Good point here! I remember at my last 2 companies (before pandemic) people were complaining that company is growing and there is not enough office space to fit everyone, so the companies started a process to get more space in the buildings and it just finalized. Now they asked people to come back to office and people were like nope, we'd rather leave the company.
I have to say I fully agree with all your points. I've just started my first oficial fully remote position and one of the reasons (if not the main reason) I left my previous position was because my manager at the time insisted on having the team physically present even when she couldn't give us work to fill our 8 working hours (yes we actually asked for tasks to do). In regards to the productivity, I'm currently facing a sort of "impostor syndrome" due to me being home and (despite doing all the tasks given to me) having so much extra free time. I sometimes question myself wondering if I'm doing a good job, if I'm being a good professional. I think here what you said about talking to management about expectations can be of help. The other (similar) point is the motivation. Since I'm at home I'm more easily distracted and don't always do things at once as I would do them in the office, but this is a me problem not a remote work problem 😅 Thank you for the video, I've thoroughly enjoyed it... and now I need to go do some work 🤭
I completely understand where you're coming from because I am having similar experiences working from home. Sometimes I feel guilty on those days that are lighter loads, but at the end of the day as long as we align on expectations of what we need to get done and we do get it done, I think there isn't anything wrong with having some days we can take it easy :) I know working from an office sometimes is great for me, so I try to go once a week! (Home is too comfortable sometimes, isn't it? haha). For me I found mixing it up works well for my motivation. Thanks for watching and for sharing your experience!
I think it will take a couple of years for people to realize what you told me here and settle the market in a new way) Thank you for your video! Do not stop!)
There are studies claiming that pay transparency is better for inclusion and equality but at the same time it tends to drive down salaries on average. So I don't have a specific opinion on that because I don't know what's better.
You covered a lot of the issues better and in a more balanced way than I've seen from a lot of sources. I wish you were right about it being a candidates' market in the future, but I suspect that the employer-employee relationship will always be somewhat exploitative. The best we can do is stay educated through sources like yours, be sure to look out for ourselves, and not drink any of the loyalty Kool Aid that employers try to push on us.
Thanks a lot for your comment and the feedback. I think as you mentioned it’s definitely important to stay educated and know our own worth! As much as we can give to a job, we should choose a job that gives back to us in the way we need. Wishing you a great start to 2023!
