glad to have found this. my siblings and I have been getting increasingly curious of our family history and it's quite annoying how far I alone have had to dig, so I'm learning how to intelligently interview people, specifically family, to make sure questions can be answered for those who may never see my parents, grandma, or god forbid something happen, my siblings or I. edit: forgot to mention, aside from questions to ask, I plan to record video + audio, separately record audio as a corruption contingency, then digitally transcribe and print it into 10 copies. I know computers pretty well and have no faith in the lifespan of data.
Don't wait until after Covid. You can record a lot of interviews over the phone with them right now. Get the ball rolling so that when you meet in person you can go deeper into some favorite memories
Very informative, I appreciate the time you have taken in sharing your knowledge to all of us. Much appreciated - Regards - Balaji - Sydney - Australia
Suppose there are questions they don't want to answer, such as "What was originally our surname?" I guess I could start it with "It wasn't unusual for families in the Near and Middle East to change their surnames. What was the family's surname originally?"
You can reframe it or come back to it. Sometimes you have to work with a relatives to develop that relationship of trust. There are some cultures that hide details because they are trying to protect their descendants. Give them time and build their trust.
@@FamilyHistoryFanatics If you read Children of Bethany, the author of the book discusses where his family got the name Aburish, which, translated into English, means "downy one."
Okay I do speak to my dad about how things happened in the past or what certain people did. He has told me military stories because we share the bond of both being veterans, he has told me stories of his family, jobs that he had or his parents and grandparents had, and many, many stories about him and my mom. I had no idea what my parents did on their first date, a blind date, and he told me so many details which often times men, and some women, don't remember!!!
All of your relatives? I have a friend who was badly abused by many in her family. However, there were some distant aunts whom they adored and they 'skipped' the close relatives and worked with the distant ones. I have some of my father's 1st cousins and a 3rd cousin who I love talking with about our common ancestors. Would that help?
You guys put out a lot of content but the quality level just is not there. I've watched for weeks and still not learned anything. So much nonsense. Your titles make big claims but then you stammer for 20 minutes without saying much.
This is great, thank you!!
My pleasure.

Thanks for sharing your plans. I hope they help others you need to interview their family members.
I’m lucky enough to have all four of my grandparents still here and plan to do interviews with each grandparent after Covid

Thank you for the video! I will do my first interview this weekend. A lot of useful things!
Thank you from Kazakhstan!
Best of luck with your interview! 😊🍀
Best of luck. Come back and tell me how it goes. Preserving the history of Kazakhstan will be so invaluable for the future.
Very informative and great tips! Packing a punch, thanks Devin🙂✍
Glad it was helpful!

@@FamilyHistoryFanatics That's a good point. 🤔😊

Cool. Thanks for sharing that cool tidbit.
But I hate my relatives! I prefer the dead ones!!! They aren't mean like my living ones!!!!

Glad to here that you were able to talk to your dad. Treasure that.
I can relate to that to some extent.
Goof stuff.
Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it.

Then I recommend you check out the other genealogy UA-camrs. We are not your people.
Disappointing! ...... For a free option that you DON'T like, why waste your time. Your comments simply discredit themselves.
