Of all the pool pump cap replacement vids on here, this is the best walk through on how to do this. No extraneous nonsense- just to the point, with all the necessary precautions mentioned to be mindful of. Thank you!

This video may be 3 years old but it's just as valid as the day it was released. I followed this process today and fixed my pool pump with no issues. The pump is about 12 years old but was still running very quietly until yesterday when it wouldn't start and was just humming. Removing the capacitor was a simple task, I took it to the pool shop, they confirmed it was dead and sold me a replacement for AUD $44.00. Five minutes to replace it and job done. Thanks for the clear and simple advice.

You're in Australia i take but your mention of AUD. Can I ask, so you just turn off the mains power before doing this or just unplug the pool pump? I was thinking just to unplug the pump. Do you still have to discharge the capacitor?

@@elwood4965 Hi, yes I’m in Australia. I just switched off the power to the pump, removed 4 screws holding the cover over the capacitor, photographed it in place, removed the capacitor and took it into a pool shop, they tested and confirmed it was faulty, obtained a correct replacement and reinstalled. I haven’t had a problem since. Good luck 🤞

THIS VIDEO SAVED ME $350.00 THANK YOU SO MUCH. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE NEW MOTOR COMES WITH A NEW CAPACITOR, BUT YOU MIGHT THINK YOU THE NEW MOTOR IS MAKING IT WORK, WHEN IN REALITY IT WAS ONLY THE NEW CAPACITOR THAT'S MAKING IT WORK. CHECK THE CAPACITOR ONLY AT FIRST!!!

Agree with all the comments! Another beer for you! This video does get right to the point, which I appreciate! We called several pool companies which either didn’t call us back or wanted $400-600 bucks to “replace” the motor. Our capacitor was just completely dead! We didn’t need a new motor. A $16 fix with a new capacitor from Amazon (which only took one day to ship). Pump is running perfectly! Ty again!!!

FINALLY! AFTER 6 VIDEOS THAT DIDN'T HELP, Here's one that gives me what I need. last video I saw said "make sure you know which leads were on which terminals" but NEVER SHOWED clearly which terminals he pulled which leads off of nor which ones he put which leads back on! THIS ONE: "THERE'S NO POLARITY, IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH POST YOU PUT WHICH WIRE ON"! I'm going to every other video and posting this one in Comments!!!!! That should boost your "views". BUT, "$30-40 part? You must not have a Grangers near you. I got my new capacitor for $8.00! (Maybe his quote for cost was for the customer he's going to charge $10 or $20 bucks extra as a man with two hats: repair and sales. Or like I said, no Grangers nearby .BUT THANK YOU!!!!

I had a brand new pump that sat around for three years before I installed it. It hummed and wouldn't run on first start. Turns out all I had to do was spin the motor shaft to loosen it up. It just got stuck sitting unused. The bearings and everything else were fine, it's still running now, two plus years later. However this would not be the main reason for a motor to hum and not run. But it is a reason that's easy to check!

My only question is I have 3 connectors that connect to the capacitor. If I get a new capacitor does it matter where those pins gets connected? Or can they connect anywhere? Only asking cos the one that is currently in it is very hard to source so need to get a different brand

Good i thought, i found the problem. But after 4 days the new capacitor just blowed up. Could it be a bad copy or could it be something else going on with the pump?

Hi there, mate,I have a balboa control unit, And the flow was not working as strong as it should. I thought it was the pump, The jet button when pressing started to stop working and just become to have a mind of its own. I notice once the pump started without pressing any button and once just stopped also. So because I was not getting much flow, first bought a new impellor, because the other one was destroyed. Did not solve the problem, still low flow. Now I have installed a new pump, And the same problem. So there was nothing wrong with the original pump. Now I installed the new pump today, normally it goes on PR for about 7 minutes then it all starts up normally. So when I put the breakers on, the pump was running on low speed, Straight away, that was strange, never done that before when PR is starting up the on process but is a new pump. The jet button stopped working again with a clicking sound coming from the Balboa control box. Could this just be a fuse problem, possibly. or a relay ,what does a relay look like ? I am dumbfounded here. So now it is not the pump or capacitor, all new so , ruled out. The heating element is all fine and working, all checked there.I have a video ,if you were interested to look at. No errors on the display panel either .
