I've done this, in a different context, but similarly. It's one hundred and ten percent dependent on where that person is in their life now and how aware of the horror they did was. If they're looking for excuses anywhere, nope. But it can happen that people are wholly different than they were.
It makes me sad that so many people in the comments refuse to acknowledge that Timothy has spent years trying to make amends for all of his wrongdoings and just assume he's trying to cover everything up. This is why we can't solve any current social issues, this is why were not seeing change. Forgiveness is important. Stop playing the blame game. People change.
I learn more about life and the issues surrounding it on youtube than any amount of schooling ever. Nothing can teach you about forgiveness or honesty like videos like these and i am proud to be a part of this community.
To anyone having a bad day, you are beautiful. Always acknowledge that 😊 look in the mirror confidently and say, I love myself no matter how anyone thinks of me. Being beautiful on the inside is what matters and outside beauty is nothing compared to inside beauty. For anyone who is being bullied of your body image, weight or looks, stop for a moment and think, "Why am I here? I was born for a reason." Everyone was born for a reason. You are valued in life and to have you taken away takes something away from the world. Have a great day and more days to come 😘
To be honest,I would probably have a huge fear of most men if I had been abused by one at 13,which is the same age the man in the video's bother was murdered. Is that not the same concept? Im not justifying his racism, but the mental trauma he suffered at such a young age is worth noting.
+Simplicity Logan I was not being sarcastic. I hate it when SJWs think white people today owe them something when it was not even people today who oppressed them back in the day. These SJWs today were most likely not even alive when actual oppression was going on.
When can this world just get along and be positive and peaceful!! Why do we have to kill others of our kind just because their sexuality of skin color. Think about it, does it really effect you?
Personally, i have never faced violence but i have gotten very disturbing racial remarks because I'm Mexican. These remarks have made me slowly lose faith in humanity
One time, a person at the store followed me because he thought i was going to steal something. When i asked him why, he responded saying because im mexican and there is no possible way that i have enough money to buy stuff in the store. So yea, i wish there was peace
Ok, misleading title. We've been through this before... They are not friends. They are colleagues and do presentations and interviews together and Matthew has forgiven the guy - that's it. He clearly says they are not friends at 7:20...
Erica No matter the times of how sorry each of us have been, nothing will mend our friendship, but I've grown from it, for this was the past. They may resent me forever, but only the happiest I wish for them.
Your not alone. I emotionally hurt so many people that I become from being Popular to being an Antisocialist. Then going through depression. I hope you're feeling better.
People in these comments show how close-minded we all are to change, how unwilling we are to let people change themselves for the better. Honestly I think this video is great in helping show how great it can be when we are able to accept that people made horrible decisions and that they regret them; taking action to amend for their mistakes as a human being.
This is actually incredible wow. It really shows how people can change and that racist, homophobic people can change to accepting people and it's so amazing to see that a man can forgive a man who tried to kill him because of hate. This is incredible and anyone who says otherwise in the comments should think about how many times they were forgiven.
A lot of people are still afraid, and there are real fears all over the world of being out, so I hope this helps. I still appreciate your comment though.
Society has placed this burden of forgiveness onto victims as if it releases them from some sort of hell. I don't want to be friends with someone who committed a disgusting act against me. I won't come back and try to harm you but I certainly won't sit next to you in an amicable manner. It isn't my job to make a person feel better about the crime they committed even if they do change. I can move on but it's not my obligation to shake hands and go out for coffee with my attacker.
I don't think (in this vid at least) they're trying to say you have to forgive someone who hurt you in any way, but that it is possible if you do feel that'll give you closure. For the victim in this, I think he felt better for forgiving one of his attackers and seeing that the attacker had genuinely changed and was remorseful. Victims should do whatever they are comfortable with and what they feel is best for their wellbeing.
I don't even like that you posted this. Why do you feel the need to justify yourself? If people think you're inclined to deliberately hurt or kill someone because you're black leave them in their blindness.
+cosmic infinity In all fairness, it doesn't sound like he genuinely intended to kill him since as soon as the beating got into the killing territory they all left but I definitely see what you mean
cosmic, we *all* have the capacity to kill. People with no history of violence have killed before. And if you condemn him for an action that thankfully didn't result in any severe permanent consequences like *murder*, then revoke any argument you've had against a racist or homophobe because you clearly don't believe people can change.
Why is no one understanding the point of the story? You all have jokes about something so serious, but like he said, "this is a wound that needs to be healed". People are dying and you guys think it's funny because it didn't/hasn't happened to you?
+Bubbles That's actually not necessarily true. It obviously does happen, but many people have a hatred for races they've barely even interacted with because they're essentially taught to hate other races and see them as inferior.
Because after that, he became an extremist who are not only against black people, they're against all who are different. Gays, Jews, trans people, they think that everyone should be exactly what they are and should be punished if they aren't. His hatred started towards black people then spread to all who were different.
I thought this was going to be funny when I clicked on it but when I watched it I actually learned something that I really needed to learn right now. Thank you Buzzfeed for posting this. This is really going to help me in life:)
I'm blown away by how many people in the comments don't understand the story. Asking what happened, why he mentioned the race of the guy who killed his brother, what role the museum played in this... I mean, is there an epidemic of concussions in Buzzfeed viewers or something?
AMAZING VIDEO BUZZFEED!!!! This is exactly what a lot of us need, change comes from within and grows from love and compassion. People can do horrible heinous things but they are not a horrible heinous person!!!
+Jaqen H'ghar woah I didn't say that and I don't think that is true. All Discrimination is equal. Equally hurtful and equally regressive. I was just saying that to make people think and put this story into a different perspective ...
This is a great story to hear. Thats a genuine story of forgiveness and shows how people change and see how their wrong once was. Everyone makes mistakes in their lives and people grow up and mature, its good to hear a positive story like that. Shows that hatred can be erased in this world.
not really. one of his friends yelled "lets kill this f*ggot!" so he went up to matt and literally kicked him in the head while his friends were kicking and stomping him all over his body. it doesn't matter how he felt after, he still tried to kill him.
there is absolute no way I would be able to forgive Timothy, ever if I was Matthew. I admire him so deeply for being able to do this but I almost have so much anger for him right now. If someone tried to kill me, and kicked me in the head with no regard with the kind of immense pain I would feel, I would absolutely charge them with attempted murder.
OMG OK BEFORE I WATCH THIS IM JUST GONNA SAY : I love these two! I went to the Museum of Tolerance and met both in person! The story they tell is amazing. Im SSOOO excited they get to share this with Buzzfeed.
At some point I think we are all victims of something regardless of race or sexual orientation. As a teenager I was sitting on a bench with my friend and this group of black guys started walking our way. I reminded myself not to be racist but I had an uneasy feeling nonetheless. I kept my face on my friend (who was talking) and made no eye contact with them. YET, I was punched in the face as they walked by us. They all started laughing and kept walking. So, even though the "in" thing is to make white people look bad, things happen in reverse, too. That is why I just attribute it to humans in general. This is partly why I don't consider myself racist at all. These sort of acts are really about the individual and what is going on in their lives at the time to make them commit an assault, etc. I believe most can be rehabilitated. I am SO happy to watch this video and hear this story. It sort of proves my own theory.
Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you. Nobody deserves to be assaulted and bullied like that. You are very strong and inspirational to have not formed a hatred generalization on a whole ethnicity of people because of a few bad influences. I appreciate that.
its not really racist i mean it KINDA is but its more or less fear because he thought instantly in his mind that if they went after his brother and killed him why not him. Take me for example im scared of bugs and i don't necessarily want to kill them because they deserve life like you and me but i am scared that the might kill me or infect me. I know how it sounds racist but really he is scared for is own life. He isn't just scared of black people but people not like him because he know that if people are like him they also value not just his own life but theirs.
i can understand his fear of blacks i grown up with my mom who dated mostly black men and they all were horrible and even abusive to me and i grow a fear of all men but mostly black males yet i don't hate them or an a racist I was just scared of the ones like "gangsters, woman abuser types" but i grew out of it... just my random two cents
He said he left the racial group and I think he is better but there might still be a fear. He is friends with a gay guy so hopefully he isn't prejudice.
"Change is possible, healing is possible, forgiveness is possible"
I think the whole world needs to hear this right about now

Wow, he must be really, really open minded. I could never see myself becoming friends with someone who tried to kill me.
I've done this, in a different context, but similarly. It's one hundred and ten percent dependent on where that person is in their life now and how aware of the horror they did was. If they're looking for excuses anywhere, nope. But it can happen that people are wholly different than they were.

People who generalize a whole race by one encounter always confuses me..
SJWs that blame a whole race today for what their ancestors did years ago also confuses me.
+NinjaBryden I don't know if you're trying to be sarcastic yes, it's confusing..
To be honest,I would probably have a huge fear of most men if I had been abused by one at 13,which is the same age the man in the video's bother was murdered. Is that not the same concept? Im not justifying his racism, but the mental trauma he suffered at such a young age is worth noting.

+Mayeli Mendoza I can't believe people actually think that way
+TheDorkina I totally agree
Guy on the left came straight out of American History X
Yes maybe 20 years in the future where he let himself go.
This is actually really beautiful. Showing what real tolerance is, and what someone did to try to make amends for their actions
This is awesome the capacity to forgive is the most important thing of the human personality.

Honestly I think this video is great in helping show how great it can be when we are able to accept that people made horrible decisions and that they regret them; taking action to amend for their mistakes as a human being.
I'm trying to figure out why people in the comments are confused. Like, just follow along with the story. They explain everything.
The one in the blue has such nice eyebrows
I too look at people's eyebrows
and the one on the left has no eyebrows LOL
the one with eyebrows has nice eyebrows lol
false-He has eyebrows, but they are light in color. True- he has no hair, as he can't grow any, he has been bald headed for at least 25 years! LOL!
+Timothy Zaal like you have always said " if you can't grow it, mow it."
Possibly the best Buzzfeed Video ever.
Never thought I'd say that... 😂
Um y is this on buzz feed
its a platform for people to share their experiences, give people something real to think about.
^^
There are lots of stuff like this on Buzzfeed and even more on the website. You must be new here
Because buzzfeed is real and it wants to show the world people can change
+John 117 don't forget about the political videos
the guy withe beard seems so guilty
Well he did try to kill the other guy.....
attempted murder does that to a person....
He seems like he's truly feeling bad about the sins he committed.
+Sup? funny. being bald is also associated with being a police officer.
Morgan Roof never heard that one before
I had to pleasure to see this man and hear this story live at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles really moving story !!
"In a whiter brighter world,"? That's racist bud.
Exactly my thoughts
I think he was giving the white supremacists' a reason to why he was leaving. It can be very dangerous to change your values with extremists.
I think he said "wider" Lol
He said "wider" lmao
+McGturtle3 Well then, that's sizist.
Okay, so he was in the KKK but then decided to leave?... I am so confused
no I think it's like a different cult idk
I don't think anyone knows but most likely not KKK and probably Neo Nazi group
i'd say he was a skinhead or some neo-nazi group
he became a skinhead as an adult before leaving
I think it could have been the aryan brotherhood
This is actually incredible wow. It really shows how people can change and that racist, homophobic people can change to accepting people and it's so amazing to see that a man can forgive a man who tried to kill him because of hate. This is incredible and anyone who says otherwise in the comments should think about how many times they were forgiven.

Depends on how long you are.
I admire the gay community. They're not afraid to show their real selves.
+Lil B seriously...
+Lil B chill
A lot of people are still afraid, and there are real fears all over the world of being out, so I hope this helps. I still appreciate your comment though.
I recently found out about this cool thing called a joke. You should read up about them.
Society has placed this burden of forgiveness onto victims as if it releases them from some sort of hell. I don't want to be friends with someone who committed a disgusting act against me. I am an African American but I would never EVER kill or hurt anyone on purpose
That's cool for you I guess?
I don't even like that you posted this. Why do you feel the need to justify yourself? If people think you're inclined to deliberately hurt or kill someone because you're black leave them in their blindness.
You didn't need to say 'but' that makes it sound like the majority would hurt people
and we care because...?
+Ella Blake I care :)
I'm disappointed at some of the people in the comments.
But regardless, this is a fantastic story. :)
It takes so much courage and strength to do what these two have done. Well done.
Some of these comments are so mean and close minded like people change ok😒
that "killer" instinct had to be in him for trying to kill him? People never change, whats to stop him from snapping again?
What about a muderer? Can they earn the trust of the families of the victim, just because they changed?
+Crisco is Fattening In my opinion, yes, they can.

FINALLY. I FINALLY FOUND SOMEONE WHO IS MATURE AND UNDERSTANDING.
Such an amazing video. We don't see often enough good stories in the media, we only see the negative stories.
Man tries to kill me then tries to be my friend
I call the police
I love how the man in the very beginning could state how he felt while being respectful about it
I love this book! If u haven't read their story, please take the time to read it.
Wait you started the story about how a "African American" killed your sibling...how'd we get here???
+Bubbles Yeah I know but typically when having hatred stemming from a certain issue the person typically has mental issues with that "subject"
+Bubbles That's actually not necessarily true. It obviously does happen, but many people have a hatred for races they've barely even interacted with because they're essentially taught to hate other races and see them as inferior.

Imagine this happening to you purely because of your sexual preference...
Imagine this happening because of both.

Stories like these really butter my toast! Great job Buzzfeed!
how did they know he was gay?
The way he spoke most likely
Or way he dresses
He sounds gay duh
he was wering assless chaps
Hateful people hate the stereotype more than the actual people, so they thought he "looked gay"
Oh hello my name is Timothy, I like kicking people and making them forgive me, what's your name?
This is a great story to hear. Thats a genuine story of forgiveness and shows how people change and see how their wrong once was. Everyone makes mistakes in their lives and people grow up and mature, its good to hear a positive story like that. Shows that hatred can be erased in this world.
this was such a nice video
I really thought these 2 were going to end up being gay together but when the guy said he married a woman I was like "goddamn"
Yet Another foiled plot/stereotype
As an inner-city public school teacher, I can't wait to share this with my students in September. Thank you for making and posting this video.
This is so amazingly beautiful
Title is misleading he didn't try to kill him in fact they were sacred that they had killed him
Oh yeah, that's true. It was misleading
Thanks for telling me in advance, now I don't have to waste time
Obviously, it's a hoax. Those two hacks probably met in an acting class a couple of weeks ago. 😉
not really. one of his friends yelled "lets kill this f*ggot!" so he went up to matt and literally kicked him in the head while his friends were kicking and stomping him all over his body. it doesn't matter how he felt after, he still tried to kill him.
ikr i just lost 8 minutes that i will never get back
They're very strong and brave spirited men. Peace, forgiveness and comfort to both and their families. Great story, so amazing & blessed. 💚
there is absolute no way I would be able to forgive Timothy, ever if I was Matthew. I admire him so deeply for being able to do this but I almost have so much anger for him right now. If someone tried to kill me, and kicked me in the head with no regard with the kind of immense pain I would feel, I would absolutely charge them with attempted murder.
-"Remember when you tried to kill me?"
-"Yea, good times...good times.."
Emmacaah get original with ur comments
Don't steal comments bro

OMG OK BEFORE I WATCH THIS IM JUST GONNA SAY :

This was really good to watch! It teaches forgiveness and that people can change! Good job Buzzfeed!
I'm sorry that happened to you Summer. I think you're amazing for dealing with it that way.
Made it to 1:28 before I got bored? What time did you guys make it to?
Watch the whole thing. It's pretty good.
When they got to the point when the guy on the right said something about fear. It was in between 5:30 and 6:30
I made it through most of it
It's adding time they are adding more clips
watched the whole thing lmao
A wonderful story of forgiveness and redemption. BuzzFeed, post more videos like this!
The guy on the left reminds me of Doctor Arden from AHS, anyone else?
yessss! i was just thinking that
Omg yass
All i want to know now is he still racist. if not then thats awesome
Squeaker Studios well he said he feared blacks in general and was clearly in a white supremacist group. So you cant blame me for asking.
Probably not considering he left the supremacist group.
its not really racist i mean it KINDA is but its more or less fear because he thought instantly in his mind that if they went after his brother and killed him why not him.
Beautiful, graceful forgiveness! Peace be with both of them...
Me after I argue w my best friend
Walter White, you can't trick me.
