    Indie kids weren’t trying to be different. The JMs and the Jags and the Mustangs were so darn cheap during the 80s and early 90s so those were the ones the Indie kids could afford. And then they found out that the offsets were so comfy, playable and sounds different than the super strats and teles and but also sounded great too so they just stuck with it.

      A soft case for a guitar that you pay over $1500 for is pathetic. Just because Gibson does it, it doesn't mean it's right. Do better.

    • @OceanG805
      @OceanG805 2 місяці тому +2

      @chrishepbrun1503 It’s not just Gibson, it’s Ibanez and Kiesel and others like that…nothing wrong with it! It’s just what the price calls for these days, plus, it’s not hard to just get a case that fits, no need to knock a guitar brand (A very good one too) for what plenty of others are doing.

    • @chrishepburn1503
      @chrishepburn1503 2 місяці тому +2

      @fezy_sg1663 I named Gibson because they were the first to do it, plus I don't have the effort to name the other ones. They are wrong as well. Sure, you can get one, but that's not the point. Paying over $1500 dollars should pay for a hard case. I can still remember that in 2016, I bought a Gibson SG Standard. It came with a soft case, and I was so disappointed. I thought this better not be the trend, and it sadly was. Just because other brands do it doesn't make it right. Two wrongs don't make a right. Someone has to make a conscious effort to be better than the next guy.

    60s/70s jazzmasters and jaguars were like $200 in the 80s until nirvana blew up. the reason why there are associations with “wanting to be different” is because these musicians tended to be more working class and self-taught than people who could afford a strat, tele or les paul.

    One of my favorite guitars is an HH Jazzmaster I picked up at Chicago Music Exchange and pimped out. Body shape is very comfortable and I love the neck I have on mine. Highly recommend the Mastery Tremolo (bridge too if you're money bags status) but I barely ever used the trem until I upgraded. Now, I play everything I used to save for my Strats on a Jazzmaster. Subsequently, I have been exploring all the offset options for things I might not have given a chance before. Baum is doing a lot of thing right on these.

    Always associated Jazzmasters with surf music., Really love Bambi Molesters and their sound but Larkin Poe is what did it for me as far as wanting one. Picked up a Squire Classic Vibe, and fell in love with it. Now I have added a G&L fullerton deluxe Doheny, a Tonebakery with firebird pickups and a Jazzmaster acoustasonic from IYV. Working on a Jazzmaster build with Trisonic pickups. Even a Firebird which is technically an offset. I'm hooked on the offset body guitars now.

      @@theemrsgReverend Guitars has their own take on PTB, using a 500kΩ volume pot and a different bass capacitor.
      The electric guitar industry is so dominated by marketing trends that it is pretty easy to name a combination of a few features which cannot be found on any production guitar at any price (judging by Sweetwater, Chicago Music Exchange, Guitar Center, Andertons, Thomann, and smaller independent stores). For instance, the upcoming Chapman Guitars Pegasus is the first time I have seen a production guitar with these five features: 24.75" scale length, 1.650" nut width, two humbuckers, blade selector switch, and a flat hardtail bridge to facilitate a flat neck pitch (as opposed to a Tune-O-Matic or tall wraparound such that the neck is angled). Schecter offers that with a longer scale length (e.g. Omen Elite-6), and Ibanez adds a wider nut to the same longer scale length (e.g. RG421).

    Lynard Skynards guitar player used a Fiver bird 5 for many many years. I think it's what recorded sweet home Alabama and Gimme Three Steps and many more

    Dude fender starcaster! It’s literally like someone combined my three favorite guitars into one. Jazzmaster, Epiphone Casino, and Tele Deluxe!

    My first guitar was a Peavey Predator (when they were still American made), but I was a big fan of bands like Sonic Youth. So my stepdad surprised me with a MIJ (CIJ? Can’t remember and it’s in another room right now) and it’s still one of my favorites. Enjoy digging into things like Sonic Youth and shoegaze, lots of cool sounds out there.

    It is true it is true I bought a jaguar CV because I didn’t wanted to look all standard with a start
    I gotta tell you I tried it and I just was craving the strat tone, but at the end I really started ti appreciate the tone of the jaguar it is messy and you have to fight with the eq but it kind a grows in you no pun intended

    I've been a Fender player since the 90's starting with Stratocaster (check reverb for counts on 90's Strats vs. all other models). Moved on to Telecasters in the 00's, and picked up an offset in 10's. For me, the win for the offset is the tremolo and part of why I always go back to my Jazzmaster and Jaguars. That's a pretty-looking guitar, but the Bigsby feel is too stiff for me

    Certain things call to you, from when I first picked up bass I always visioned owning a Jazz in my head until I got one (which has been my main bass for 30+ years)

    You always do such a great job on your vids. Why not a Fender? Anyway, I saw Chris Stapleton killing it on his ‘62 reissue Jazzmaster (that I mistook for a Jaguar) and went and bought myself a Squire Jaguar bass I needed for my home studio. I was pleasantly surprised! I didn’t like those shapes at all like you, but I have come around after 50+ years of guitars…lol. Thanks for this review!

    I recommend you check out the G&L Doheny. They're pretty nice and their vibrato is so much better. Puresalem has some kino offsets. If you want fit and finish to on point without custom shop prices you should import a Made in japan jazzmaster or jaguar or maybe even a mustang. Construction is unparalleled, however, their pickups are voiced for speakers and amps from Japan, so it leaves something to be desired so a pickup swap maybe neccesary. The mij jazzmasters simply don't sound like jazzmasters. They're wired more like a p-90 like a J Mascis jazzmaster. I got a jag with block inlays which is gorgeous and those pickups it came with are good enough I guess.

    I like offset guitars, but I am a strat cat and always wil be. Now, I tend to prefer humbuckers in the bridge, and sometimes a double bucker, or HSH or HSS configueration, but if it comes down to a guitar with the right confugeration and a SSS strat, I'll take the strat. Because it's just the perfect form factor. I love the feel of a strat, the spank of a strat, everything. So much so that I will work around the faults of a particular strat if the otpion comes down to a strat and any other guitar.
