and culture of Madeira. I believe this video really shares the essence of the island for anyone who's ready to welcome all that Madeira has to offer. Great job, as usual, Alan, Leslie & Wolf!
Once again guys, thanks for presenting an inspirational and beautiful video on the real dream of my wife and I in living abroad, and now especially Madeira! Obrigado, Al&Dea Marcano
Really enjoyed hearing from Wolf & Leslie this time. We look forward to making a trip next year for our scouting trip. Thank you so much for all the information you are sharing.
Thanks for all your insights with regard to life on Madeira. As a fellow midwesterner, I’ve spent all winters in Wisconsin. I totally understand never wanting to shovel again!! Thanks again Allen Leslie and Wolf. We are currently in Door County celebrating the 4th. Take care and enjoy every new day and experience. 👍
Olá @thomash681, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀. Door county is a nice place for sure. Thanks again for watching. Alan,Leslie and Wolf
Hi 👋 love your videos I’m happy that you are enjoying my little paradise I’m from São Vicente but living in London enjoy life is short Ps 😂love your car too ❤
I’ve been to Sintra and Algarve in 2022. I would definitely want to go to Madeira as well. I suggest you visit my beautiful city Tangier in Morocco just off the straight of Gibraltar. It will be a nice introduction for your family to Africa. You’d surprised how similar Lisbon and Tangier look.
Ola Afrobian, Thank you very much. We really have been wanting to visit Morocco. Please let us know if you have any other suggestions for a trip. Have a wonderful day Alan
Hi there, so good to see you all! Thank you again for filming your walks around the levadas. And about mentioning the gun culture in the US! I have a daughter and grandchild living in the States and it really worries me. To be fair the american grandparents worry about this as well. We are all here in Lisbon now and will spend some time together in the Algarve region. Hope to see again in Madeira or Barcelona. 😘😘
wonderful stories .. I live in Porto Rico an island.. my preference would be the interior of Portugal for a change.. Madeira has awesome mountains, exceptional scenic locations.. I like your videos.. madeira is a good place to visit & live. .. language is a barrier.. I speak Spanish fluently but not Portuguese.. at 67 it is hard to learn a new language.. Portugal has made an effort to teach English in schools for decades.. not the same in France or Spain.. but.. English is now, part of the education system in Spain & France for the newer generations.. some hope there.. all EU countries have this challenge.. Spain has Spanish, France has French.. these are Romance languages as Italian.. other than English.. so a US born citizen would probably find Spain, Portugal & France to be good choices. Learn the language to at least get by .. PR has high bureaucracy.. nothing new here.. bureaucracy also takes time.. bureaucracy is a shock for many US citizens that move abroad.. Spain & France also bureaucratic.. have patience,, as for culture & history .. make an effort to learn both .. moving overseas is a big challenge.. a lot of patience is required..
Olá, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. We appreciate your comments and personal opinions. We will continue to learn and adapt to our new home. Obrigado, Alan, Leslie and Wolf

Bom dia Alan and Family! My husband and I have been following your UA-cam channel because we've been dreaming of someday retiring to Portugal. We're in our late 50s and have a 20 year old son that lives with us. Is it tricky to bring him along with us when we get D7 visas? We are vacationing there for the first time in September. We'd like to hire someone to help us plan a unique trip with part of the time focused on visiting nice towns to settle in when the time comes. If anyone has advice, please let me know. Thanks!

How is nursing home or old care facilities cost wise? I read somewhere that Portugal doesn’t have nursing homes as at old age they live with families only
Ola Fred, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. Portugal does have nursing homes the care options are very similar to what you find in the USA. From high to low. While the cost is just a faction of the costs in the USA it is all realitive. Hopes this helps. Have a wonderful day, Alan
Ola marydfm664 Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. People have traveling to and from the island for hundreds of years. Sailors, Madeirains, and visitors. The island has always been a place of new and old. Have a wonderful day!
Everytime I watch these things and hear about the all beautiful, no flaws presentation of Portugal, I wonder how much is due to the influence of youtube algorithms and how much is reality. I would like to know things like, ''How do they treat blacks''. Have they cornered the difficulties the saxon west (America, Uk) have over the years? How long before your welcome expires there? perhaps because of some news of political rivalry between your countrys or race? after you settled and invested your soul, life and money in a country, are you free to speak your mind, and be accepted as part of the citizenship and join the debates on matters that affect you? or do you just face the landscape, grow your own food and hope for the best. Are you 'part of' or 'subject to'...that is the question.
Ola Chaz, All good questions. We have addressed many of them throughout our videos over the past year. We encourage you to stay with us as our journey grows. Have a wonderful day! Alan
