    Ibn Battuta was a famous African traveler who hailed from the country of Morocco in Africa. Ibn Battuta came to India in the 14th century. Ibn Battuta was a poet, historian and scholar of high order. Ibn Battuta is known as Sheikh Shamsuddin from the eastern countries. Ibn Battuta's real name was Abu Abdullah Muhammad. Ibn Battuta was the name of his clan and this name is famous in Indian history. Ibn Battuta is also known as Maulana Badruddin in India. Ibn Battuta was born on 24 February 1304 in the city of Tangier in Morocco and died in the city of Marrakesh, Morocco in 1369 {according to Rehla 1377-78}. Ibn Battuta's tomb is in the city of Tangier, Morocco. Ibn Battuta's father's name was Mohammed bin Ibrahim. Ibn Battuta's ancestors used to work as Qazi. Ibn Battuta was a person of religious nature, that is why at the age of 21-22, he left his parents weeping and went on a journey to Mecca and Medina alone on 14 June 1325.
