Super duper reference vid! One thing I add is hold your custom buttons down, two on the front by the lens, and set them to your favorite settings! (I like the Stabilization shortcuts)
+1 on updating firmware. I was using factory 1.0 firmware and the camera bricked a brand new SanDisk V90 128gb SD card within 10 minutes of use when filming a test video. The card was destroyed no recovery. I've since updated the camera and am using a Sony SD card in the mean time without issue so far. Still don't know if it was the camera or card. I did read others having issues with that exact SanDisk card.
Very Informative - thanks! Have not tried the Open Gate yet (next on my list). The video quality of this camera is exceptional, even at the lower 200 Mb/s bit rate. Having the scopes available in real time is a great feature!🤜
Excelente ayuda. En unos días me llega la Lumix G9II y esto me va a simplificar mucho la exploración pese a que tengo una GH5 que es un cañon y sus menús son bastante parecidos. Muchas gracias
Hi Caleb, thanks for all the extra help with the settings , I noticed you have a dji mic 2 in you cameras hotshoe, I recently bought the dji pocket 3 creator kit which came with the mic 2 and was wondering if I can wirelessly via bluetooth connect it to my G9ii, I also own the Rode wireless Go mics which I know I can connect the receiver via a cable with my camera but if it's possible to just connect wirelessly with the dji mic2 it's just one less step to great audio, if you have any tips on that I would be very grateful, cheers Jim in Liverpool across the pond
Hi. Can you tell me where in the G9ii settings I can enable focus lock by tap on the display in manual mode? In gh5 I could just tap on the display to lock focus.
the g9ii has a lower iso dr boost. however, i try try try to keep it at iso500 if possible. i was not a fan of the dr boost on the gh6 and makes me not want to use it on the g9ii haha
Another feature that I have on my G9m2 is to have one of the camera buttons, on the front of the body beside the lens, set to toggle on and off the Waveform. I can compose the shot, toggle on the waveform, get the exposure and then toggle off the Waveform instantly and never take my eye off the shot.
Hi Caleb, I am hoping you will be able to answer this as I can't find the answer anywhere. I can't get the touch to focus working on the G9 II, I have the G9 and you can drag the focus box around when in manual mode and when you let go it focuses and go back to the main screen. On the G9 II it won't do this, I can move the box around but I then have to hit the AF box on the screen to get it to focus. I loved this featured on the G9 and it was a one touch thing. I am hoping it's just a setting I haven't got turned on but I can't find it anywhere!
I just recorded some test footage in VLOG vs natural. correct exposed, underexposed etc. VLOG looks much (!) noisier even at base ISO500. What am I doing wrong? NR is currently set to minimum. What is your setting there?
Hey Caleb! Since you're creating great content on Panasonic FF and M43 I would love to see a new video comparing the tech concepts such as DoF, Angle of view, speed and low light performances. I know you covered it in the past, but with new G9 and S5 it would be amazing. Recently I saw an article in Medium stating that cropped sensors are better in Low light when you consider DoF and I'm crazy to hold one S5 and compare it with my GH6 in a more tech test. Big fan of your job, please consider make something about this
My biggest doubt is: If I shoot a video on the M43 25mm with f stop at 2.8 I would have the same amount of light of shooting on a S5 50mm f2.8 (same iso) and the only difference would be the DoF? Or I would have a darker image on the G9/Gh6?
thanks for the recommendation! usually mft has less depth of field depending on the lens because similar to the focal length you basically double the f-stop. so a 2.8 on a mft is like shooting at a 5.6 🤷♂️
I used mft (different Olympus cameras for almost 15 years). I have not read the article, however, i get what you probably mean. The depth of field is less shallow according to the crop factor. So, let's say, you stop your Olympus 17mm 1.2 Pro lens down to f2. The Look it will produce is similar/the same as a 34mm lens at f4. So, if you need to have more things in focus, because, let's say you're taking a photo/video of 2 people at the same time and they are not aligned exactly on the same focal plane, a mft camera and lens at f2 will produce a f4 look. However, it is true, that the f2 of the lens stays an f2 as for real light transmission. Let's say your settings om mft are 1/50/s f2 ISO100. To get the same look on full frame, you'd need to set the cam to f4 and either change the shutter speed to 1/25 or the ISO to 200 to get the same look of the final Image. Bigger sensors in general will still have an edge when it comes to low light, but this makes the difference a little bit less than you'd normally expect. I only own full frame cameras now as I bought too much into the hype and will eventually sell one of these to "downgrade" to a GH6 or BGH1.
@@Fotomensch Thanks a lot. That was the main point for me. Most of my job are documentaries, so mft is ideal for me, because I need the light that, for exemple, a f1.4 lens will give me, but at the same time have more things in focus than a FF f1.4 would give me. But I have never hold two similar cameras/lens to compare. So thank you for the information, it will help me a lot!
I have the G9M2 now and I have a question: I do not have audio when I shot in mov files. What could be the problem? Is it something with settings in my PC. Windows 11
@@CalebHoover I do have a lot of Lumix cameras, but this one is fantastic. I can find the frame rate option in the G9 but not in the mark 2 version. Am I missing something?
I was told by support that the camera will always output 4 audio channels not just one like on my GH5. So I have to either ignore or delete the extra audio tracks in post editing. Any comments?
Why always cinematic settings. I get more pleasing and crystal clear videos with 6k 60p and using aperture priority. Shutter speed can be whatever. I dont like soft motion, i want to see what is in video even if there is movement. Using nd filters hurts iq and are difgicult to use.
Some people like natural motion blur sometimes higher shutter speeds produce images that look way too artificially digital I personally don't like it at all but do what you want and what you like these are just recommendations to get a natural looking image.
Now that's what I'm talking about. I love the gh6 and g9ii videos! Keep em coming.
such great cams!!

Awesome video, how do we set our g9 ii for anamorphic shooting.

hate to hear that. i know there were some sandisk cards that were glitching out this past winter so maybe the card?
I think i shoud update too. My gh6 freezes even with Panasonic approved cfexpess card if i shoo 6k 60p and move camera rapidly.

absolutely! this camera is stellar especially with all those features.
I've just bought the g9ii and the autofocus works just with the 25 mm lens, not with zoom lenses. Do you have any clue?
thx from Switzerland, i love your Videos! Greetings, Eric
Thanks for watching!

For me very important:
Increase the number of C3 custom profiles to 10.
Switch the settings for stills and video to "not combined".
love this! I know I didn't get too much into customization but huge for sure
Color looks clean on this video! What Lut was the A Cam?
haha yeah? my UA-cam Punch LUT (download in the scrippy) with the Nicest709 convert LUT pure 🔥
1080p all-intra 🤔 enough for social media?

haha you know it!
Open gate is my primary shooting mode these days. Hoping the GH7 can do open gate 10-bit 5.8K 60p or even 120p
Is it possible to have 2xTele in video mode like on gh5/6? On settings it appear to be grayed, can you help on that? Thx!

Would be nice if something like Time Code would just be displayed in video mode, doesn't make sense in photo mode (a/s/m/p)
I like Zebra over wave its way easier to just see what is over exposed and choose what you don't care about being blown out.
This video is so so dark my my macbook pro m3 calibrated screen. Just saying. Can barely see the screen on your camera settings.
strange. it's fine on my macbook
